Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rye Ocean Beach over the next 16 days.
G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Rye Ocean Beach over the next couple of weeks.
We've got a bit of a mixed bag coming up. The immediate forecast is looking pretty tidy for the experienced crew, with a solid, long-period southwest swell rolling in. The water temperature is sitting at 57°, which is pretty much spot on average for this time of year, so no nasty surprises there.
The standout window is Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th. Thursday morning, the wind is a light cross-offshore breeze from the north, which is gonna keep the surface clean. We're looking at a 5ft SW groundswell with a very long 15-second period, packing a decent punch of energy (1075). This is proper stuff for surfers who know what they're doing. The afternoon cleans up even more with a light NE offshore breeze, making for some really nice lines. On Friday, the swell builds slightly to 5ft, again with a sweet 15-second period and a ton of energy (1193). The wind is a bit stronger from the north, but still cross-off, keeping things clean. The afternoon session on Friday is also a winner with light NNE winds. These are the best couple of days here.
Now, the weekend is a write-off. Saturday the 11th gets hammered by strong northerly winds, which will mess up the waves. Sunday the 12th turns nasty with a huge 12ft to 13ft swell on the cards, but the wind is howling and cross-shore, making it a complete mess. The combined energy is off the charts (6576 and 5603), but you won't want to be out there. This pattern of big, messy swell and strong winds actually continues through to Tuesday the 15th. The wave heights are well over 8ft, making it expert-only territory anyway, but the wind is ruining any chance of good surf. It's a solid four-day gap with no real options.
We get a bit of a reprieve on Wednesday the 16th. The swell is still a bit big at 10ft, but the wind is a moderate cross-shore from the southeast. It's still going to be a handful for all but the experts.
The next real hope comes in on Thursday the 17th and Friday the 18th. Thursday morning, the swell drops back to a manageable 5ft with a 14-second period, and a light cross-offshore breeze from the east-southeast will give you clean waves (1057 energy). The afternoon is a bit smaller and more marginal. But Friday the 18th is the second standout of the forecast. The morning sees a nice 6ft SW groundswell with a very long 16-second period, and a light offshore breeze from the northeast, making for some excellent, clean surf (1494 energy). Then, Friday afternoon, the wind drops to glassy conditions with a slight breeze from the SSE, and the 6ft swell is still pumping (1491 energy). That's a bluebird session right there.
After that, it gets a bit inconsistent. Saturday the 19th has some clean 7ft to 6ft surf, but it's a bit big for the break and the wind is just okay. Sunday and Monday are looking small and onshore, with strong winds, so not great. Tuesday the 22nd has a clean 7ft swell with a light offshore from the northeast, which is a good sign for the experienced lads, but the energy is moderate. The rest of the week into the 24th looks poor, with onshore winds and small, weak swell. It's a classic case of getting on it early in the forecast.
Rusty out.
