Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rye Ocean Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, mate, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
Right off the bat, this outlook for Rye Ocean Beach is a tough one. We’ve got a serious run of wind and wild swell that’s going to keep things messy for a while. The wait is real – there’s no surf worth paddling for until at least Wednesday, July 15th, and even then, it’s only for the brave.
The big story is the first few days. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are a write-off. We’re talking 25-34 mph winds, swinging from cross-off to cross-on, with swell anywhere from 3 ft to 12 ft. The combined energy is huge, hitting 2340 and even 3285 but it’s all just a cauldron of cross-chop and onshore mush. Don’t even think about it.
Monday the 13th holds some serious size – 12 ft from the SW with a long period of 15-16 seconds. That’s a groundswell with 5362 to 6219 units of energy, which is proper strong. But the wind is a strong 28 mph cross-shore, making it a mess. This setup is much more for the kite crew than paddle surfers. Same goes for Tuesday the 14th – 13 ft swell with a WSW wind? That’s big and lumpy (13303 energy). Only experts should even look at it.
Now, Wednesday the 15th. This is where things get interesting for the brave. The swell drops to 8 ft in the morning and 7 ft in the afternoon, still a SW groundswell at 14 seconds. The wind goes light – 12 mph cross-shore in the morning, dropping to 6 mph in the arvo. That’s a moderate to light breeze and the water is clean. But the kicker is the size. 8 ft is big and that means it’s for experienced surfers only. The combined energy is still solid at 2603. If you’re an expert, Wednesday arvo could be the standout window with the lighter wind, but it’ll be heavy.
Thursday the 16th morning is only marginal with a 6 ft swell and some cross-shore breeze. But hold up – Thursday afternoon turns it on. We get glassy conditions, zero wind, and a clean 6 ft SW swell with a 14-second period. The energy is 1472. That’s the pick of the early window for an experienced surfer looking for a clean, powerful wave. It’ll be quality, but still solid.
Friday the 17th is another beauty on paper. Morning brings a 8 ft swell with a 16-second period and light cross-off wind – clean. The energy is 3306. That’s a lot of power. Then Friday afternoon goes glassy with a 8 ft swell and the same long period. This is the true standout of the outlook. Glassy, clean, and a 8 ft SW groundswell? That’s a session for the confident to remember.
After that, things drop off. Saturday the 18th is smaller at 4-5 ft but the wind picks up to 16 mph – clean, but marginal. Sunday the 19th sees a weird 20-second period swell at 3 ft, but it’s blown out by strong winds with 891 energy. Not one for the beach.
The second week is a bit of a mixed bag. Monday the 22nd morning has a 5 ft, 10-second swell with light cross-off wind – expect good conditions. Then Tuesday the 23rd morning brings a massive 12 ft, 16-second swell from SW, with a fresh breeze and clean conditions. That’s huge. 5331 energy. Only for experts, and even then, it’s a bomb. Thursday the 24th and Friday the 25th are blown out or marginal, with strong winds and messy cross-shore chop.
Don’t get your hopes up too high for the long-range stuff. The real sweet spot is that Friday the 17th arvo – glassy, clean, and a solid 8 ft groundswell. That’s the one to circle. If you’re an experienced surfer, the Wednesday the 15th arvo also offers a heavy but cleaner window.
Overall, a slow start, a few heavy windows for the brave, and one glassy gem to finish the first week. Hang in there.
Rusty.
