The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. I’ve scanned the charts for the next couple of weeks, and it’s a tough one. We’ve got a long stretch of flat, poor conditions ahead. The swell charts are showing zero energy heading our way for a good while, so don’t go getting your hopes up for any proper waves soon.

We’re looking at a dry spell that starts now and runs for the whole 16-day forecast period. The first solid recommendation doesn't come until *August 4th*, but sadly, even then it’s a no-go. We’re looking at a real blank run here, which can happen in this area.

Now, when I look at Selkirk, our only real option, it’s just not doing anything for us. The water temp is sitting at 73°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s the only bit of good news. The wind is mostly light, some glassy moments here and there, but there’s simply no swell. The energy reading is a big fat zero. It’s all just flat and unrideable.

All the way through the first week—Tuesday the 4th, Wednesday the 5th, Thursday the 6th—it’s all the same. Light cross-shore breezes, some glassy patches, but no waves to speak of. We get a bit of a Westerly breeze kicking up on the 7th and into the weekend, but again, with no swell, it’s pointless. The conditions stay poor. There’s nothing to get excited about. It's a test of patience.

The second week doesn't offer any relief. From Monday the 11th right through to Tuesday the 19th, the story remains the same. Flat. Nothing on the charts. Some mornings might look clean, like the 15th and 16th with that light southerly and glassy conditions, but there’s just no swell behind it. It’s a flat, windless ocean. Pretty, but useless for us.

So, take a break, wax your board for the future, but don't bother checking the cam for a while. There's nothing at all on offer in this 16-day window. The outlook is bleak, but these flat spells never last forever, and the forecasts can change. When the swell finally shows, and it will, this place has the consistency to light up. Just be ready.

That’s all from me. Keep the faith.

Rusty.
