The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. This forecast is a proper bummer. Over the whole 16 days, there’s no surf worth paddling for. The swell is tiny, and the wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore, making it messy. We’re in for a long quiet spell.
The only break we’ve got data on is 7th Street, a river/jetty spot that’s inconsistent and only works with a SSW swell. The water temp is 71°, which is 5° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a wild anomaly, like a lukewarm bathtub.
From Saturday 8 August through to Friday 14 August, the swell is pathetic, between 2ft and 3ft, with periods around 13 to 18 seconds. The combined energy is weak, mostly under 300 (like 284 or 260), so there’s no power. Winds are onshore or cross-onshore, and it’s all rated poor. No standout anywhere.
From Saturday 15 August through to Sunday 23 August, the swell stays small, never breaking 3ft. The energy picks up a bit mid-week, hitting 505 on the 15th and 519 on the 16th, but that’s still only moderate. Winds are still onshore or cross-onshore, with gusts up to 12 mph, making it choppy. The surf is always poor or marginal.
The best session? There isn’t one. This is a total blank run. 7th Street rarely breaks, and when it does, everything has to line up perfectly – and it doesn’t. For a river/jetty setup, this is a dead period. Honestly, a kite surfer might get something out of it, but for a paddle surfer, forget it.
Keep an eye on the forecasts, but right now, I’d leave the board in the garage.
