The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Fly Roads has got cookin’ for us.
To be straight with you, this is a pretty quiet stretch ahead. For a solid week, from Monday the 17th right through to Monday the 24th, there’s just nothing doing. We’re talkin’ tiny dribblers under 3 ft, mixed with onshore or cross-shore wind, and energy readings barely tickling the dial – you’ll see combined energy numbers down around 10 to 90 (weak). Not worth wetting a wetsuit for.
The first real glimmer of hope shows up Wednesday morning, the 26th of August. The wind goes glassy – dead calm – and we get a clean, knee-high 2 ft swell rolling in from the S with a solid 11-second period (moderate wave energy at 121). It’s small, but it’s clean. You’ll find a few little crumbly shoulders if you’re patient. That’s about as good as it gets for the whole rundown.
After that, the wind picks up again and we slip back into a run of poor conditions through the end of August. The swell tries to build – by Saturday the 29th we’re looking at 7 ft from the S with strong energy (707), but the wind is a messy cross-onshore at 25 mph. It’s not a paddle surfer’s wave; honestly, that setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than a traditional paddle session. That big S swell is coming with short 9-second period, too, so it’ll be lumpy and disorganised.
Into the first days of September, there’s a bit more size – Tuesday the 1st shows 7 ft from the S with very strong energy (1797) and a better 14-second period. But it’s still a cross-onshore wind, so the quality is questionable. Might be a sneaky one for experts on a good sandbank, but I wouldn't pencil it in.
Fly Roads is your only break on the menu here. It’s a very consistent, exposed beach break, so it picks up everything. But for this 16-day window, “consistent” just means consistent mediocrity. The water temp is sitting at 64°F with a 2°F anomaly – that’s pretty much average for the time of year, no surprises there.
So, the best on offer: Wednesday morning, the 26th of August. Tiny and clean with glassy conditions. It’s not epic, but it’s the cleanest wave in a long dry spell.
Hang in there. Forecasts can change.
Rusty.
