Alright, Rusty here again. Got to level with you – this next couple of weeks is a grim outlook.
Overall, we’re looking at a long stretch of small, messy surf. The pattern’s locked in, with a stubborn cross-onshore wind messing up whatever weak swell we have. Most sessions are gonna be choppy, and the waves are just too gutless.
We kick off on Friday, July 3rd, with tiny 3ft swell out of the SSW with a long 16-second period. The combined energy is weak (316), and a west wind has it all blown out. It’s just poor.
That sets the standard for the next week and a half. There’ll be small waves, but the wind stays cross-onshore. A few mornings, like Monday the 6th, we get a light onshore breeze, but the swell is still only 3ft with weak energy (486). It’s marginal, and the small wind ripples from that cross-onshore wind will ruin any clean face. You’d be scratching for anything.
The most interesting little pulse comes around Tuesday, July 7th. The swell nudges up to 3ft from the SSW with a very long 18-second period, and the energy climbs to moderate (723). The morning still has a tricky onshore wind, but it's light. This is true groundswell, so those long-period lines will work best on a reef break like this one – but with onshore wind, it’ll still be a fight. Don’t kid yourself.
From there, it’s back downhill. The swell dribbles away through the second week, down to a pathetic 1ft by the 15th. The wind does go light and onshore occasionally, but the wave energy is so weak (as low as 124) it’s barely a bump. There’s a little tickle on Saturday, July 18th, with a 2ft SSW swell and a period back up to 18 seconds, but the energy is only moderate (322) and that cross-onshore wind kills it.
The best of a bad lot is Tuesday, July 7th morning. That 3ft SSE swell is the biggest we’ll see, and the energy is moderate. It still won’t be a classic session, but it’s the closest you’ll get to a wave you can actually ride. The long period might give a clean, peeling line if you can find a spot out of the bump.
Otherwise, it’s a long, dry run. Consistent surf? Not really. This area is in a proper lull, and a run this quiet is pretty normal for here. Don’t toss your board in the shed just yet – forecasts can change.
