Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next couple of weeks around Folkestone are looking bleak. We’re staring down a long, dry spell of flat or marginal conditions, so if you’ve got an itch, you’ll need patience.
The water is running much warmer than normal for this time of year, coming in at 64°, a solid 5° above the usual. Nice for a dip, but it won’t help the waves.
The outlook kicks off Sunday the 5th with barely a bump – just 0.3ft of weak, short-period swell. It’s a no-go. Monday the 6th sees a slight lift in the afternoon to 3ft from the SW, but with a fresh 22 mph cross-offshore wind, the energy is still feeble at (27). Not worth the paddle.
Tuesday the 7th stays tiny, and Wednesday the 8th is utterly flat. Thursday the 9th through Friday the 10th bring a pulse of windswell from the ENE, but the timing is all wrong. By Friday afternoon we get the biggest number of the run: 5ft from the NE at 6 seconds. That’s truckloads of chop, with a strong 25 mph cross breeze making a mess of it. The energy hits (148), but for paddle surfing, it’s a write-off – this setup is far more interesting for kite surfing than a traditional paddle session.
The weekend of the 12th to 13th drops off a cliff again, with flat conditions and strong breezes. There’s a flicker on the 14th with a long-period 11-second pulse from the W, but at only 0.3ft, it’s a ghost. The whole first week is a bust.
Heading into the second week, nothing improves. The 15th to the 20th is dominated by flat spells, cross-shore winds, and tiny, weak swells. The one standout – if you can call it that – is the morning of Sunday the 19th. Glassy conditions with a 1.0ft, 6-second pulse from the SW under a slight air. It’s clean, but at that size, you’re basically floating. Not a surfer’s wave.
Honestly, there are no good surf options in this 16-day window. Folkestone is a sheltered, inconsistent spot, and this blank run is more normal for the area. Don’t force it; forecasts can change, but right now, it's a waiting game.
Stay tuned,
Rusty
