Table - best surf conditions forecast for Te Ikaamaru Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. Te Ikaamaru Bay is a beginner-friendly spot, fairly exposed to the swell and it likes the swell from the NW. The water’s sitting at a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, about 57°, so it’s a bit more comfortable than usual.
Right now, there’s nothing going on. The start of the outlook is a bit of a bummer, with zero surf on offer for the first few days. Thursday and Friday are blown out by strong southerly winds, and the swell is essentially non-existent. Saturday and Sunday morning look glassy and clean, but there’s just no wave energy to speak of – the combined energy is sitting at 0 (0). It’s flat as a pancake.
Monday the 13th sees a weak little pulse start to show, with a 3ft swell from the north and a short period. The wind is onshore and lumpy, so it’s not really doing us any favours. The combined energy is a weak 40. Not worth paddling out for.
Tuesday the 14th is where things get a bit more interesting with the swell picking up to 6ft from the north, and the combined energy jumps to 257 (moderate). But the wind is fresh onshore, so it’s going to be messy. That said, for a beginner spot, if you’re desperate, there might be some lumpy ones. Wednesday the 15th drops off again quickly, with the swell fading and the onshore wind sticking around.
Now, the real standout in this outlook is very late in the window. Sunday the 19th of July, we get a nice long-period groundswell from the NNW, pushing 3ft to 4ft in the afternoon. The combined energy is strong at 321 in the morning and 469 in the afternoon. That’s the most energy we see all outlook. The problem is the wind is cross-onshore, so it’s going to be a bit choppy. But for a fairly exposed spot like Te Ikaamaru Bay, this is the best on offer. The next day, Monday the 20th, still has some decent energy around 186, but the wind stays cross-onshore. The rest of the outlook after that fades away into small, mostly clean but tiny surf.
Overall, it’s a tough run for Te Ikaamaru Bay. The best bet is to keep an eye on that Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th for the biggest swell, but don’t expect perfect conditions. For the first week and a half, you’re better off doing something else.
