The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's coming down the pipe for Kiddies Corner.
The next 16 days have some real potential, but it’s a story of patience. We’ve got a bit of a wait for the main event, with a couple of windows for a paddle, but let’s be honest, there’s one clear standout session you’ll want to circle on the calendar.
Right off the bat, Saturday and Sunday this week are pretty flat. Nothing worth getting wet for. Monday and Tuesday don't look much better, with small, weak swell and messy winds.
Now, Wednesday the 26th of August morning is where the magic is. This is our first real standout. We’re looking at a solid 6ft swell pumping in from the northeast, with the combined wave energy reading a strong 575. That means there’s some proper push behind it. The wind is light and offshore from the west-northwest, which will have Kiddies Corner looking super clean. For a beginner-friendly spot, this is about as good as it gets. The swell direction from the northeast is a little off the optimum southeast, but the combination of clean conditions and a size that’s manageable makes this the session to aim for. Thursday and Friday are smaller and a bit messy, but the glassy wind on Friday morning (28th) might still offer up a fun little 3ft wave for the early birds.
The next big date to have your eye on is Tuesday the 1st of September. The afternoon session sees the swell building, with a clean 6ft from the south-southeast. The combined wave energy is up to 394, so there’s good power. The wind is light and cross-off from the northwest, so the lines should be steep and clean. This is a solid secondary option if you missed the Wednesday morning.
Now, we have to talk about Friday the 4th of September. The forecast is showing a massive 10ft swell from the south-southeast. That’s huge energy, over 1000 on the scale. But here’s the thing – that’s way too big for Kiddies Corner. It’s an expert-only proposition and honestly, the setup looks more interesting for a kite session than a paddle. Save the board for another day on that one.
We get another small window on Sunday the 6th of September morning with a clean 4ft from the east. It’s not a classic day, but if you’re desperate, the surface will be good.
So to sum it up: the surf is slim for the next few days, but it builds nicely. The clear standout is Wednesday the 26th of August morning, with a solid, clean swell. The backup plan is Tuesday the 1st of September afternoon. Don’t even think about Friday the 4th unless you’re on a tow-in setup.
Rusty.
