Table - best surf conditions forecast for Te Ikaamaru Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Te Ikaamaru Bay over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with ya – it's a tough stretch. We're lookin' at a whole lot of nothin' for the first week and a half. From now through Saturday the 19th of July, it's pretty much a write-off. The water's a touch warmer than normal for this time of year at 57°, which is a nice little bonus if you're just floating around, but the waves are just not playin' ball. There's a tease of some energy on Monday the 13th with a swell pushin' 4 ft from the N, but it's a short-period windswell of just 5 seconds, and the wind is howlin' onshore at 25 mph. That's messy, blown-out, no good for a paddle. You might see a few kite surfers out there having a crack, though.
We finally get a pulse of something worth a look on Sunday the 19th. It's not huge, but it's a glimmer of hope. On Sunday morning, we get a clean 3 ft swell from the NNW, with a proper 10-second groundswell period. The wind is light offshore from the SSE at 9 mph, and that's a beautiful thing for this spot. The wave energy is moderate, sittin' at 118 (moderate wave energy). For Te Ikaamaru Bay, a break that's fairly exposed to the NW and works best with an offshore from the SSE, this is the moment where it could clean up and offer a few tidy little rights. It's a beginner-friendly spot and fairly consistent, so if you're keen to get wet, this is your window. The only bummer is the crowd factor here can be a bit of a pain sometimes, so get in early.
Monday the 20th holds a similar vibe. Another morning with an offshore from the SSE at 16 mph and a 3 ft groundswell, this time with an even longer period of 11 seconds. The energy bumps up to 145 (moderate wave energy). That longer period will give the waves a bit more shape and punch, but for a beach setup like this, it can make 'em a little straight. Still, clean and rideable.
After that, the swell fades and we're back to flat, clean conditions from the 21st right through to the end of the forecast. The winds stay light, but without any swell, there's just nothin' to ride. It's a blank run, but for this area, that's not unheard of. Don't lose hope – forecasts can change, and it won't stay dead forever.
So, to wrap it up: the standout in this whole forecast is Sunday morning, July 19th at Te Ikaamaru Bay. Clean offshore winds, a little bit of groundswell energy, and your best chance at a few fun waves. Monday the 20th morning is a close second if you want a bit more period.
Rusty.
