The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a hard look at what’s coming up for the next couple of weeks. I’ve got to be straight with you: right now, there’s a big, fat zero on the swell charts. The first surf recommendation doesn’t even show up—the whole 16-day window is a write-off for any actual waves. We’re looking at a blank run, and it’s pretty typical for this area when the lake just doesn’t deliver.

St Catharines is the only spot we’ve got to talk about, and it’s a beach/pier setup. The water temp is sitting at a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, about 74°. That’s a nice little anomaly—feels good on a flat day. But for surf? There’s no combined swell energy to speak of (0). The forecast tosses out some clean, glassy mornings and offshore winds on a few days, like Sunday 16 August morning with zero wind and glassy conditions, or Tuesday 18 August afternoon with glassy calm. Even some moderate offshores pop toward the end of the month, like Wednesday 27 August afternoon with a 19 mph offshore breeze. But without a single inch of swell, it’s all just pretty-looking flat water.

The outlook from start to finish is a long gap of no recommendations. Every single row says “poor surf conditions” with no wave height, no period, no energy. So, keep the boards in the car, my friends. This stretch is a dead loss. The wind favours the offshore direction (SW), which is the optimum, but it doesn’t matter when there’s nothing to ride. The only potential silver lining is that consistency here is “fairly consistent” at other times, so it tends not to stay poor forever—forecasts can change.

That’s it. Hold tight.
