The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.

First off, I gotta be straight with you – this ain’t one of those epic stretches. For the whole 16-day window, we’re lookin’ at a pretty lean run. The first few days are basically a write-off, with tiny swell and crummy conditions. It’s not until the afternoon of Saturday the 8th that we even see a score of 1, and even then, it’s just “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” So, we’ve got a solid gap of nearly a week from the start with no real surf to speak of. The energy is weak, with combined swell energy readings mostly in the low double digits. The water’s a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sittin’ around 85° on the Monday morning we do have a reading.

The only spot on the menu is Las Bovedas, a point break that’s fairly consistent. The optimum swell direction is from the SSW, but we’re stuck with tiny S swells the whole time. The swell heights barely get above 1 ft, so it’s nothin’ to get excited about. The period is a mixed bag – sometimes short and weak, other times longer, like the 18-second period on Friday the 7th, but with only 0.7 ft of swell, that’s just a long-period ripple. It’s too small to do anything with.

The wind is often offshore, especially from the NW, which is a positive, but with such tiny waves, it’s a case of polishin’ a turd. The afternoon of Saturday the 8th sees a combined energy of 107 – that’s the highest in the whole window – with a 1 ft S swell and a 16-second period, and the wind is NW offshore at 9 mph. That’s the best it’s gonna get, but honestly, it’s still just knee-high slop. Crowds are often at this spot, so you might have company for that tiny wave.

There’s no standout here. The best call is that Saturday the 8th afternoon, but even then, it’s barely a ripple. The rest of the window is full of “poor surf conditions” with nothing to recommend. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s your window, but don’t expect much.

Rusty.
