Table - best surf conditions forecast for Lacanau Ocean over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer.
Honestly, it’s a tough outlook for Lacanau-Ocean. We’re looking at a long stretch of mostly messy, onshore, and very small conditions over the next fortnight. There are no real standouts, but let’s break down the best you can hope for.
The water here is sitting at 73°F, which is a massive 5°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s really unusual for July, so at least you won’t need a thick wetsuit.
This first week is grim. The first surfable moment doesn’t arrive until the morning of Saturday 11 July. The swell is tiny at 2ft from the WNW, but the wind goes glassy. That’s the first hint of something rideable, but with a combined swell energy of only 70, it’s going to be weak and small. Just longboard slop, really.
Sunday 12 July morning offers the next window offshore wind from the east, with 2ft WNW swell (energy 53). Again, it’s clean, but there’s no power behind it. A fun little session for a log or a foamie, but nothing to get excited about.
The surf picks up a fraction into the next week, but the wind stays junk. By Friday 17 July, we see the biggest swell of the window – 4ft from the west, period a short 7 seconds – but it’s blown out by onshore wind. The combined energy hits 124 (moderate), but with direct onshores, it’s going to be a messy wall of closeouts. This setup is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Things quieten right down again. The only other clean shot is the morning of Monday 20 July. Another glassy morning with 3ft WNW swell (68 energy), but the swell period is only 5 seconds, super weak and short-period slop.
Bottom line: there’s a solid 10-day gap early on with no real surf, and the whole 16 days are a real struggle. A consistent spot like Lacanau-Ocean won’t stay this flat for long, but right now, it’s a waiting game.
Stay patient.
