The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty, and here’s the outlook for Kiddies Corner over the next sixteen days.
We start off on Wednesday morning, July 15, with a solid 7ft S swell at 9 seconds, but it’s a bit of a mess with a cross-off wind blowing 25 km/h. The combined energy is moderate at 724, and the conditions are only marginal. That afternoon, the swell bumps up to 8ft from the south, period 10 seconds, and energy jumps to 1212 (moderate-strong), but that same SSW wind keeps things cross-off and messy—still a marginal call. Thursday, July 16, brings more south swell at 7ft and 7ft, but the wind screams 30 km/h and then 25 km/h, turning it into a full on cross-off and cross mess. Scores are zero both sessions. Friday, the swell drops to 3ft, short period at 6 seconds, and the wind is light but cross or cross-on—no good. The weekend of July 18-19 sees small, choppy easterly swell with cross-on winds, poor conditions all around.
Now, Monday July 20 is the real standout. The morning has a 6ft ENE swell at 10 seconds with glassy conditions—dead calm, 5 km/h wind from the south. That’s clean, beautiful surf. The combined energy is 680 (moderate), and the wave comment says “expect very good surf conditions.” This is the best on offer. The break is fairly consistent, but crowds are often here, so expect company. The water temperature is about average for this time of year.
Tuesday July 21 morning is still decent: 4ft ENE swell at 10 seconds, a light cross-off from the NW at 5 km/h, clean. Energy is 393 (moderate). The afternoon turns poor with onshore wind. Wednesday July 22 morning is clean again with a 4ft ENE swell, offshore wind from the WSW at 10 km/h—nice little session. Thursday July 23 morning repeats that with 3ft, offshore wind, clean.
Then we hit a rough patch. Friday July 24 through Monday July 27 is mostly poor, with small, choppy, or cross-on conditions. The swell is 2ft to 6ft, but the wind is all wrong. Not worth paddling out.
Things lift again on Tuesday July 28 morning—a 5ft S swell at 10 seconds, clean with a cross-off from the SW at 15 km/h. Energy is 490 (moderate). That’s a solid session. Wednesday July 29 is small and crossed up, but Thursday July 30 morning has a 3ft S swell at 9 seconds, light cross-off from the WSW, clean—another good little window.
So, the top pick is Monday July 20 morning—glassy, clean, 6ft ENE swell. Get out there early before the crowds pile in. The other good ones are the Tuesday July 28 morning and Thursday July 30 morning.
Rusty.
