Alright, let’s take a look at what’s on offer for Seignosse - Les Estagnots over the next couple weeks.
Honestly, it’s a tough start right now. The first few days are barely worth paddling out for – Tuesday through to Thursday next week is all tiny, sloppy, onshore junk. Swell is a miserable 1 ft to 3 ft with weak energy (47 to 117), winds are either on or cross-on, and the best you’ll get is a light breeze and small ripples. Friday the 10th isn’t much better, still onshore and messy.
Now, there’s a small window of hope on Saturday the 11th morning. We get a clean offshore from the ESE, light breeze, and waist-high 2 ft swell from WNW with period around 9 seconds. Energy sits at 106 – not powerful but clean. It’s surfable but ordinary. The water temperature is 73°, which is much warmer than normal for this area – more than 2° above average, so that’s a noticeable difference. The break is rated expert, and it’s consistent and exposed to the west. Crowds are often there, so don’t expect to have it to yourself.
Then Sunday the 12th morning brings another good-looking window – glassy conditions with a light SW breeze, again 2 ft WNW swell, period 10 seconds and wave energy at 102. That’s clean, but still small. If you’re a beginner? This is safe, but weak.
After that, from Sunday afternoon right through to Saturday the 19th, it’s pretty much a write-off. We’re talking days of onshore winds, tiny waves, and cross-on chop. There’s a gap of about a week with no real recommendations – just poor surf conditions across the board. The energy drops as low as 12 at times. It’s bleak.
Now, something changes around Monday the 20th. We start seeing a bigger pulse of swell pushing in, but the wind is still onshore – westerly at 12-19 mph. The morning of the 20th has 3 ft WNW swell at 8 seconds with 107 energy, but it’s messy. By the afternoon, the swell jumps to 5 ft with energy going all the way up to 228. That’s moderate-strong energy for sure. Period is only 7 seconds though, so it’s windswell, bumpy. The break is exposed, so it’s gonna be a rough, chunky day. Better for experienced surfers only, and honestly, with that wind, it’s more interesting for kite surfing than paddling.
Tuesday the 21st still has 4 ft swell from WNW, but the wind remains cross-onshore and the wave quality is poor. Energy is still moderate at 120-149.
Finally, Wednesday the 22nd morning offers one last bright spot. It’s glassy again, light SE breeze, and 3 ft NW swell with period around 6 seconds. Energy is only 64, but the clean conditions and cross-offshore NW wind make it rideable. Again, nothing special, but after a tough run, it’s a nice way to finish the outlook.
So to sum it up: the only real standouts are Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th mornings for clean, small waves. The bigger swell around the 20th and 21st has energy but gets ruined by wind. The rest is flat or junky. Les Estagnots is an exposed, expert-level spot, so expect crowds when it’s clean, and don’t expect much if you’re just starting out – when it gets over 5 ft, that’s expert territory.
