Table - best surf conditions forecast for Lacanau Ocean over the next 16 days.
Alright, let's get into it. This Lacanau region looks like a tough run of small, average surf for a while. The water is sitting at 73° now, which feels much warmer than normal for the time of year. That's a real standout.
We start off on July 9th, Thursday morning, with a tiny 2ft WNW groundswell. The period is a short 10 seconds, so not much push, but the big win here is glassy offshore wind. The energy is weak (74), and the waves are surfable but nothing special. That glassy window is your best bet for a clean cruise on the longboard, but don't expect any power. Thursday afternoon goes to crap with a cross-onshore breeze chopping it up.
Friday and Saturday are more of the same – small, weak, and mostly messy. Saturday morning on July 11th goes glassy again with 2ft waves and still poor energy (99). It's clean, but it's limp. Sunday morning the 12th has clean cross-offshore wind, but it's on a pathetic 2ft swell.
The whole first week is a write-off for any decent push. We’ve got a long stretch of days with nothing to recommend. Then, on July 20th (Monday morning), things get a flicker of life. Swell climbs to 4ft with a poor 7-second period, but it's glassy. The energy climbs to moderate at 145. It's still just surfable, though – not good.
The only real standout worth highlighting is July 22nd (Wednesday morning). The swell jumps to 5ft from the WNW, with combined energy hitting a moderate 219. That's the biggest, most energetic swell of the entire run. Problem is, the wind is onshore and strong at 12 mph from the WNW. This is a beach break setup, and with onshore wind and 5ft waves, it’s going to be a messy, lumpy mess. Honestly, with that wind and the beach break nature, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. This one is really only for the keen, experienced local who knows the banks.
July 24th (Friday) shows the biggest numbers – 7ft swell and massive energy (520) – but again, it's hammered by a strong cross-onshore wind. Ripped and choppy, only for experts who can handle a beating.
In short, the first week-and-a-half is flat and weak. The second week brings some size but with poor wind. There are no good surf options in this 16-day window. Keep an eye on it, though; forecasts can change.
