Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a proper look at what's on the cards for Playa de Ereaga. Gotta be straight with you – it's a tough stretch ahead, so don't get your hopes up too high.
Looking at the whole 16-day run, the pattern is pretty bleak. We've got a solid block of tiny, weak surf with almost no energy behind it, and the wind is rarely playing ball. The water is sitting at 73°, which is a whopping 6° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s seriously unusual, almost feels like a warm bath out there. But don’t let that fool you, because the waves just aren't there.
From Tuesday the 7th right through to Sunday the 19th of July, it's a write-off. We're talking about a full 12 days with barely a ripple. Swell heights are mostly between 1.0ft and 2ft, and the combined energy is pathetic – often under 100 (weak energy), sometimes as low as single digits. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and even the glassy mornings on the 12th, 13th, and 14th can't save these tiny, gutless waves. The swell is coming from the NW, which is the optimum direction for this sheltered spot, but there's just no size or power.
There's a tiny blip of hope on the 20th of July. Monday morning sees a bump to 3ft from the WNW, with the combined energy finally getting into the moderate range at 133. But it's cross-onshore with a moderate breeze at 12 mph, so it'll be choppy and messy. By the afternoon, the swell pushes to 5ft and the wind cranks up to 22 mph from the WNW – that’s fresh and lumpy, more of a kite-surfing kind of session than a clean paddle. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it'll be weak and crumbly.
After that, it drops back down again. Tuesday the 21st has 3ft from the NW, but again, onshore wind. Wednesday the 22nd might be the pick of the entire outlook if you're desperate. A 3ft swell from the NNW with a light cross-offshore breeze from the ESE, giving clean conditions. But honestly, with a combined energy of just 81 (weak), it's not going to be anything special.
The one stand-out window? If you absolutely have to get wet, make it Wednesday morning, July 22nd. The light cross-offshore wind from the ESE will keep it clean, and the 3ft swell from the NNW is the best we'll see. But don't expect much – it's small, weak, and the break is rarely breaks anyway, so you'd be lucky to find a wave. This is a beginner spot and it's sheltered, but when the waves are this small and inconsistent, it's tough going for everyone. For all other days, you're honestly better off leaving the board at home.
Rusty.
