Table - best surf conditions forecast for La Boya over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what La Boya's got coming our way over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it's a bit of a tough stretch ahead. We're looking at a long, dry spell with hardly anything worth paddling out for. The problem is the wind. For day after day, it's blowing from the east and southeast, right into the face of this south-facing reef break, so the surface is just chopped up and messy. The swell is hanging around in that 4 ft to 6 ft range, mostly from the ESE or SE, with a short period of 6 to 8 seconds, meaning it’s weak and disorganized. The wave energy will fluctuate, but it rarely gets strong enough to overcome that wind. From Saturday the 11th of July all the way through to Saturday the 25th of July, every session is marked as poor. That’s a full two weeks of tough conditions.
Now, we finally get a glimmer of hope on the morning of Sunday the 19th of July. The wind finally drops to a light ESE breeze, making it a cross-offshore. The swell is a small 4 ft from the ESE with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy is 208 (moderate). The report calls it marginal, but with that wind laying down the surface, it might be the only window for a grovelly session. It’s not going to be epic, but it's the best on offer in this run.
Then, things get a bit more interesting but also more dangerous. On Monday the 20th of July, the swell bumps up to 6 ft from the ESE, and the energy jumps to 680 (strong), but it’s still accompanied by onshore winds at 16 mph, so it’s junk. Still, that extra size is a tease.
The next morning, Tuesday the 21st of July, has clean wind again – an easterly breeze at 9 mph – but the swell drops back to 4 ft, so it’s weak again.
Looking further out, Sunday the 26th of July, the swell is getting some size, with 5 ft-6 ft and energy climbing to 338-774, but again, the onshore wind is the killer. This pattern just keeps repeating itself. Honestly, unless you’re a die-hard looking for a choppy paddle, the whole setup looks more interesting for kite-surfing than surfing for the vast majority of the run.
So, the real talk? If you're itching for a surf, your best bet is the morning of Sunday the 19th, and maybe Tuesday the 21st, but it's going to be small. For the rest of it, it's a waiting game.
Rusty.
