The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Playa de Tranqueru over the next couple of weeks.
It’s been flat and poor for days, and honestly, the start of this outlook is a bit of a bummer. We’re looking at a gap of absolutely nothing worth paddling out for from now until Sunday the 20th of July. The surf is tiny or junk, with cross-shore or onshore winds making a mess of things.
Then, on Monday morning the 20th of July, we finally get a pulse. The swell pushes up to 5 ft coming from the NNE with a period of 7 seconds, and the wind goes glassy. That’s a proper window of opportunity. The combined energy is moderate (251), so there’s enough push to get a few waves. It’s not a classic, but it’s the best we’ve seen and will be clean. Expect a bit of crowd, as it’s a spot that can get busy.
The rest of that week into the next is a frustrating mix. Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd see the swell hanging around 5 ft to 6 ft from the NNE, but those moderate cross-onshore winds just chop it up. Thursday morning the 23rd is glassy again, but the swell drops right back to 3 ft. It’s a tease.
The real standout, and the one to circle on your calendar, is Saturday morning the 1st of August. The swell from the NNW is solid at 6 ft with a 10-second period, and the combined energy is strong (790). The wind is light and cross-shore, so it’ll be holding shape. This is a pretty good setup for an intermediate, and the energy in the water is real. The direction is a solid match for what the spot likes. It’s the pick of the whole run.
The following morning, Sunday the 2nd of August, is still worth a look with 5 ft from the NNW and a light cross-shore, only slightly less energy (475). It’s a decent backup option.
Overall, it’s a slow start, but Monday the 20th and that Saturday the 1st of August are the windows to aim for. Keep the faith.
