The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break down Panama La Vieja in feet and Fahrenheit.

Honestly, it’s a flat spell. The surf is tiny and ordinary, more of a float than a ride. Water temp is about 85°, pretty normal for the season.

Starting Monday August 10th, we got a 0.7ft south swell, 13-second period, combined energy only 20—real weak. Tuesday and Wednesday keep the same tiny 0.7ft to 1ft south swell, energy in the 50s and 60s. Mornings are glassy or light offshore, so it’s clean, but you’re not gonna get a wave worth talkin’ about.

Thursday the 13th through Sunday the 16th are all similar—0.7ft to 1ft, long periods, energy never breaks 90. The first week is a bust.

Here’s your best shot: Tuesday the 18th afternoon. Swell bumps to 1ft from the SSW, 14-second period, combined energy hits 127—moderate energy finally. Winds are light offshore and clean. That’s the one window where the direction matches what this break wants. Still small, but it’s your standout.

After that, it’s back to tiny surf through the 25th—0.7ft to 2ft, energy mostly under 50. Nothing else stands out. The gap after the 18th is a long dry stretch.

So, if you’re gonna paddle out, make it Tuesday the 18th afternoon. Otherwise, save the wax.

Rusty.
