Table - best surf conditions forecast for Lacanau Ocean over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s ahead for Lacanau Ocean. Gotta be straight with you – this 16-day window is a tough one. We’re looking at a long stretch of days where the surf is just not cooperating. The wind is messy, the swell is small, and honestly, there’s nothing here that gets me excited.
We start off with a real flat spell. From Thursday, 9 July, right through to the weekend, you’re looking at ankle-biters. The swell is tiny, mostly around 2ft to 2ft from the WNW, and the wind is all over the place – cross-on, onshore, you name it. The energy is weak, barely registering 50 to 90 (74 to 98) on the energy scale. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no major surprises there. But it’s just not worth paddling out for.
The only glimmer in this whole outlook falls on Sunday, 12 July. The morning session sees a little pulse of WNW swell at 2ft with a period of 9 seconds. Now, the wind is light and cross-offshore from the ESE at 6 mph, which is a huge plus. The report calls it “clean” and it’s the only time we get a score of 1 out of 10. It’s still tiny, but if you’re desperate for a slide, this is it. The crowd factor is “sometimes” here, so you might see a few others out. The energy is weak (49), so don’t expect much push.
After that, the outlook turns grim again. Monday through the rest of the week, the swell stays under 3ft, wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, and the energy is weak. The period is short, under 7 seconds, meaning the waves will be mushy and weak. Even the longer-range stuff around 21 and 22 July won’t save us. The wind picks up to 15-22 mph onshore, making a mess of things. The swell energy finally climbs to 117 on the 21st, but with a period of 7 seconds and onshore gales, that’s going to be a washing machine, not a surfable wave. It would be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing at that point.
So, the standout is clear: Sunday morning, 12 July. It’s the only time things line up even a little. It’s small, it’s clean, and it’s your best bet. For the rest of this 16-day run, we’re staring at a blank run. But don’t lose hope – it tends not to stay this poor for long, and forecasts can change.
Rusty.
