The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, breaking it down for the imperial crew. Ormond Beach is looking at a long, quiet stretch with very little to get stoked about. From now until around August 21st, there’s a big gap of weak, messy surf and winds that just won’t cooperate. Not a good time for a paddle.
Starting off Thursday, August 6th, we’ve got tiny swell at 1 ft from the SW with onshore wind. The combined energy is only 103, real weak stuff. Water temp is 70°, which is 7° warmer than normal – that’s a big anomaly, very unusual. The rest of the first week stays small, 1 ft to 2 ft, with onshore and cross-onshore winds. Saturday morning, August 8th, shows a pulse of 2 ft at 18 seconds from the SSW – a long period groundswell that can break straight on a beach/jetty. It’s only marginal, with light onshore wind.
The second week looks the same: swell from 2 ft to 3 ft from the SSW, winds out of the SW, WSW, or W, mostly cross-onshore or onshore. Combined energy hits the 300s and 500s around the 14th and 15th, but without clean wind, it’s just not going to shape up.
The only bright spot is Friday morning, August 21st. The wind goes glassy out of the SSW at 3 mph. The swell’s still tiny at 2 ft from the SSW with a 16-second period, combined energy 195 (weak). It’s surfable but very ordinary. That’s the pick of the bunch, but it’s not saying much. For a break that’s usually fairly consistent, this is a long dry spell. Forecasts can change, so don’t give up hope entirely, but for now, I’d find something else to do.
