Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the next couple of weeks at Seignosse - Les Estagnots.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a slow start. The first proper surf window we see is on Saturday morning, July 4th. There’s a 4ft swell rolling in from the WNW with a period of 10 seconds, packing moderate energy (261). But the wind is onshore from the WNW at just 3 mph, and the wave comment tells us it’s marginal surf with questionable tide conditions. Not exactly something to get out of bed early for. That afternoon, the wind swings NNW at 9 mph and goes cross-on, making a mess of things with a score of zero.
Sunday morning, July 5th, looks a little more interesting despite the smaller swell. We’ve got 2ft from the WNW, still 10 seconds, energy down to 145, but the wind is glassy – zero from the NE. It says “surfable but very ordinary,” but that clean, glassy surface is a major positive. I’d say it’s worth a dawny if you’re jonesing. By afternoon, the wind comes up from the north at 9 mph and goes cross, stirring up chop – so that window is short.
Monday morning, July 6th, brings a shift: 2ft from the NW at 9 seconds, weak energy (73), but the wind is offshore from the ENE at 3 mph. Clean conditions, small but surfable. Again, the afternoon gets ruined by 9 mph cross-winds.
Then we hit a dry spell. From Tuesday July 7th through to Sunday July 12th, it’s mostly onshore wind, tiny waves, and poor conditions. There’s a brief moment on Sunday July 12th afternoon where the swell bumps up to 4ft from the NW at 10 seconds, with moderate energy (221), but the wind is cross-on from the NW at 9 mph, and it’s still scored as poor. Frustrating.
Monday July 13th and Tuesday July 14th morning are perhaps the best of a rough bunch. Monday sees 4ft from the WNW (264 energy), but it’s blown out with 12 mph onshore winds. Tuesday morning, July 14th, though – that’s a standout. We’ve got 4ft from the NW at 8 seconds (moderate energy at 163), with clean, offshore wind from the east at just 3 mph. The “surfable but very ordinary” comment is a bit of a downer, but that offshore breeze will make the most of it. The swell period is short, so it’ll be a bit weaker and more jumbled, but for a mid-week session, it’s the best you’ll get in this outlook.
After Tuesday, it’s back to small, onshore slop for several days. There’s a small flicker on Friday July 17th morning with 3ft from the west at a very short 6 seconds (weak energy at 76), but it’s glassy with NE wind at 3 mph – clean, tiny, and short-period. Saturday July 18th morning is similarly glassy and clean but even smaller (2ft, 5 seconds). Sunday July 19th morning offers 2ft from the WNW at 8 seconds, with a light cross-offshore breeze from the NNE, giving clean conditions again, but it’s still weak.
Truth is, this is a tough 16-day stretch. The standout is Tuesday morning July 14th for the clean offshore conditions and a bit of push. After that, it’s all about the early morning glass-offs on the 17th and 18th for a tiny, clean knee-high slide. If you’re an expert only, the bigger days (Monday 13th, Sunday 12th afternoon) are blown out and choppy – more of a kite-surfing show than a paddle-in session.
Stay patient, keep an eye on the charts, and grab those glassy dawn slots when they come.
Rusty.
