The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here with the lowdown on Surf Beach for the next couple of weeks.

The first few days are a bit slow, with nothing much to write home about. It’s not until Friday, August 7th that things start to get interesting. Friday morning we’ve got a clean 4ft SW groundswell, with a 15-second period pushing some decent energy through the water. The wind is a cross-off from the WNW. But the real gem is Friday afternoon: the swell stays at 4ft from the SW, the period is still a solid 15 seconds, the energy is strong, and the wind goes glassy – dead calm from the ENE. That’s the session to aim for, with clean lines and not too much crowd hassle.

Saturday the 8th still has a good 4ft SW swell with strong offshore winds, but it’s not quite as clean as Friday.

Heads up for Monday the 10th: the swell jumps to a massive 12ft from the SW, with a 19-second period and incredibly strong energy. That’s way too big for this break, so it’s expert-only, if anyone’s game.

The second week is more mixed. Waves are generally between 4ft and 7ft from the SW, but the wind is often cross or cross-off, making for some lumpy conditions. The best of that week looks like Saturday the 15th: a clean 6ft SW swell with a cross-off breeze and solid energy. That’s a good, solid session for experienced surfers.

So, lock in Friday the 7th afternoon. The water's about average for this time of year, so you’ll be comfortable in a spring suit.

Rusty.
