The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be honest, this is a tough one. Right now, the outlook for Delray Public Beach is pretty bleak. Every single day in the 16-day window is showing poor surf conditions. That’s a long stretch of nothing, from now right through to September 7th. It’s one of those spells where the ocean just seems to be asleep.
The first record kicks off on Sunday morning, August 23rd, with a tiny 0.3ft swell from the NE, and a weak combined energy of just 5 (5). The wind is a cross-on from the S at 6 mph, which isn’t doing anyone any favors. That’s about as flat as it gets.
We’ve got a real gap here. There’s no surf to recommend for the rest of August. The only real change is a slight increase in water temperature, hitting 87°, which is about 2° warmer than average for this time of year. That’s just a normal summer reading for the area, nothing to get excited about.
By the time we get to Thursday, September 3rd, the combined energy finally bumps up to a moderate 117 (117), with a 2ft swell from the E and a period of 11 seconds. That’s a bit of groundswell, but it’s still listed as poor surf. The wind is a gentle cross-on from the SE at 9 mph, making for choppy conditions. It’s a tease, but it’s not a go.
The only thing that changes is the swell direction shifts from the E to the NE later in the window, but the heights stay pathetically small, never getting above 2ft. The winds are mostly onshore or cross-onshore, ruining any chance of a clean wave.
There’s simply no standout here. This is a total washout. For a spot that’s fairly consistent, it’s a real bummer. But that’s the way it goes sometimes. The forecasts can always change, and we’ll be watching for the next pulse.
Rusty.
