The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we're looking at a bit of a slow start. The first real swell worth mentioning arrives on Saturday the 19th of July, but the conditions are pretty average. The water temperature is sitting at 65°, which is about normal for this time of year, so nothing unusual there.
The standout window is definitely Monday the 20th of July. The morning is looking like the pick of the entire forecast. We've got a clean 6 ft easterly swell rolling in, with a nice long 11-second period. The real winner here is the glassy conditions, with a light westerly offshore wind. That's a recipe for some clean, fun waves. The combined energy is moderate (807), so there's a bit of push behind it. This is a good one for the intermediate crew, as it's not too big, but it's got enough grunt to be fun. Just a heads up, Kiddies Corner can get a bit busy, so expect some company.
Monday afternoon sees the wind swing around, making it a bit choppier, so stick to the morning session.
The next real highlight is a bigger pulse of south swell arriving on Thursday the 24th of July. The morning of Friday the 24th is looking even better. We’ve got a solid 7 ft south swell with a 10-second period, and it’s a clean offshore wind from the west-southwest. The combined energy is strong (852), so this is a more powerful wave. This one is for the experienced crew; 7 ft is pushing into expert territory, so it’s not for the faint-hearted.
After that, the swell tails off. There’s a brief window on Saturday the 26th of July morning with a smaller 3 ft south swell and clean conditions, but it’s really just a shadow of what came before.
The forecast goes quiet for a good stretch after that. We’re looking at several days of pretty small or poor conditions, before a bit of a bump shows up around the 30th of July. The morning of the 30th of July has a 4 ft south-southwest swell with clean winds, but it’s a short-period 6-second swell, so it won’t have much shape. Then on the 2nd of August, the afternoon session shows a 3 ft east-southeast swell with light cross-offshore winds, which is a decent little end to the run.
So, the best call? Get out on Monday the 20th of July morning for the cleanest, most fun waves. For the bigger, more powerful stuff, Friday the 24th of July morning is your window, but know your limits.
Rusty.
