G’day, Rusty here. I’ve had a good look at what’s on offer for Mablethorpe over the next couple of weeks, and I gotta be straight with you—it’s a tough run. The swell just doesn’t show up with any real grunt, and most days you’re looking at tiny, weak surf that’s barely worth paddling for. The water temp is sitting at a very unusual 67°, which is far warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t need a thick suit.
The whole 16-day forecast period is basically a write-off for decent waves. There’s a long gap of nothing rideable from the start, and even the few sessions that pop up are well under 3 ft. The first real chance comes on Sunday, July 6th, when we get a tiny 0.7 ft swell from the north with a short 5-second period and weak energy (2). The wind is offshore from the west at 15 mph on Monday morning, keeping the surface clean, but the wave height is so small you’d be struggling to do much more than float. That clean offshore wind is a nice touch, but there’s just no power behind it.
Tuesday, July 7th is similar—0.7 ft from the north, period up to 7 seconds, still with clean offshore or cross-off winds. The energy stays very weak (6). Honestly, even for a beginner spot, you’re chasing knee-high ripples at best.
Later in the week, on Wednesday, July 8th, the swell bumps up to 1 ft from the north with a weak 6-second period, and the wind swings cross-shore from the north at 6 mph. It’s clean, but the energy is still only 11. There’s a bit more activity around Saturday, July 12th, when we see 2 ft to 3 ft from the northeast with a short 4 to 5-second period and moderate energy (32 at best). The wind is cross-onshore though, so expect choppy, messy conditions. Not a standout by any stretch.
The best of a bad bunch is probably Monday afternoon, July 13th, when we get 2 ft from the north-northeast with a 7-second period and the highest combined energy of the entire forecast at 80 (moderate wave energy). It’s still cross-onshore and choppy, but if you’re desperate, that’s the most push you’ll feel. Still, only for beginners who just want to get wet, and even then, it’s not good.
After that, it drops back to tiny or flat conditions for the second week. The period from July 19th onwards is essentially flat, with no swell recorded and zero energy. Mablethorpe is an inconsistent break, and this stretch is a classic example of that blank run. For a spot like this, it’s normal to have long periods with no real surf. The short-period, weak swell and mostly onshore or cross-onshore winds mean this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Stay patient, mate. It won’t stay poor forever.
Rusty.
