Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here.
Right, so lookin’ at this forecast for Tairua Beach, it’s a bit of a mixed bag over the next 16 days. We’ve got a few windows of clean surf, but nothing that’s gonna have you sprintin’ for the car. The water’s sittin’ at about 60°F, which is bang on average for this time of year – no surprises there.
The first real chance to wet a line comes Tuesday the 7th, but honestly, it’s a write-off. We’ve got onshore wind and a rumble of thunder, with a messy 6ft swell from the NNE – just not worth it. Wednesday the 8th is where it starts to get interesting. The morning brings a clean 5ft NNE swell with a cross-off breeze, and energy is moderate at 555. Then Wednesday afternoon is the real standout of the first week – glassin’ out with 4ft of clean E swell, period at 10 seconds, and a light SW offshore. That’s your best bet for the first few days. Low energy at 456, but the conditions will make it feel better than it looks on paper.
Thursday the 9th morning holds a small 3ft E swell with clean offshore wind (235 energy), but the wind picks up hard in the arvo – 15 mph cross-off – so get your session in early. Friday the 10th is blown out by strong cross-off winds all day, even if it’s clean. Saturday the 11th afternoon is a nice little window with a 3ft ESE swell, light cross-off breeze, and moderate energy at 317. That’s another good one.
Then we hit a dry spell from Sunday the 12th onward. The swell drops right off, dips below 2ft, and the wind goes onshore or cross-shore for days. Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th see some tiny, short-period junk – not worth paddlin’ out for.
There’s a flicker of hope on Thursday the 16th, with a 4ft NNW swell pushin’ in (energy 303), but the period is only 7 seconds and the wind is cross-off, so it’ll be lumpy. After that, from the 17th right through to the 22nd, it’s tiny, weak, and mostly blown out or flat. The best of that second week is probably Tuesday the 21st afternoon, with 2ft of E swell and glassy conditions (91 energy) – perfect for a longboard if you’re desperate, but honestly, it’s small.
So, for the true standout: Wednesday 8th afternoon is your pick – clean lines, offshore wind, and a solid 4ft wave. Round two is Saturday 11th afternoon, with that clean ESE swell. Tairua Beach is a beginner-friendly spot, and with the crowds listed as “sometimes”, you’ll likely have company on those clean days. Don’t expect much in the second week – it’s mostly a waiting game.
Rusty.
