The Lowdown
Alright, let's get into it. This is Rusty, and I’m looking at the surf situation for Mablethorpe.
Honestly, mate, it’s a pretty grim run for the next two weeks. We’ve got a solid 16-day window here, but it’s a long stretch of poor conditions with no real standouts. For the first week, from Tuesday the 14th right through to Monday the 20th, the swell is tiny and weak, the wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, and the water is messy. We're looking at weak combined swell energy, values like 71, 61, even dropping down into the teens. The swell is all short-period windswell, under 8 seconds, so it's just disorganized and bumpy.
The water temp is a whopping 68°F, which is 10°F warmer than normal. That’s way, way hotter than it should be for this time of year – feels like we’re in a bath, but the surf is a total washout.
There’s a little pulse of energy on the morning of Sunday the 19th, with combined energy hitting 163 and a cross-offshore wind (NNW at 22 mph) that cleans it up, but the swell is still only 4 ft from the NNE with a short 8-second period. The surf quality is still marked poor. It’s not worth paddling out for.
The second week, from the 21st to the 29th, is even worse. The swell drops to practically nothing, often under 2 ft, with combined energy values as low as 1 or 2. There are a few morning windows on the 24th, 25th, and 26th with a light cross-offshore or clean wind, but the swell is basically flat – 3 ft, 1 ft, 0.7 ft. It’s a blank run. The lack of quality is pretty normal for Mablethorpe when we get these long, quiet spells. The whole period is a write-off for paddle surfing; the winds and tiny chop suggest this setup might be more interesting for kite surfing than anything else.
No standouts here, folks. Keep the board in the car and wait for a better forecast.
Rusty.
