The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you—paddling out around here is gonna be a tough gig for a while. The whole 16-day window looks pretty bleak, with barely a ripple to get excited about. The Bunker - Playa-Honda is a sheltered reef set-up, but the numbers we’ve got are pretty much all zeros for wave height after that first little blip.
The only time you’ll see anything remotely rideable is Friday morning, August 7th. We’ve got a weak little NE swell pushing in at about 5ft, but with a short period of just 7 seconds, it’s not going to have much punch. The combined energy is a weak 199, so it’s not exactly gonna be grunty. Winds are a brisk 16 mph from the north, which is cross-offshore—so the surface won't be blown out, but it’s not the perfect offshore we dream of. That little bump is from the NE, but the break does best with an ENE direction, so it’s a bit off-angle. Water’s sitting at 74°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so that’s a nice little bonus if you do go for a splash.
After that Friday morning, the forecast goes completely flat. From Friday afternoon all the way through to Saturday, August 22nd, there’s practically nothing—a few tiny 0.3ft pulses from the south with long periods (13 to 14 seconds) but no energy behind them. Those are barely gonna show, and they won't make for a proper wave. Expect a massive 13-day stretch of flat, calm water. Honestly, this spot is already inconsistent, and this run of nothing is pretty normal for it when the swell windows close up.
For a sheltered reef like this, you really need something bigger and longer-period to wrap in properly, but we just don’t have it. The setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer wanting flat water than for anyone on a paddle board.
Stay patient, keep your eye on the charts—it won't stay this quiet forever.
Rusty.
