Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what's comin' down the pipe at Ponta do Mangue. Gotta be straight with ya—this stretch ain't lookin' too pretty for a while. We've got a solid run of messy, onshore conditions and small swell that's just not gonna line up for a proper paddle session for most of the forecast period.
The window starts off rough. Sunday, the 5th of July, we're lookin' at waves around 3 ft from the ESE, but a cross-on wind is messin' it all up. The combined swell energy is weak (139), and it's just poor surf. Monday's even smaller, droppin' to 2 ft with a short 8-second period and chop. Not worth wettin' a suit.
It stays flat and blown out for days. Tuesday the 7th gives us a weird combo—tiny waves, but a long 21-second period on the afternoon means groundswell energy (163), but at 1 ft, it's a total non-event. By Wednesday the 8th, we see a spike in energy (267) with a 17-second period from the south, but the swell height is only 2 ft and it's cross-on. Marginal at best, but more of a tease than a real session.
The pattern keeps up: small SSE groundswells in the 2 ft to 3 ft range for the next week, but every day has that cross-on or onshore wind spoiling the party. Crowds are *sometimes* a factor here, but honestly, with this quality, you'll have the place to yourself, and you'll know why. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no real surprises there.
Finally, we get a little glimmer. On Friday the 17th of July, the morning goes glassy as the wind drops to nearly nothing—just 3 mph from the ESE, dead calm. Swell is only 1 ft from the SSE with an 11-second period, and the energy is weak (73), but glassy conditions are a rare treat. It's surfable, but only just. Don't expect a wave to write home about.
After that, it's back to small, choppy leftovers and a long period groundswell on Saturday the 18th that's just too small to do anything with. The last real mention is Monday the 20th of July, with a 2 ft S swell, 13-second period, cross-shore light breeze, and moderate energy (215). Marginal, again.
Bottom line: this is a tough 16-day stretch. If you're desperate, the glassy Friday morning the 17th is your best bet, but keep your expectations real low. The consistent lack of quality surf here is pretty normal for this area when the wind shifts. Forecasts can change, but for now, you might be better off checkin' the kite gear if the wind picks up—those cross-onshore days at a beach setup could be fun for that, just not for paddlin'.
Rusty.
