Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s in store for Tairua Beach.
The water’s sitting at about 61°, right on the money for this time of year – nothing out of the ordinary.
The absolute standout is Friday morning, July 3rd. Tairua Beach has a clean 5ft easterly swell, glassy conditions with just a light southerly breeze out of the south. The period is a solid 11 seconds, packing some decent energy (combined energy of 434). This is the one to point your car at – perfect for beginners with those forgiving waves and pristine conditions. It can get a few people around sometimes, but this session will be worth it.
Saturday morning the 4th still shows 5ft from the east with a long 12-second period, but the wind’s swung onshore and there’s rain about – the tide might mess with it too. Saturday afternoon is a lost cause with 20 km/h northerlies and showers turning it to chop.
Sunday morning the 5th is a nice little rebound: 3ft easterly swell, glassy again, 10-second period and 292 combined energy. Clean and fun for a paddle.
Monday the 6th brings a 5ft northerly pulse, but it’s short-period (7 seconds) and a bit wind-affected. Not a disaster, just average.
Then from the 7th through the 11th, we hit a flat spell. Swells drop below 3ft, energy tanks, and the wind’s messy. There’s a solid few days with nothing worth chasing – just small, weak dribble.
Wednesday the 15th (a week and a half out) sees a 6ft north-easterly swell, but it’s short-period (6 seconds) and gets smashed by strong cross-onshore winds. That one’s better for the kiteboarders than paddle surfers.
The long-range nugget is Saturday the 18th. Tairua Beach gets a clean 5ft to 6ft east-northeasterly swell with moderate offshore southwesterly winds. Combined energy is 268 to 321 – not massive, but clean and punchy. It’s a Saturday, so expect a few heads in the water, but the waves will be worth it. Keep it on the radar.
Bottom line: hammer Friday morning July 3rd for the best of the lot. The rest of the fortnight has some flickers, but that glassy east swell is your winner.
Rusty.
