Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s talk about Praia Tenório. This spot is fairly exposed to the south swell, and it’s a beginner-plus kind of wave. The water temp is sitting at 72°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year — so you’ll be comfortable in a shorty or even just board shorts if you run hot.
The forecast kicks off with tiny, weak surf right now. Friday afternoon has a little 1-foot south-southeast swell with a stupidly long 17-second period, and combined energy is only 110 — that’s weak. Winds are onshore from the south at 9 mph. Honestly, it’s poor. Don’t bother paddling out yet.
Saturday morning on the 4th of July gets a bit more interesting. Swell jumps to 5 feet from the south with an 11-second period, and energy bumps up to moderate at 610. Winds swing light from the SSW at 6 mph, still onshore though. The morning’s marginal, and the afternoon holds similar 5 feet south swell with 13-second period and energy at 862, but again, wind is light onshore from the south. There’s potential, but the conditions are questionable with light rain around.
Now, Sunday the 5th of July is where things get cleaner. Early morning you’ve got 5 feet south swell, 12-second period, moderate energy at 636, and the wind goes glassy from the south at only 3 mph. That’s clean surf. This is your first real standout. For a beginner-plus spot, 5 feet is about the upper limit before it gets tricky, but it’s manageable with the glassy conditions. Expect sometimes crowds here — it’s a known spot.
Monday the 6th of July morning keeps the goodness going with 4 feet south swell, 10-second period, energy at 406, and glassy east wind at 3 mph. Another clean session. The afternoon gets a cross-shore breeze from the east at 9 mph, which is okay, but not as perfect.
Tuesday the 7th of July morning is glassy again with 3 feet south-southeast swell. That’s small but fun on a log or a mini-mal. By afternoon, the wind kicks up from the southwest at 12 mph, cross-onshore, and the surf drops to 3 feet — poor.
Wednesday the 8th of July morning: glassy south wind at 3 mph, 3 feet southeast swell, energy at 293. Not huge, but clean and rideable. The next few days drop off into smaller, weaker waves with occasional glassy windows.
There’s a notable gap from the 12th of July onward where the surf gets tiny or marginal for several days — except for a couple of windows.
Sunday the 12th of July morning is flat with 0.7 feet south swell and energy at 16 — don’t bother.
Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th of July mornings both offer glassy conditions with 3 feet to 4 feet south-southeast swell, moderate energy around 323 to 369. That’s small but clean, good for the beginner crew.
Now, Saturday the 18th of July — this is the real standout in the long-range. Morning brings 3 feet south-southeast swell with a very long 17-second period, and combined energy jumps to 722 — that’s strong groundswell energy for such a small height. Winds are glassy calm. This is promising but remember it’s more than a week out, so keep an eye on it. The long period means those waves will have power and shape, but at a beach/reef setup like this, it might wall up a bit. Still, with zero wind, it’ll be clean and fun for the better surfers on a longboard or fish.
Overall, Sunday the 5th of July morning is your best bet in the near term, and Saturday the 18th of July morning is the long-range one to circle on the calendar. Stay patient through the flat spells — they don’t last forever.
