Table - best surf conditions forecast for Himalayas over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you – the next 16 days around Himalayas are mostly a write-off for us. There’s a long, quiet stretch ahead, nearly two weeks of barely a ripple.
The first bit of any real interest doesn’t show up until Wednesday 15 July, with a modest pulse of 2ft swell from the west, pushing a 15-second period. The combined energy reading is moderate at 273. It’s a cross-off wind from the east at 9 mph, so the surface will be clean, but the size is tiny. Honestly, it’s just a slight glimmer.
That tiny window fades fast, and from Thursday 16 July right through to the morning of Monday 27 July, we’re looking at a dead zone. Swell height drops to 1ft or less, with combined energy values mostly sitting below 100 – often just 20 or 30. The water temp is about 79°, which is pretty average for the time of year, not that you’ll be in it much.
The only standout – and I mean the *only* one – comes in the very last session of the forecast. On Monday 27 July, in the afternoon, there’s a sudden spike: 7ft of swell from the northeast. That’s pushing into the 8ft range, so it’s strictly for advanced crew only. The period is a short 8 seconds, so it’ll be a bit fat and lumpy, but the combined energy jumps to 592 – the highest we’ve seen. The wind is a gentle breeze from the east-northeast at 9 mph, keeping it clean. But this is a long-range call, so treat it as promising but not locked in.
For everything else before that, the wind is a constant cross-off, the swell is tiny, and the break is a reef set-up that’s exposed to the northwest. With the swell direction mostly coming from the west or southwest, it’s just not lining up. There’s nothing here for a kite surfer either, given the low energy.
So, bottom line: one shot, right at the tail end, on Monday 27 July afternoon. The rest? A long, frustrating gap.
Rusty.
