Table - best surf conditions forecast for Playa de Tranqueru over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer at Playa de Tranqueru over the next couple of weeks.
Look, I'll be straight with you – it's a bit of a slow start. The first few days are pretty ordinary, with tiny swell and onshore winds making a mess of things. The water's sitting at 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that's a small comfort. You'll be waiting a while for anything decent.
The first real chance to get a wave is Thursday morning, the 9th of July. It's only 2ft of NW swell with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy is weak (78). But the wind is glassy from the NE, so it'll be clean. Just don't expect much push – it's very ordinary.
Saturday morning, the 11th, is a similar story. Still 2ft from the NW, but the period bumps up to 11 seconds, giving it a bit more reach, and the energy creeps into the moderate range (108). The glassy ENE wind should make for some smooth little waves. Not a standout, but a chance to get wet.
After that, it's a long, frustrating stretch. From Sunday the 12th right through to Tuesday the 21st of July, the wind is almost always onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell stays small and weak. There are a few mornings with glassy conditions, like the 14th and the 16th, but the swell is tiny – 1ft or less – with energy down in the teens. It's just not worth the paddle out.
The first real highlight pops up on Wednesday morning, the 22nd of July. The swell picks up to 5ft from the NW, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is strong (282). The wind is totally calm, glassy – it's going to be clean. This is the best session on offer. The wave comment says "expect good surf conditions," and I agree. It's a bit of a short-period swell, so the waves might be a bit crumbly, but with that size and those conditions, it's the pick of the bunch.
The following morning, Thursday the 23rd, is also worth a look. It's 4ft from the NW, period of 8 seconds, and the energy is still solid (205). The wind is glassy again from the WNW. It's not quite as good as the day before, but it's still a clean, surfable morning.
The rest of the second week looks like it's back to onshore slop, with a bit more size but poor conditions. The 24th of July has 5–6ft from the NW, but the wind is onshore or cross-onshore, so it's going to be bumpy and messy.
So, to sum it up: Wednesday the 22nd of July is your standout. Get there early for that glassy morning on the 5ft NW swell. The 23rd is a solid backup. The rest of the run is a waiting game.
Rusty.
