Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Number Threes has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the next week and a half or so is looking pretty grim. We’ve got a long stretch of marginal to poor conditions starting Friday the 3rd all the way through to around Monday the 13th. The wind is stubbornly coming from the ENE as a cross-offshore breeze, which isn't the worst direction, but it’s a fresh breeze (19-25 mph) for most of that time. That makes things messy and blown out.
The swell is all over the shop – short-period, windswell stuff mostly under 6.6 ft, coming from the ENE, which isn't the optimum SSE direction this break wants. The combined energy is moderate (in the 500-900 range), but with the short period and poor conditions, it’s not surf you want to paddle out for. On the 6th and 7th of July, the swell pushes up to 6.6 ft to 7.5 ft, but with a period of only 7 seconds and that fresh cross-offshore wind, it’s going to be a bumpy, gutless mess. Honestly, it looks more like a kite session than a surf session.
We finally get a glimmer of hope on Tuesday the 14th. The morning is still a bit iffy with light cross-shore wind and a small 2.3 ft SW swell (period 14 seconds), but the afternoon is the standout of this whole forecast. The wind drops right out to a light breeze, turning cross-offshore, and the water will be clean. It’s not big – just 2.3 ft from the SSW at 14 seconds – but that long-period groundswell will bring some nice, lined-up waves. The combined energy is moderate (493), and because it's a reef break that's consistent and exposed, it’s going to handle that swell beautifully. This is the one to circle on your calendar. Crowds are likely here often, so get down early.
After that, we slide back into a bit of a lull. Wednesday the 15th has a bump of 3.9 ft ENE windswell in the morning, but the period is a short 7 seconds again, and the wind picks up to a moderate breeze. Not worth the paddle. The rest of the week looks like more of the same poor-quality, short-period windswell.
Hang in there. The 14th is your day. The water temp is a balmy 79.5°F, which is about average for this time of year, so you won't need a thick suit.
