Table - best surf conditions forecast for Kiddies Corner over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s have a look at what’s on the menu for the next couple of weeks. This is for the corner here.
Right now, things are starting off slow, but we’ve got a solid little window of swell coming up. The first real action kicks off on Wednesday the 8th of July, but it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Kiddies Corner is the only spot in the frame, and it’s a beginner-friendly, fairly consistent break that’s exposed to the swell and picks up the best energy from the southeast.
Wednesday the 8th of July is a bit of a write-off, to be honest. We’ve got a 8ft southeast swell, but the wind is a cross-shore at 12 mph and there’s rain showers. The combined wave energy is strong at 1567, but with the wind and chop, it’s not going to be pretty. The water temp is 66°, right where you’d expect it for this time of year, nothing weird going on.
Thursday the 9th of July is where you want to be. The swell drops to a much more manageable 6ft, also from the southeast. The wind swings light from the southwest at only 3 mph, giving us a clean, cross-offshore breeze. The wave energy is still solid at 752. The report says “expect very good surf conditions,” and the morning is the pick. This is the standout of the whole outlook – clean, solid lines for a beginner-friendly wave. It’s not too big, not too small.
Friday the 10th holds similar 5ft to 6ft swell from the southeast, with light winds in the morning keeping it clean. The wave energy calms a bit to 466-582, but it’s still surfable. The morning is your best bet before the wind turns a little cross-onshore in the afternoon.
Saturday the 11th sees a drop in swell, down to around 4ft in the morning and 3ft in the afternoon. The morning has a clean cross-offshore breeze, so it’ll be a good session for a longboard or a fun board, just not as much grunt as previous days.
Then we hit a real lull. From Sunday the 12th of July through to Tuesday the 14th, the swell drops right off – 2ft, then 2ft, down to 1.0ft. The wind is offshore or cross-offshore, but there’s simply no energy. The wave energy readings are low (down to 18). It’s a flat spell, no good surf to speak of.
Wednesday the 15th shows a little pulse of 3ft south swell in the morning, but it’s weak. The afternoon jumps to a 8ft south swell, but the period is only 7 seconds (short period, messy) and the wind is cross-onshore. Not great.
Then, from Thursday the 16th all the way through Monday the 20th, we get a run of bigger swell – 7ft to 10ft – but it’s all accompanied by strong, onshore winds from the south and southeast, with rain and thunderstorms. The wave energy is high (up to 1397), but with that wind, it’s going to be a choppy, blown-out mess. This is not paddle surfing weather for this spot; with that much wind and swell on a beach setup, kitesurfers might have a field day, but for the rest of us, it’s a skip.
Tuesday the 21st of July is a real surprise. The swell drops to a clean 5ft from the southeast, period a nice 11 seconds, and the morning is glassy – no wind at all. The wave energy is 504. The report says “expect very good surf conditions.” This is the other standout. It’s a week and a half out, so long-range, but if it holds, that Tuesday morning will be magic. Clean, long-period groundswell, perfect for this spot.
After that, Wednesday the 22nd morning has a small 3ft southeast swell with offshore wind, but it’s weak. The afternoon is glassy with a 3ft easterly swell – better for a cruise than a thrill. Thursday the 23rd fades into small weak junk.
So, the real highlights are Thursday the 9th of July morning and Tuesday the 21st of July morning. The 9th is a sure thing, close and clean. The 21st is the long-range promise – if it comes together, it’ll be worth the wait. The rest is either flat or blown out. Keep an eye on that Tuesday.
