Table - best surf conditions forecast for Himalayas over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's chew the fat on the Himalayas over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, this is a tough one. We’re looking at a long stretch of pretty much nothing. The first few days are a total write-off. From Thursday the 9th right through until Tuesday the 14th, the water is clean but there’s just no energy in the water. We’re talking tiny swell, barely a ripple, and a constant cross-off wind from the ENE. It’s not going to be worth getting the rubber on.
The first real glimmer of anything happens on Monday the 13th of July in the afternoon, when the combined energy climbs to 218 (moderate wave energy) and the swell bumps up to 2ft from the SW. But it’s still described as marginal, with a cross-off breeze. That’s less of a surf session and more of a paddle.
Tuesday the 14th of July has a bit more going on. The morning shows a 4ft swell from the NE, but it’s short-period at 8 seconds, so it’ll be soft and a bit jumbled. The afternoon sees a cleaner 2ft, 16-second groundswell from the W with energy at 279 (moderate wave energy), which sounds better on paper, but it’s still cross-off and the reports say marginal. Not a day to get excited about.
The only period that might get your heart rate up is from Wednesday the 15th of July morning through to Friday the 17th of July morning. The swell is holding around 2ft to 2ft from the W with a nice long period of 15 seconds – that’s proper groundswell. The energy is in the 100-224 range (moderate wave energy). The wind is still cross-off, but it’s a consistent moderate breeze. For a reef break that likes a NW swell, this W swell is a bit off-optimum, but the long period will still wrap in. This is your best bet for the whole period. The waves will be clean and have some shape, but don’t expect big barrels. It’s going to be small and fun, if you’re not fussed about size.
The water temperature is sitting at 79°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
After that, from the 18th of July onwards, it drops off a cliff. The energy fades back to weak levels (under 100), and we get a couple of days around the 20th and 21st of July with absolutely no swell whatsoever. It’s a flat spell, plain and simple. There’s a tiny blip on the 22nd of July with a 1.0ft, 16-second SW swell, but at 39 energy (weak), it’s not worth planning a trip around.
So, to wrap it up: the Himalayas are looking at a long, slow start. If you’re desperate for a wave, the window from Wednesday the 15th to Friday the 17th of July offers the best chance of a clean, small wave with proper groundswell, but it’s nothing to write home about. The rest of the 16 days is mostly flat or marginal. It’s just one of those quiet runs for this spot.
Rusty.
