Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the Himalayas.

Right from the start, Tuesday July 7th, it’s flat. We’re talking 0.3 ft from the NW with next to no energy. For days on end, from the 7th through the 11th of July, the swell is tiny – 0.3 ft to 1.0 ft – and the energy is in the low double digits. The wind is a cross-off from the ENE at 19 mph. There’s just no wave to ride. A long flat spell to kick things off.

The first sign of life comes Sunday, July 12th. Swell picks up to 2 ft from the SW, with a 16-second period. That’s a long-period groundswell, and for the reef at the Himalayas, that’s good for shape. The energy jumps to 154, which is moderate. But the wind is still cross-off at 16 mph, so don’t expect it to be glassy.

Monday the 13th looks similar. The morning has 2 ft from the SW with 184 energy. The afternoon sees a bump to 1 ft from the W with a very long 19-second period and energy at 234. That’s the biggest raw energy of the run, but still not coming together.

Tuesday the 14th of July morning is our best bet. The swell is 2 ft from the W at 17 seconds, with energy hitting 303. The wind is a little lighter at 12 mph from the ENE. The swell direction (W) matches the optimum for this break (NW), so it should wrap in well on the reef. The water temp is 79° with a tiny anomaly, so it’s average for the time of year. This is as close to a standout as it gets.

After that, it fades. By the 17th of July, energy drops to the 70s. By the 20th, it’s flat again. The second week is weak, with tiny 0.7 ft to 1.0 ft waves and no power. The one tease is Wednesday, July 22nd afternoon, when the wind finally goes light offshore from the SE at 3 mph, making it glassy. But the swell is only 1.0 ft from the SW. A classic case of “right wind, wrong wave.”

Overall, the only real window is July 14th. A long-period groundswell on a reef with a cross-off breeze – you might snag a couple, but don’t expect a firing session.

Rusty.
