Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fly Roads over the next 16 days.
G'day, I'm Rusty.
Alright, look, I'm gonna be straight with you. The next 16 days for Fly Roads are a mixed bag, and you've got to be patient. The forecast kicks off on Sunday the 12th with tiny, wind-affected slop, and honestly, it's a write-off for the first week or so. We're looking at a near-blank run of poor conditions until we hit a promising window right at the end.
Let's walk through it. Starting Sunday the 12th through to the middle of the week, we've got nothing doing. The wind is howling cross-shore, the swell is either tiny or, if there's a pulse, it's coming with rain and a strong onshore blow. On Wednesday the 15th, we see a jump in size – up to 7ft in the morning from the S, but that's with a 19 mph onshore wind and poor quality. The wave energy is moderate (492). It’s not for paddling; that setup looks more interesting for kite surfing. Thursday the 16th is in the same boat – messy, lumpy, and not fun.
We finally get a sniff of hope on Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th. The swell hangs around 7ft to 8ft from the SSE/ESE, but the wind remains cross-onshore. The wave energy gets strong (854) but the conditions are still marginal. You might get a couple, but it’s not a standout.
Now, the real highlight is Sunday the 19th. This is the one we've been waiting for. Early morning we get a clean 8ft ESE groundswell with a light offshore wind from the NNE. The wave energy is very strong (1455). This is excellent surf for experienced surfers – it's going to be clean, with proper period (11 seconds) and solid power. The swell direction matches the optimum for the spot. The afternoon still looks fun with a 8ft swell and cross-off wind, but the morning is the window.
After that, Monday the 20th sees a return to cross-shore winds and dropping quality. Tuesday the 21st has size, but the wind swings onshore again, making a mess of it.
Fast forward to the end of the run – we've got a couple of quiet, clean moments. On Friday the 24th, we get a glassy afternoon with a small 4ft SE swell. The wind is dead calm, and the wave energy is moderate (310). It's small, but it will be clean and fun for a beginner on a longboard. It's a real feel-good session after all that wind.
The long-range stuff into the second week (26th and 27th) is small and weak, with the 26th offering a clean but tiny 2ft wave in the morning you could probably squeeze a fun one out on a log.
To sum it up: Don't bother paddling out until Friday the 17th. The absolute standout is the morning of Sunday the 19th for the experienced crew. Friday the 24th afternoon is the pick for the beginners. The rest is a waiting game.
Rusty.
