The Lowdown
Alright crew, this is Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Silva Island-Nestles.
Honestly, for a solid stretch here, it’s pretty quiet. We’ve got a long gap of small, weak surf with very ordinary conditions. The first real standout is a ways off, so patience is the name of the game.
We start off Sunday, 13th of September, with tiny 1ft swell from the SW, period at 13 seconds. The water is sitting at a warm 86°, which is about 4° warmer than usual for this time of year – you’ll feel that difference. The surf is there but it’s barely a ripple.
Monday the 14th through Friday the 18th sees nothing above 2ft. The wind does go glassy at times, especially on the mornings of the 17th and 18th, but the wave energy is weak (combined energy in the 71-112 range). It’s surfable but not worth rushing for.
The weekend of the 19th and 20th is similar, with the swell dropping back to 0.7ft to 1ft. Monday the 21st has a glassy morning with 2ft SW swell (18 second period), and the combined energy climbs a bit to 199, but it’s still very small and weak.
Now, here’s the one to circle. The 26th of September. Saturday morning, we get a bump to 4ft from the SW, period at 8 seconds. Winds go glassy, and the combined energy jumps to a moderate 234. The afternoon holds with 4ft and glassy conditions again, energy up to 282 – this is the pick of the whole window. It’s not huge, but it’s clean, and it’s the best we’re going to see. Sunday the 27th morning also looks good with 3ft WSW swell, dead calm wind, energy at 215, but the afternoon gets a cross-onshore breeze that spoils it.
Because the swell stays under 5ft for the whole forecast, this is fine for all abilities. The longer-period swells (13-19 seconds) early on will have longer gaps between sets, but the breaks at this reef setup will handle them alright. Crowds are possible here, so on that Saturday the 26th, you might have some company.
So for the next week and a bit, it’s a waiting game. The standout is definitely Saturday the 26th of September – that’s your window.
