Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what Playa de Tranqueru is serving up over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it's a slow start. The first wave of any real note isn't even on the radar until Friday, July 3rd, with a small 3.6ft NW groundswell rolling in, but the wind is cross and the energy is moderate at 299. The morning could give you a few, but the afternoon turns choppy, and it's just marginal. Saturday and Sunday are pretty flat, with tiny swell and onshore winds messing things up.
Monday the 6th sees a bit of a lull, with glassy conditions in the morning on a tiny 1.6ft NW swell, but it's weak (90 energy). That's about as good as it gets in the first week. The following days up to the 11th are all pretty ordinary, with small swell and cross-onshore winds. There's a slight bump on the 11th with a 2.6ft NW swell and moderate energy (139), but the wind isn't clean. It's a grind.
Now, look here, I’m getting a bit more excited. The second week starts showing some promise. Sunday morning, July 12th, it goes glassy again with a 2.0ft NW swell (102 energy). Small but clean. Then Monday morning, July 13th? That’s the first real standout. Glassy conditions, a 2.3ft NW groundswell with a long 13-second period, and energy jumping to 260. That long period means proper shape, good lines. It’s worth getting wet for the dawn patrol.
But the big one, the one that has me checking my wax, is Saturday, July 18th. Saturday morning is an absolute beauty. 7.2ft of NNW swell, a solid 9-second period, and glassy conditions. The energy is a massive 1214, meaning serious power. This is expert-level stuff at over 8ft, not for the faint-hearted, but for those who know what they're doing, it's going to be pumping. The afternoon is still good but more cross-on, and the swell drops a touch, but the morning is the gold window. This is your standout.
Water temperature is sitting at 68.7°F on the first day, which is 4.3° warmer than average – that’s notably warm for the time of year, so you can leave the thick wetsuit at home.
Overall, it’s a slow first 10 days, then the juice starts flowing in the second week. Keep an eye on that Saturday the 18th.
