Table - best surf conditions forecast for Sandy Mouth over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this next couple of weeks at Sandy Mouth is looking pretty flat and uninspiring. We’ve got a long gap of nothing happening, so let’s just get into it.
The overall pattern is one of very small, weak swell with a lot of wind, meaning for the most part, the wave quality is going to be poor. The combined swell energy is mostly in the double digits, rarely even hitting the low 100s, which tells you just how little power is in the water.
We’ll start with a brief moment of hope on Wednesday, July 8th. The morning session sees a tiny 2ft swell from the West, period of 9 seconds, and glassy conditions with the wind coming light from the West at 3 mph. It’s surfable, but very ordinary – the combined energy is only 63. If you’re desperate for a splash, that’s your window, but it’s not worth getting excited about.
From Wednesday afternoon right through to Thursday, July 23rd, it’s a brutal run. That’s over two weeks of barely any surf. The swell drops to 1ft and smaller for days on end, often with periods under 8 seconds, or worse, those super long 19 to 21-second periods that just won’t wrap in properly here. The wind is mostly fresh and strong – 18 or 22 mph offshore or cross-off – which keeps the surface clean but makes it a battle to paddle into a 0.7ft bump. The combined energy values are in the teens or twenties. Honestly, from Sunday, July 12th onwards, the “poor surf conditions” tag is correct. With the swell so tiny and the wind so strong, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The only other blip on the radar is Thursday morning, July 23rd. We get a little bump of 3ft from the North, but the period is a weak 5 seconds, the combined energy is still only 86, and the wind is cross-off at 9 mph. It’s clean, but it won’t have any push. Don’t hold your breath.
Look, it's a classic summer flat spell for this exposed W-facing stretch. It tends not to stay poor for long, but right now, there’s nothing on the table worth paddling for until at least the very end of the forecast period, and even that’s a long shot.
Stay patient.
