The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it.
The next couple of weeks are going to be a real test of patience around here. The surf is going to be quiet for a long stretch, and honestly, for the first week or so, there's barely anything rideable. You're looking at a solid stretch of days where the ocean is just flat and sleepy. The swell is tiny, the energy is weak, and you'd be fighting for a wave that just isn't there. It’s not going to be worth paddling out for a while.
The only spot on the radar is Blowhole, a point break that’s fairly consistent but needs the right direction. The water temp is sitting at 57°, which is pretty much what you'd expect for this time of year, so nothing weird there.
Now, looking at the first real chance of anything, we have to fast-forward to the 10th of August. But even then, it’s a mess. The swell kicks up to 7ft from the north, but the wind is howling onshore at 16 mph, making it choppy and poor. You'd be better off watching from the beach. The energy is moderate, but the conditions are just ugly. That day is a write-off for surfing.
The 11th and 12th settle down a bit, but the swell is short-period and junky. By the 12th morning, it's glassy with small 4ft waves, but they're just not coming together. It's surfable, but it's ordinary. You’d be groveling for sure.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on the 14th of August. It’s a Friday morning, and Blowhole is looking at 5ft of NE swell with a light offshore WSW wind and glassy conditions. The energy is building, and it’s clean. This is the standout of the whole run. The swell direction is right, the wind is right, and it’s going to be a proper point break session. It’s not huge, but it’ll be clean and fun. This is the one to circle on the calendar.
After that, the surf backs off again. The week after is a slow grind of small waves, mostly under 3ft, with the occasional clean but tiny day. The 20th sees a bit more size with 6ft from the ENE, but the period is short and it’s a bit of a gamble. The morning is glassy, which could be okay, but it’s not the same quality as that Friday.
So, in short: the first week is a no-go. The window around the 14th is your best bet – a clean, small-to-medium point break session. The long-range stuff is promising but less certain. Don't get too excited about the rest of it.
