The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the surf outlook for Ormond Beach. It’s a bit of a flat spell we’re looking at, to be honest. The whole 16-day window is one long stretch of small, onshore-affected conditions, so there aren't any true standout sessions to get genuinely fired up about.
Kicking off from August 6th, we’ve got tiny swell around 1ft coming from the southwest. The period is a very long 13 seconds, so it’s a groundswell, but with a light cross-onshore breeze, it’s just producing small wind ripples. That energy reading is weak, sitting at 103. The water temperature is about average for this time of year. Honestly, for the first week, it’s the same repeated story: low heights between 1ft and 2ft, mostly from the SSW, with periods ranging from 13 to 19 seconds. The wind stays light and cross-onshore or onshore, so the surf quality is poor. There’s a very long-period groundswell on the 7th (19 seconds), but at only 2ft, it’s just not got the size to do anything worthwhile.
We roll into the second week, and it’s more of the same. August 14th sees a bump in combined energy to a moderate 421, but the wave comment still calls it marginal. The height only reaches 2ft to 2ft. On the 15th, the swell nudges up to 3ft with a 16-second period, and the energy is strong at 551, but again, the wind is cross-onshore, making it choppy. That’s the best the whole period gets, and it’s still a messy, poor-quality option. Honestly, the setup is so consistently onshore that if you’re a kite surfer, the wind and chop might look more appealing than what’s on offer for a paddle surfer.
There’s a weird spike on August 20th with a 5ft swell from the west but with a short period of only 6 seconds, creating sloppy, weak windswell. It’s still poor. The rest of the window just fizzles out with tiny 1ft swells.
So the bottom line: Ormond Beach is looking at a solid two-week stretch of nothing special. The surf is small, the wind is never fully favourable, and it’s all poor or marginal. If you’re chasing waves, you might want to leave the board at home for a bit.
Rusty.
