Table - best surf conditions forecast for Sandy Mouth over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let’s talk about Sandy Mouth.
Right off the bat, the water’s real warm – about 64°F, which is 4°F warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s a properly notable shift, so don’t be shocked if it feels like a warm bath out there. But the surf? Honestly, it’s been a tough stretch for the next week or so. Most of the week is just small, weak, and messy. The only real chance for a paddle comes Friday morning, July 11th. It’s small – only 2ft from the north-northwest with a short 6-second period – but you’ve got a clean, moderate offshore breeze from the east-northeast. It’s not going to get the heart racing, with combined wave energy just 57 (weak), but it’s your best clean wave in the first week. The crowds at Sandy Mouth can show up sometimes, so expect a few heads bobbing for that tiny swell.
Saturday morning July 12th is another glass-half-full moment: 1ft, short period, but a fresh offshore. It’s small. The wind is good but the swell’s barely there. The afternoon of Wednesday July 22nd catches the eye because the wind goes dead calm – glassy conditions – and the swell is only a modest 3ft from the west-northwest, period at 6 seconds. Combined energy reads 145 (moderate). It’s surfable and clean, but it’s hardly a standout. Still, if you’ve been waiting through a week of nothing, that Wednesday afternoon glass-off is the most user-friendly wave in the entire window.
The big news is the final weekend – Saturday July 25th. Swell ticks up to 5ft from the west, with a 9-second period and combined energy jumping to 351 (strong). That’s the biggest, most powerful swell of the entire run. But don’t get too excited just yet – the wind is cross-onshore from the west-northwest at 16 mph, which will put a chop on it. It’s also borderline for beginners at that size; anyone under confident might want to sit this one out. The Saturday afternoon remains onshore and messy too.
So, if you’re looking for a true standout, Wednesday afternoon July 22nd offers the cleanest glassy surface and a modest but workable 3ft west-northwest swell. And if you want the biggest push, that Saturday July 25th morning is your heavy hitter, but only if you can handle onshore chop.
Otherwise, there are big gaps of days with nothing worth chasing, especially from the 12th through the 22nd. The first real wave isn’t until Friday morning July 11th, and even that’s tiny. It’s been a flat run for Sandy Mouth, but with a couple of windows like that Wednesday glass-off, it just shows the forecast can change.
Stay patient, keep the wax in the car.
Rusty.
