Table - best surf conditions forecast for Delray Public Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer.
Well, to be honest, the next 16 days are looking pretty quiet for Delray Public Beach. I’m not seeing any standout sessions that’ll get the heart pumping. The swell is tiny, barely a ripple most days, and the wind is often onshore or cross-onshore, messing up what little energy there is.
The combined swell energy is weak, with values mostly in the teens and twenties (21 to 43), just a few pushing into the sixties, but nothing that’ll make you paddle out with a grin. The swell period is short, 4 to 8 seconds, so it’s all wind chop and local slop, not a proper groundswell.
For the first week, from Thursday the 9th through to the 16th, it’s a flat spell. Waves are 0.7 ft to 2 ft, with onshore or cross-onshore winds from the ESE and SE. There’s a morning on the 11th with a risk of thunderstorms, and the wind is cross-on, so it’s not a good look. The 12th and 13th are also poor, with tiny 0.7 ft to 1 ft waves and messy conditions.
The middle of the second week, around the 18th and 19th, stays tiny. On the morning of the 19th, the wind goes glassy, but the wave is only 0.7 ft, so it’s a flat calm, not a surfable wave. The 20th and 21st have a few cleaner moments in the morning with light cross-off or cross-shore breezes, but the swell is still only 1 ft to 2 ft, so it’s more of a knee-bouncer than a wave.
The 23rd and 24th of July, the last two days in the window, show a little more promise. On the morning of the 23rd, with some clouds and a light cross-off wind from the west at 3 mph, the waves are 2 ft from the SE, with a clean surface. The combined energy is 30, still weak. The 24th morning is similar: a clean 2 ft from the SE, with a cross-off wind from the WSW. But the period is still short at 4 seconds, so it’s not a quality wave.
For a beginner spot, the tiny size is fine, but the lack of any decent swell and the persistent onshore winds mean it’s not worth getting excited about. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
To be straight with you, there’s no real standout day here. The best you could hope for is a cleaner morning on the 23rd or 24th, but even then, it’s a 2 ft slop with a short period. If you’re desperate for a paddle, the 24th morning might be the pick, but don’t expect much.
Rusty.
