Table - best surf conditions forecast for Playa de Lastres over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s happening at Playa de Lastres.
Right now, there’s nothing to get excited about. It’s a flat start with tiny, weak swell and wonky winds. The first week is pretty much a write-off for decent waves. The water temperature is sitting around 68°F, which is about average for the time of year.
We’re looking at a long gap. The first real sign of life doesn’t show up until Monday, July 20th. That morning, there’s a small 3ft NW groundswell pushing in, with a period of 7 seconds and a combined energy of 169 (moderate energy). The wind goes glassy, so the waves will be clean, but it’s far from pumping. Even then, it’s just surfable.
The rest of that week stays underwhelming. The swell sticks to around 3ft, but the wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, so it’s choppy and messy. Nothing to write home about.
Now, the stand-out. As we get into the second week, things finally wake up. Thursday, July 23rd is the best on offer, but only for experienced surfers. We’ve got a 7ft to 8ft NW swell rolling in from the NNW direction, with a period of 11 to 12 seconds – that’s a proper groundswell. Combined energy ramps up to 1101 and 1465 (strong to very strong wave energy). This is serious size. The wind is light cross-onshore or onshore, so it won’t be perfect, but there’s real power in the water. For those who know what they’re doing, this could be the one to chase. Keep in mind, it’s a river break, so the long-period swell might line up well, but the crowd factor is there – it’s sometimes busy.
Then, Friday, July 24th morning is another highlight. The swell drops to 5ft from the NNW, with a 10-second period and combined energy of 516 (moderate to strong). The magic part? Glassy conditions. That means clean, smooth faces. It’s a touch smaller than Thursday, but with that offshore wind, it could be the cleaner session of the two.
After that, the swell fades and the wind turns onshore again for the rest of the run. The last few days of July and into the 27th, it’s back to small, messy leftovers.
So if you’re looking to paddle out, the window is pretty narrow: Thursday the 23rd for the heavy stuff (experts only), or Friday the 24th morning for cleaner, more manageable waves.
Rusty out.
