Table - best surf conditions forecast for Himalayas over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for a paddle. We’ve got a solid run of days ahead where the ocean just isn’t going to give us much to work with.
Right out of the gate, from Friday the 10th of July through the following week, the energy is super low. The swell is tiny, barely pushing 2 ft, and the wind is this annoying cross-off from the ENE that’s not helping matters. The combined wave energy is weak, sitting in the 30 to 60 range. It’s basically flat, or at best, ankle-snappers with no push. We’re looking at a gap of about a week where there’s nothing worth suiting up for.
Things start to get a little more interesting around Tuesday the 14th of July. The swell picks up slightly to 2 ft from the west, with a period of 16 seconds – that’s a nice long-period groundswell, which is good for holding shape if it had any size. The energy climbs into the moderate range, hitting 284. It’s still marginal, but it’s the best we’ve seen. The wind stays cross-off, so the surf will be clean, but it’s just too small to get excited about.
The real tease comes at the very end of the forecast period, on Friday the 24th of July. We see a pulse of swell from the NNE, pushing 4 ft, but it’s a short-period windswell, only 7 seconds. That’s going to be a messy, bumpy affair with a cross-chop, not the clean lines we'd want. The energy is moderate at 160, but the wind is cross-shore, making it a rough one. Honestly, for a spot like Himalayas, which is a reef break, that short-period, lumpy swell is more likely to be interesting for the kite crew than for us surfers.
The water temperature is sitting at 79°, which is right on the money for this time of year – no surprises there.
So, to sum it up: there’s no standout session here. The best of a bad bunch is that Tuesday the 14th, but it’s a skinnier wave. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s your window. Otherwise, keep your gear dry.
Rusty.
