The Lowdown
Alright, let's get real. The next couple of weeks are looking flat-out bad for surf around here. We've got a whole lot of nothing on the way, and the few little bumps of energy that do show up are weak, short-period, and not worth your time. I'm not going to lie to you – this is a tough stretch.
First up, Delray Public Beach. The water temp is 87°, which is about 2° warmer than usual for this time of year. It's a bit of a bathtub, but not crazy.
For the next several days, we're looking at flat, weak surf. The swell is hanging around 0.7ft to 1ft with a period around 8-9 seconds. There's just no push behind it. The energy is weak, with readings in the teens to mid-20s (14 to 25). You'd be paddling around for nothing. We've got a mix of cross and onshore winds, so it'll be bumpy, too. Don't bother.
Around Thursday the 20th, there's a slight bump to 3ft, but the period drops to a pathetic 4 seconds. That's just wind chop, not a wave. And it's coming with a risk of thunderstorms. That's a hard pass.
We go through a flat spell with a few clean glassy mornings, like Friday the 21st and Thursday the 27th, but the swell is still tiny at 0.7ft to 1ft. It's just not doing anything.
There is a little spike in energy on the 27th, with the combined energy reading hitting 47, and the period stretching out to 12 seconds. That's a long-period groundswell, but the height is still only 1ft. It's a tease. It might get the sand moving, but it won't be surfable. The next afternoon has a bit more energy (67 on the 27th) but the onshore wind will chop it to bits.
To be honest, you're better off finding something else to do for the next two weeks. There are no standouts, no hidden gems, just a lot of small, weak, and messy surf. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing if we get any significant wind, but even that's not looking great.
If you've got a board that you just want to get wet, maybe a longboard for some tiny dribbles, but don't expect anything to get your heart racing. It's a blank run, and it's just the way this stretch of coast goes sometimes. Forecasts can change, but this one looks stubborn.
Keep the faith, check back later.
Rusty.
