Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about Thaila. It’s a reef break, and right now it’s looking like a pretty frustrating stretch for us.
Right from the start on July 6th, the forecast isn't great. We’ve got some long-period groundswell from the SSW – a solid 16 seconds – but every session is rated poor or marginal. The wind is mostly cross-onshore, which is just going to mess things up. The first Monday morning does have an offshore wind and combined swell energy of 431 (moderate), but the data says the tide is going to be a problem, so don't get your hopes up.
We’re in for a dry spell here. From July 6th right through until July 19th, the conditions are consistently poor. The wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore, keeping the surf choppy and sloppy. There aren't really any standouts in that period. The closer you get to July 15th, the smaller the swell gets, dropping to just 1 ft, which for a reef like this is a real problem.
Now, let’s look at a couple of small windows. On the morning of July 16th, we get a small 1 ft SW swell with a period of 16 seconds, but the wind turns glassy. That’s the only time we see the word “glassy” in the whole forecast. The wave energy is weak at 166 (combined swell energy). It’s surfable, but ordinary.
The best hope is July 20th and 21st – that’s our last week. Swell picks up to 4 ft and then 5 ft from the S, with a period of 14 seconds (moderate energy in the 800s). The wind from the 20th is light cross-onshore, and by the morning of the 21st it finally turns onshore. At 5 ft, it’s pushing the limits for beginners here, but for the more experienced, it’s the biggest and most energetic we’ve seen. It’s still only rated as marginal, so the tide could be a factor again.
No real gems in this outlook, folks. The morning of the 16th gives a brief taste of clean, glassy conditions on a tiny swell, and the 20th-21st should bring the most size and energy, but don’t expect perfection. We'll keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
