The Lowdown
Alright mate, let's break it down for the Himalayas. Gotta be honest – it’s a pretty subdued run for the next 16 days. The wave energy is low across the board, with combined energy figures barely getting into triple digits on a couple of occasions (77, 36, 77, 72... you know how it goes). Most days the swell stays under 3 feet, with periods between 7 and 11 seconds.
Thursday morning the 20th starts with a 3ft NE windswell at only 7 seconds, light cross breeze, but the surf is poor. No real standouts here. Friday the 21st has a glassy moment in the morning with the east wind at just 5 km/h, and a 2ft NNE pulse – still short period though, and energy is weak at 77. The afternoon stays clean with a cross-offshore ESE breeze.
Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd see the wind pick up to 30–35 km/h from the ENE, cross-offshore, so the surface stays tidy. The swell is still tiny, though – only around 2ft max, with a period stretching to 11 seconds and energy hitting 115 on Sunday morning. Not enough push to get you frothing.
The entire week after that is the same story: clean, cross-off winds, but waves drop to 2ft and then 2ft, with energy falling away (99, 86, 34... all the way down to 6). On August 30th we get a little blip – a very long period groundswell from the SW at 16 seconds, but it’s only 1ft, and the wind is fresh and cross-shore creating lumpy conditions.
The only real standout in this entire window falls on the morning of Thursday 3rd September. That’s your best bet. We’ve got a 2ft north swell with a 9-second period, combined energy of 110, and a light east breeze held at 10 km/h, cross-offshore, meaning clean surface conditions. It’s not a classic, but in this dry spell, it’s as good as it gets.
If you’re not fussy, get out there then. Otherwise, the stronger winds on the breezier days might be more interesting for kiting than surfing.
Tough stretch. Hang tight.
