Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s look at this in feet and Fahrenheit. The only spot on the menu is Rye Ocean Beach, a beach and reef joint exposed to the south-west.
This Sunday, the 5th of July, kicks off with a heavy 10ft SSW groundswell, period a massive 17 seconds. The energy is through the roof at 7404. The wind is a cross-off from the SE at 15 mph, but this is too big for this break. It’s an expert-only day or maybe one for the kite surfers. The water temp is about normal for this time of year.
Monday the 6th is the real start of the good stuff. Swell drops to a much friendlier 6ft from the SW, with a 14-second period. The morning has a light NNE breeze at 6 mph, keeping things clean. This is excellent for experienced surfers, with energy at 1383. The afternoon goes glassy and smaller, but the tide gets weird. The morning is the move.
Tuesday the 7th keeps it rolling. The morning is a winner: 5ft SW swell with a long 17-second period, light offshore from the NE at 3 mph, and a solid energy of 1564. The afternoon gets a little cross-on, so get on it early.
The standout day by a mile is Wednesday the 8th. Morning is 6ft of SW swell, an 18-second period, an offshore ENE breeze, and energy of 2539. It’s pure. But the afternoon goes glassy – 7ft swell, 17-second period, dead calm. Energy jumps to 3075. That is the one. It’s a bit chunky for beginners, but for everyone else, that glassy afternoon is gold.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th offer more clean, surfable days with 5ft to 6ft SW swells and light north winds. Good, but they don’t match that Wednesday magic.
Then the wheels fall off. Saturday the 11th gets wrecked by a strong 28 mph north wind, blowing everything out. From Sunday the 12th all the way to Monday the 20th, it’s a lost cause. We’re talking huge 8ft to 13ft swells hammered by onshore winds, making a complete mess. Energy readings from 4798 up to a monstrous 12117. Don’t bother. Friday the 17th offers a tiny 4ft swell with a cleaner wind, but the energy is low at 581. A small consolation prize in a rough patch.
Rusty.
