Table - best surf conditions forecast for Playa de Tranqueru over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. First up, we’ve got Playa de Tranqueru. This spot is fairly exposed to the swell, and it’s an intermediate wave. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing out of the ordinary.
Right now, the first few days are a bit of a write-off. The surf is tiny, with poor conditions. We’re looking at flat to knee-high slop with light onshore winds. Not worth a paddle.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Thursday the 20th. The morning is still pretty marginal with a 4ft NNW swell, but the afternoon turns it on. The wind goes glassy, and we see a 5ft NNW groundswell rolling in with a 12-second period. The energy is moderate (666). This is a solid, clean wave for the intermediate crew. The sets will have good shape, and that long period will make the paddle out a bit easier. Just be aware that a long-period swell like this can break a bit straight at a beach break, but with the wind dead calm, it’s going to be a fun session.
But the real standout is Friday the 21st. Both the morning and afternoon are looking prime. A 6ft NNW swell, 10-second period, and glassy conditions all day. The energy is strong (780 and 792). This is a proper, clean, rippable wave. The wind is light and offshore, so the faces will be smooth. This is the best of the whole forecast. Get out there.
The weekend of the 22nd and 23rd sees the swell drop back and the conditions get messy. Light onshore winds and smaller waves make for ordinary surf. Not much to write home about.
The following week is a mixed bag of small, weak swells and poor winds. The 26th of August has a 7ft WNW swell, but it’s a short period windswell with onshore winds, making it a choppy mess. That’s more of a kite surfing day than a paddle session.
The long-range call is for the 1st and 2nd of September. The 1st sees a clean 5ft NNW swell building, but it’s the 2nd of September that’s the real promise. A 8ft NNW groundswell with a 13-second period and glassy conditions. The energy is very strong (1777). This is an excellent, powerful wave, but at 8ft, it’s for experienced surfers only. It’s a long way off, so keep an eye on the forecasts, but it looks like a cracker.
So, the takeaway: Friday the 21st is your best bet for the near-term. Clean, fun, and consistent. The 2nd of September is the one to watch for the big, clean groundswell.
