Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you about Folkestone.
Right now, and for the whole of the 16-day window, it’s flat or near enough to flat. There’s no surf worth paddling out for. We’re looking at a solid blank run. The first few days (Sunday the 5th through to the end of next week) are tiny – you’re talking ankle-slappers at best, with swell heights hanging around 0.3ft to 1ft and periods so short they barely get the energy up. The combined swell energy is in the single digits or low double digits (1 to 85), which is weak. And the wind? Cross-off and cross-shore breezes, mostly light to fresh, but none of it is working for us. The surf quality is consistently described as poor.
Folkestone is a beach and reef setup, sheltered from most swell, and it’s inconsistent at the best of times. Unfortunately, this is one of those times. There’s no stand-out day, no hidden gem. The whole run is a write-off.
The second week doesn’t offer any hope either. A few tiny pulses from the NE appear around the 16th to the 17th – 4ft of swell, period at 5 seconds, but with cross-onshore winds and choppy conditions. Combined energy sits around 50-64 – still weak. Nothing to get excited about.
If you’re after a long-range hope, there’s a brief moment on Saturday the 18th afternoon with 2ft from the NE, cross-off wind, clean. But it’s only 4 seconds period – short-period slop – and the energy is just 16. Not worth the wait.
Overall, this is a classic dry spell for Folkestone. When it’s flat here, it tends to stay flat for a while. Hang tight, forecasts can change, but right now there’s nothing on the table.
