Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, folks, this is Rusty. Let’s take a look at the outlook for Sandy Mouth. I’ve gotta be straight with you – this is a tough run. The whole 16-day window is a flat spell. There are literally no good surf options on offer. We’ve got a long gap of nothing but poor conditions and tiny, weak waves.
The best you can say is that on a couple of mornings, the wind goes light offshore or glassy, and you might find a knee-high bump. Wednesday morning the 8th of July, for example, it’s glassy with a 2ft W swell (9s), but the energy is weak (61). It’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary. You might get a similar look on the morning of Thursday the 9th of July with a clean, light cross-off breeze and the same tiny 2ft W swell. The water temperature here is much warmer than normal for this time of year, reading 63°F.
The swell tries to bump up a little around Saturday the 11th of July, hitting 4ft to 5ft from the NNW, but that comes with strong cross-onshore winds at 15 mph, ruining any chance of quality. It’s choppy and messy. There’s a bit of moderate energy in the water (173 to 348), but with that wind and short, weak period (6-7s), it’s not worth a paddle.
After that, it’s back to tiny, weak surf for the rest of the run. The wind does swing offshore again on the morning of Tuesday the 14th of July, but the swell is only 1ft with a long 11s period, which is just not enough push. The same story plays out on the 15th and 17th of July mornings: clean wind, but the waves are barely there.
Honestly, for the whole 16 days, there’s no standout. The best of a bad bunch would be the glassy or clean mornings around the 8th, 9th, and 14th of July if you’re desperate for a tiny, clean wave. But don’t get your hopes up. This is a blank run, and it’s just how it goes sometimes around here.
This is Rusty, signing off.
