The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’.
Honestly, I gotta be straight with ya – the next 16 days are looking pretty flat for us. There’s a real big gap of nothing happening. From the start of the period on the 17th of July, right through to the 26th of July, there’s barely a ripple to get excited about. We’re talking about a solid 9 days with almost no swell to speak of.
The first real sign of life shows up on the morning of Sunday the 26th of July. We get a tiny 1ft SSW swell sneaking in, with a period of just 4 seconds. It’s short-period stuff, not much push. The wind is offshore from the NE at 15 km/h, which would keep it clean, but the combined energy is only (6) – that’s weak. The water temp is a staggering 79°, which is a whopping 9° warmer than usual for this time of year. It’s like bathwater out there, very unusual.
Nothing really stands out as a solid option, but the best chance to get wet would be Les Roquilles on the morning of the 27th of July. The swell picks up a bit to 4ft, but it’s coming from the WNW with a short period of 5 seconds. The combined energy hits (103) – that’s at least moderate now. Problem is, the wind is a cross-shore from the WNW at 30 km/h, which is a fresh breeze. That’s gonna make things lumpy and choppy. It’s not pretty, but it’s the only time we see any real size. A short period 4ft swell with cross-chop is more of a messy, blown-out affair. For a beginner spot that’s inconsistent and often crowded, this is a pass.
The rest of the week into early August shows a few pulses of 2ft to 3ft swell, but with poor wind directions and low energy, it’s all poor surf conditions. The afternoon of the 31st of July has a clean 2ft SW swell with light NW winds, but the energy is only (11). It’s a weak little wave.
Bottom line: there’s nothing on the table that’s worth paddling out for. It’s a long, flat spell. We’ll have to hope the forecasts change, because right now, it’s a dry spell.
Rusty.
