Table - best surf conditions forecast for Sandy Mouth over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks at Sandy Mouth are looking pretty bleak. We’ve got a long stretch of small, messy waves ahead, so don’t be expecting any hero sessions. The best we can hope for is a few clean, tiny windows, but honestly, this is mostly a write-off for paddle surfing.
The story starts Thursday the 9th. Thursday morning actually has a bit of clean, cross-off wind and a 2ft W swell, but the combined energy is weak (90). It’s surfable, but very ordinary. By the afternoon, it’s already gone to crap with a cross-on wind. That’s pretty much the theme.
Friday the 10th morning is the lone bright spot. We’re looking at 3ft from the west with a 9-second period, and the wind is light offshore from the ENE. The combined energy is still just moderate (104), but the clean conditions will make it rideable. It’s not a standout by any stretch, but it’s the best we’ll see. The afternoon turns to junk again.
From Saturday the 11th onwards, it’s a downhill slide. The swell drops to 2ft or less, and while the offshore winds stick around for a few days, the wave energy is in the gutter (down to 11 by Monday the 13th). By Tuesday the 15th, we get a glassy morning with zero wind, but the swell is a pathetic 1.0ft with an 11-second period. It’s flat, mate. The rest of the first week and into the second week is a dead zone of poor surf, onshore winds, and tiny lumps.
The only time the swell tries to push back is right at the end of the outlook. On Friday the 24th, we get a 5ft W swell, but the period is a short, weak 6 seconds, and the wind is onshore. That kind of setup is messy and interesting for kite surfers more than paddle surfers. The combined energy jumps to 170, but with that wind, it’s still a no-go for a decent surf.
So, to sum it up: Friday morning the 10th is your best bet for a clean, small wave. After that, it’s a long, flat grind until the 24th, and even that one isn’t worth getting excited about. The forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a tough run.
Rusty.
