Table - best surf conditions forecast for Folkestone over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks. Rusty here. Gotta be honest – this one’s a tough stretch. Over the next 16 days, there’s nothing but “poor surf conditions” at Folkestone. No standout sessions, no must-paddle days. Let’s run through it.
The first record is Friday, 10 July. It’s a dud. Tiny 1 ft swell from the ENE, period of 3 seconds, with a moderate cross-breeze at 12 mph. The water is a warm 65°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s the only bright spot. Energy is weak (4). That afternoon, the swell bumps to 3 ft from the NE, period still 4 seconds, and the wind picks up to a fresh 19 mph cross-shore. Lumpy and messy.
Saturday 11 July and Sunday 12 July are the same story. Clear skies, but a fresh NE breeze at 19–22 mph keeps the surface lumpy. Swell stays under 4 ft, period at 5 seconds. Energy climbs to 103 by Sunday afternoon, but it’s short-period, cross-shore junk. Poor.
Monday 13 July through Thursday 16 July – nothing changes. Swell height between 3 ft and 5 ft, all from the NE, period stuck at 5 seconds. The wind is relentless from the NE, 12–22 mph, cross-shore. The energy gets into the low hundreds, but it’s not surfable.
Then a lull. Friday 17 July morning goes glassy with a tiny 0.3 ft from the W, but it’s practically flat. The afternoon is clean, but no swell. This quiet stretch lasts through Monday 20 July, with only 0.3 ft to 1 ft waves and no energy.
From Tuesday 21 July to Saturday 25 July, we see a slight lift. Tuesday afternoon has a 3 ft swell from the SW, period 4 seconds, but it’s cross-onshore wind at 9 mph. Choppy and weak. Wednesday 22 July afternoon hits 4 ft from the SW, but again a moderate cross-shore wind spoils it. The energy is moderate (46). The rest of the week is tiny 0.7 ft to 3 ft swells, all with messy cross-winds.
Bottom line: zero good surf options in the entire 16-day window. The winds are almost always cross or cross-onshore, the swell is short-period and weak, and the break is sheltered and inconsistent. With all the wind and chop, this beach-and-reef setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Don’t bother – it’s a blank run. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a hard pass.
Rusty.
