G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you—this 16-day window for Ingrina is a tough one. There’s no real surf to get excited about, and the whole period is a bit of a flat spell. We’re looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak waves that just aren’t gonna get the heart pumping. The only consistent theme is that the wind is often offshore or cross-off, which keeps the water surface clean, but with nothing to push around, it’s a bit of a tease.
The first real chance of anything even worth mentioning kicks off on Thursday morning, 9 July, but it’s a pathetic 0.3 ft swell from the west, with a period of 7 seconds and combined energy of just 1. That’s not surf, that’s a ripple. The wind is a cross-off 16 mph, so it’s clean, but you’d be sliding around on a lake. That afternoon and most of Friday are the same story—zero energy.
We get a tiny bump on Friday afternoon, 10 July, with a 0.3 ft swell from the south, but the period jumps to 16 seconds, which is a long-period groundswell. The energy is still only 5, so it’s weak. Long-period swells at a sheltered reef like Ingrina can sometimes wrap in with a bit of shape, but 0.3 ft is just not enough to break. It’s a promise of something that never arrives.
Saturday morning, 11 July is a complete write-off, and the afternoon sees a 1.0 ft swell from the west-southwest with a period of 6 seconds—short, weak, and combined energy of 6. Still not worth paddling out for.
Sunday morning, 12 July gives us a glassy surface with a slight air, but the swell is 0.3 ft from the southwest with a 19-second period (very long period). Combined energy only 15. That long period might make it look like a straight line at the reef, but with no height, it’s a non-event. The afternoon is cross-shore and choppy, with the same tiny swell.
The pattern continues all the way through to Thursday, 24 July. We see occasional 0.3 ft to 1.0 ft swells, mostly from the south or west, with periods ranging from 7 to 19 seconds. The combined energy never gets above 19, which is weak. The winds are often offshore (N to NNW), which is great for clean conditions, but there’s simply no wave height to work with. The water temperature anomaly is average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The best of a bad lot is probably Sunday morning, 12 July, with that glassy conditions and a 0.3 ft, 19-second period swell. Or maybe Saturday morning, 18 July, when we get a 1.0 ft swell from the west with a 7-second period and offshore 12 mph winds. But mate, 1.0 ft is ankle-deep at best. It’s a very inconsistent spot, and this period is a classic blank run for Ingrina. The forecasts can change, but right now, I’d leave the board at home.
Rusty.
