Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Mablethorpe. I’ll be straight with you, mate – it’s a tough stretch ahead. The guidance rates Mablethorpe as a beginner spot that’s inconsistent, and when it does pick up a touch, the wind and swell direction just aren’t playing ball for any proper surf. The water temp is a whopping 67°, which is 10° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s seriously unusual, almost like swimming in a bath, but it’s not going to make the waves any better.
We kick off Monday the 6th of July with next to nothing. The swell is a tiny 0.7ft out of the north with a short period of 5 seconds, giving us a combined energy of just 3 (weak energy). The wind is offshore and clean, sure, but there’s no wave to ride. This flat spell runs right through until the end of the week. On Tuesday the 7th, it’s even smaller at 0.3ft. By Wednesday the 8th, the swell bumps up to a meagre 1.0ft from the north with a period of 5 seconds and a combined energy of 10 (weak energy), but the wind turns onshore in the afternoon – a real mess. Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are more of the same: tiny, weak swell and cross-onshore or onshore wind. Not worth getting the wetsuit damp.
We finally see a pulse of energy coming in on Sunday the 12th of July. The swell lifts to 3ft from the north-northeast with a period of 6 seconds, and the combined energy reaches 57 (weak energy). That’s the biggest we’ll see for a while, but the wind is a moderate cross-onshore, chopping it up. Still, it’s poor surf conditions. Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th keep the swell around 2ft to 3ft, with combined energy values in the 40s and 70s (still weak energy), but the wind stays cross-shore or cross-onshore, so the quality is grim. There’s no standout session here.
From the 15th of July onward, the swell drops back into the doldrums. We’re looking at 0.3ft and 0.7ft waves with combined energy barely hitting single digits. By the 19th of July, it’s flat as a pancake, with no swell height recorded and zero combined energy. This gap of poor surf stretches right through to the end of the forecast on the 21st of July. Tuesday morning the 21st sees a whisper of 0.3ft from the north with gentle offshore wind and clean conditions, but again, there’s nothing to ride.
Honestly, Mablethorpe is going through a blank run. With the inconsistent nature of the break, this is more normal for the area. There’s simply no surf worth paddling out for over this whole 16-day window. Keep an eye on the charts, because it tends not to stay this poor forever. Today, it’s a hard pass.
Rusty.
