Roaring Beach Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here, let's talk about what's coming our way for Roaring Beach.

Alright, grab a coffee because the next two weeks are a bit of a rollercoaster. We've got a massive pulse of swell hitting us right out of the gate, but honestly, it’s going to be way too much for a standard paddle session. This isn't a straight-up quiet period, but for the first week, the waves are either too big to handle or just messy. Let's get into it.

We start Sunday, August 30th, and it’s game on but not for us mere mortals. Roaring Beach is seeing a solid 13ft SW groundswell with a 13-second period, and the combined energy is pumping at a massive 8890 (moderate to strong energy). The wind is a moderate cross-on from the W at 12 mph, so it’s choppy and fat. The water is sitting at 53°, which is bang on average for right now. This one is for the big-wave chargers only, if anyone is silly enough. The swell just won't let up through Monday the 31st either, still 12ft SW groundswell, though Monday afternoon we get a brief window of glassy conditions with SE 3 mph winds, but the 12ft face is still too much for your standard board.

Tuesday, September 1st, we drop right down. The swell backs off to 5ft but it’s a long period SW groundswell (16 seconds) which can be a bit fat and walled-up, making it tricky. Winds are cross-off from the NNW, so the surface will be clean, but the energy is weak (1101) and the forecast is marginal. Not your best bet.

We see a bit of a bump on Wednesday the 2nd with a 6ft SSW groundswell, but the moderate cross-shore wind from the WNW will mess it up, making it lumpy. Not worth the paddle.

Thursday the 3rd is a washout. Strong breeze at 28 mph from the W turning to a 13ft SW onshore mess. Leave the board at home.

Now Friday, September 4th, we’re getting somewhere. The swell settles to 8ft SW, still a big wave, but the wind is a clean cross-off from the NNW at 9 mph for the afternoon. This is the standout for the first week, offering excellent conditions for experienced surfers. The energy is still solid (3647), and that clean face will be holding its shape. If you’ve got the stones and the right stick, Friday afternoon is your window.

Saturday the 5th goes downhill again with strong onshore winds, and the rest of the first week is a mix of marginal surf, onshore slop, or the swell getting too big again. It’s a rocky road.

The second week looks more promising, but it’s a long-range call, so treat it with a pinch of salt. There are two absolute gems in there for the lighter days.

From Friday, September 11th, we have small but clean conditions. A light offshore NNW breeze at 6 mph is going to make that 4ft SSW groundswell look a lot better than the numbers suggest. The energy is low (897), but for a longboard or a fish, that's going to be clean, reeling, and a joy. Keep an eye on that Friday morning.

But the true highlight of the whole 16-day outlook is the weekend of September 12th and 13th. Saturday, the 12th, is the real prize. We’ve got 5ft SSW groundswell with a 17-second period, offshore light breeze all day from the NNW at 6 mph, and clean as a whistle. The energy is moderate (1958). This is the one for everyone. It’s not too big, it’s clean, and with that long period at this sheltered spot, the shape should be proper. Sunday the 13th then steps it up to 10ft again, which is back into the big-wave territory, but the wind is clean and offshore again, so it’s a good option for the crew on the bigger boards.

For the average surfer, Saturday, September 12th is your day. Mark it. The early part of the second week is small and iffy, but that weekend looks like a stunner. Keep your fingers crossed.
