Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Kiddies Corner.
First up, the water temp is sitting right around average for this time of year, so nothing wild there - just your usual summer feel.
Okay, the week ahead is a bit of a mixed bag, and honestly, the first few days aren’t going to get the heart pumping. We’ve got a decent amount of south-southeast swell pushing in, but the wind is a problem. Monday is a write-off with cross-onshore winds and choppy conditions. The swell is 8ft with a combined energy of 1442 - that's a lot of water moving - but it's messy. Tuesday sees a bigger jump to 10ft (energy up to 4323), and the wind goes cross-offshore in the morning, which cleans it up nicely. But here’s the thing: for a beginner-friendly spot like Kiddies Corner, 10ft is way too big. That’s expert territory. So we gotta skip that.
The real standout, the one worth circling on the calendar, is Thursday, July 9th. The morning session is looking prime. The swell drops to a more manageable 7ft from the southeast, period at 10 seconds, and the wind swings light cross-offshore, making it clean. The energy is a moderate 837, so it’s got some push without being a monster. For a fairly consistent break like this, that Thursday morning is the best on offer.
Friday morning (July 10th) is also a solid option with 6ft and clean conditions, but it’s not quite the standout Thursday is.
Now, looking further out, there’s a gap. After Saturday the 11th morning, things go flat. We’re talking several days of tiny, weak surf through the middle of the month. The 14th and 15th see a little bump from the south, but it’s small – 4ft at best – and the energy is low. Not much to write home about.
But hold on. The long-range forecast has something interesting. Thursday, July 16th afternoon kicks off a serious pulse of south swell, hitting 10ft by the afternoon, and it’s clean. But again, that’s too big for this spot. Then Friday, July 17th gets properly wild – 16ft from the south with a 13-second period and energy reading 13410. That’s massive, powerful groundswell. Kiddies Corner will be a washing machine, not a surf break. That’s for the experts on a different coast, or frankly, kite surfers.
The real long-range gem is Saturday, July 18th morning. The swell drops to a lovely 6ft from the south-southeast, and the wind goes glassy. Completely clean. Energy is a moderate 887. That’s a beautiful morning for a paddle, and it’s the other standout in the whole 16-day window. Tuesday, July 21st morning also looks promising with 6ft and offshore wind, but it’s a shorter period swell at 7 seconds, so the waves might be a bit weaker and less organized.
So, to sum it up: your best bets are Thursday morning, July 9th, and Saturday morning, July 18th. Both are clean, the right size, and should offer the best waves for the average surfer at Kiddies Corner. The rest is either too small, too windy, or too big for this break.
Keep your eyes on that 18th, though. It’s a few weeks out, but it looks promising.
Rusty.
