Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tairua Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here with the lowdown for Tairua Beach.
I’ll level with you: the next week and a half looks flat and grim. From Saturday the 12th all the way through to Sunday the 19th, it’s a total dead zone – tiny, onshore, and weak. Don't even think about paddling out until the next week.
Here’s the real spark. There’s a solid pulse of energy building, and it all comes together on Monday the 20th. That’s the one to circle. The morning brings an 8ft groundswell out of the ENE, with combined wave energy punching up to 1240 – that’s strong. The wind is light and cross-off from the SSE, so the face will be clean. This one’s for the experienced crew only; it’s a powerful, meaty swell. And the afternoon gets even better. The wind goes glassy, the swell holds at 8ft, and the energy jumps to 1499. Expect excellent, clean conditions for the surfers who know what they’re doing. The swell direction (ENE) matches the optimum for Tairua Beach, and that light cross-off breeze is going to groom it nicely.
Water temp is around 60°F, which is pretty standard for this time of year, so a spring suit is the call.
After that peak, it gets messy again from the 21st as the wind swings onshore and the quality nosedives. There's a couple days at the tail end, the 24th and 25th, with clean offshore wind from the SW, but the swell is tiny – knee to thigh high, so it’s a long paddle for very little reward.
The only real window here is Sunday the 19th afternoon through the 20th. The 20th is the standout. If you can get on it, do it. After that, it’s back to waiting.
Rusty.
