The Lowdown
Right then, let's have a look at what's on offer for the next couple of weeks around East Runton. I'll level with you, it's a pretty quiet spell. We've got a week and a half of onshore winds and weak swell that's really not doing the place any favours. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, which is something, but that's about the only positive for a while.
For the first few days, starting Tuesday the 14th, we've got clean skies but a stiff 16 mph onshore wind and a weak 4 ft swell with a short period of just 6 seconds. The combined wave energy is weak (90), and it's just poor surf. That onshore breeze sticks around right through to the following week, with swell heights never really getting above 4 ft and short periods meaning the waves will be fat and weak. We see a bit of a bump in energy on Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th, where the combined energy climbs to moderate levels (152 to 223), but the wind is howling 19-22 mph cross-onshore, making it choppy and lumpy. Not worth your time unless you're into a beatdown.
We finally get a break in the wind late on Monday the 27th. It goes glassy that afternoon, but there's zero swell. The next morning, Tuesday the 28th, we get a fresh offshore wind from the southwest, but again, hardly any swell to speak of. By Wednesday the 29th, it's offshore at 19 mph but with a tiny 0.7 ft swell.
Truth be told, there isn't one single standout session across this whole 16-day window. It's a run of poor conditions from top to bottom. If you are desperate to get wet, the cleanest windows are going to be Monday morning the 26th with a clean cross-offshore wind and a small 3 ft swell from the northwest, but it's weak at 27 energy, and the period is short. Or, that Tuesday the 28th with fresh offshore wind, but you'll be waiting for nothing to ride. For a beginner spot, it's just not happening. Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer when that wind picks up.
This is a rough patch, but hopefully, the forecasts change.
