Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s brewing at Playa de Tranqueru over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you—this isn’t one of those classic stretches where the ocean is on fire. It’s a slow burn, with only a few moments that might make you grab your board.
We start off looking at a real flat spell. The first few days are a write-off, to be honest—small, choppy, and not worth the paddle. The first glimpse of anything surfable doesn’t come until Monday, July 6th, with a tiny 1.6 ft NW swell, but it’s glassy in the morning. That’s about as good as it gets for a while, with combined energy a weak 69 (very low energy), but the glassy conditions will make it feel like a million bucks if you’re on a longboard or a foamie. The water is sitting at 68.5°F, which is a notable 4.1°F warmer than usual for this time of year—so you can leave the wetsuit at home.
The real standout, what I’m calling the best of the whole run, lands on Sunday, July 12th. We get a pulse of NNW swell hitting 3.9 ft, with combined energy climbing to 231 (moderate). The morning is glassy—absolute gold—and the swell direction from the NNW is a good match for the break’s preferred NW window. It’s a little small for a proper groundswell, but that 3.9 ft with clean conditions will be the best lines of the month. It’s an intermediate break, so keep that in mind if you’re a learner. The afternoon turns a bit onshore, so get out early.
The following Monday morning, July 13th, also offers a decent window: 3.0 ft NNW swell, glassy, energy at 178 (moderate). It’s not as beefy as Sunday, but it’s still clean and surfable. After that, the forecast drops back into small, choppy mush for the rest of the second week. By Thursday, July 16th, there’s a last gasp of 2.0 ft NW with glassy conditions in the morning, but the energy is only 89 (weak), so it’s a longboard-only affair.
Honestly, with the break being consistent and the swell staying mostly under 4.9 ft, it’s not a beginner’s nightmare—but it’s not a barrel fest either. If you’re a kite surfer, the afternoons with moderate cross-onshore winds and chop might actually look more interesting than paddle surfing for most of this period.
So, mark your calendar for Sunday, July 12th, and maybe Monday, July 13th. Everything else is a gamble on small, clean pockets. Stay stoked, and keep an eye on the horizon.
