Alright, I’ll level with you. The Himalayas are in a deep lull right now. The first surf worth talking about doesn’t pop up until Sunday, July 12th. Before that, we’ve got a week-long stretch of flat, weak junk and steady cross-off winds – not a time to get excited.
Come Sunday, July 12th, we finally get a pulse. Swell shows at 0.5m from the SW with a 16-second period – that’s a long-period groundswell bringing real shape and push. The combined energy hits 165 (moderate). Wind is cross-off from the ENE at 25-30 km/h, so it’ll be clean. This is an advanced reef break exposed to the NW, so that SW swell wraps in. It’s consistent, but crowds can show up sometimes. Tiny waves, but the quality is there for the right surfer.
Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th of July keep that SW to W swell going at 0.5m to 0.7m, with periods of 15-16 seconds. The energy climbs into the 200-340 range (moderate to strong). Winds stay cross-off and moderate. Still marginal for size, but the wave shape is good.
Tuesday the 14th of July is your best bet. That morning gives 0.6m of W swell, 16-second period, combined energy of 279, and a lighter cross-off wind at 20 km/h – nearly glassy. It’ll be the cleanest, most lined-up surf of the whole run. After that, the second week fades fast: smaller swell, shorter periods, and weaker energy from the WNW. Nothing else stands out.
Water temperature on that first surf day is 26° – about normal for the season. No need for rubber.
So, if you want a wave, aim for Sunday the 12th through Tuesday the 14th of July. After that, it’s back to a waiting game.
