The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Lagide over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with you – the next week or so is gonna test your patience. There’s a real flat spell coming in, and for the first few days, there’s not much to get excited about. The surf is small, the winds are messy, and the conditions are just ordinary. We’ve got a few days of this average stuff before anything worth paddling out for shows up.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Sunday the 28th of August. That morning, we see a pulse of swell from the NW at 7ft, with a period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is a solid 1009 – that’s moderate to strong. The wind is light from the NNW, which is onshore, but it’s only a light breeze. Then it gets real interesting that afternoon: the swell bumps up to 8ft from the NW, period jumps to 11 seconds, and the energy skyrockets to 1718. That’s some serious power. But here’s the catch – the wind swings cross-onshore, which will chop it up a bit. This one is for the advanced crew only; 8ft is no joke for beginners. It’s a solid, powerful groundswell (11-second period) that’ll be better suited to the reef and point setups. The break is Lagide, a beach and reef setup, and it’s fairly exposed to the swell from the NNW, which is the optimum direction. Crowds are likely here, so expect company.
The following morning, Monday the 29th of August, still has some size from the NW at 6ft, but the wind is onshore from the N at 15 mph, so it’s gonna be a messy one. Not the pick.
Then we hit a bit of a gap again. The next few days are mostly small, onshore, and poor. Monday the 31st of August morning offers a tiny window of hope – the wind goes glassy, with a 4ft NW swell at 8 seconds. It’s surfable, but it’s pretty ordinary. The energy is weak (164).
After that, it’s a long stretch of poor conditions. From the 1st of September right through to the 6th, we’ve got consistent onshore winds and small, weak swells. It’s a proper blank run. The water temperature is sitting at 67°F, which is about 2°F colder than usual for this time of year – a bit nippy, but nothing too wild.
The standout? Without a doubt, Sunday the 28th of August afternoon. That 8ft NW swell with the 11-second period has the most energy of the whole forecast. It’s a powerful, clean-ish window, but it’s only for the experienced. If you’re a beginner, stay on the beach that day.
The other decent call is the Sunday the 28th of August morning session – 7ft from the NW, lighter winds. It’s a bit smaller, but cleaner.
Apart from that, it’s a waiting game. The long-range stuff around the 6th of September looks like a tease – long-period groundswell (11 seconds) but tiny (3ft). Not worth the drive.
Stay patient, keep an eye on the charts, and I’ll catch you next time.
