Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – it’s a grim outlook for the next couple of weeks. We’re looking at Ingrina, a sheltered reef setup that rarely gets going, and this forecast is showing exactly why. The combined energy of all swells directed here is zero for the first few days – nothing, nada. You’re looking at a long gap of nothing until Wednesday the 8th of July, and even then, it’s barely a whisper. We’ve got a solid 16-day window, but for the most part, it’s going to be a waiting game. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
Starting Monday the 6th of July, it’s a total write-off. Clear skies but cross-on winds from the SE at 6 mph on Monday morning, and then a cross-off from the WNW at 9 mph in the afternoon. The swell is flat, energy is zero. Tuesday the 7th is no better, with offshore winds from the NNW at 6 mph in the morning, but still no waves. This pattern of clean but empty ocean runs through until Wednesday morning the 8th of July.
Finally, on Wednesday morning the 8th, we see the first pulse of life – a tiny 0.3 ft swell from the west with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy of just 1. It’s poor surf, but at least there’s some offshore wind from the NNW at 9 mph. That’s the cleanest it’ll be all week. Wednesday afternoon gets a bit more energy, 0.7 ft from the west with a period of 7 seconds and energy of 4, but the wind picks up to 16 mph from the NW, making it a cross-off. It’s still poor surf.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are back to flat conditions with moderate to fresh cross-off winds. You’ll be fighting the wind for nothing. Friday afternoon the 10th throws in a weird one – a 0.3 ft swell from the south with a very long period of 16 seconds and energy of 5. That’s a groundswell, but it’s so small it’s barely a ripple. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are similar – tiny 0.3 ft southerly swells with long periods (15-19 seconds) and low energy, all under cross-off winds. For a sheltered reef, these long-period swells are a bit of a tease, but the size just isn’t there.
The best chance of a surfable wave comes on Monday the 13th of July. Morning shows a 0.3 ft swell from the SW with a period of 18 seconds, combined energy of 19, and clean offshore winds from the NNW at 9 mph. That’s the highlight of the entire 16-day run – clean, but tiny. It’s still rated as poor surf conditions. The rest of that week is a blur of tiny, weak swells and cross-off breezes. The 20th of July brings a spike of 3 ft from the ESE with a period of only 4 seconds – that’s windswell, messy, and energy of 45. It’s not surfable for a paddle board; that setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. The wind is strong at 25 mph.
Honestly, if you’re desperate for a paddle, Monday the 13th morning is your best bet at Ingrina. It’s clean, offshore, and you might catch a waist-high set. But there’s nothing here that’s a standout. This is a dry spell, and for this area, it’s not unusual. Forecasts can change, but for now, save your energy.
Rusty.
