Table - best surf conditions forecast for Delray Public Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, it's Rusty here. Let me level with you. If you're looking for a decent wave in this region over the next sixteen days, you're looking for a needle in a haystack. The whole outlook is a flat spell through and through. There is a massive gap of no good surf from the start of the period right the way through. Honestly, it's not until we get into the second week that we even see the swell tick up, and even then, it's messy. The best we can hope for is a couple of afternoons around the 15th of July where the ocean might show a bit more life, but the conditions will be a battle. For the vast majority of this forecast, the setup here at Delray Public Beach is looking far more interesting for kite surfing than for paddle surfing. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, nothing wild to report there.
From now until about the middle of July, you're looking at tiny, weak surf. The combined swell energy is stuck in the low double digits, like 19 to 25, which is next to nothing. The swell is dribbling in from the ESE, but the period is a short, weak 4 to 8 seconds. On top of that, the wind is mostly a moderate onshore or cross-onshore breeze from the SE or ESE. It's going to be small, choppy, and frustrating. A notable blip is on Monday morning, the 13th of July, where we get a brief window of glassy conditions with a light SSW wind, but the swell is a pathetic 0.7 ft from the ESE. You could paddle around on a foamie, but there's nothing to actually ride.
Things start to change on the 15th of July. Wednesday afternoon sees the swell bump up to 4 ft from the SE, and the combined energy jumps to 149, which at least has some push to it. However, the period is a short 5 seconds and the wind is a moderate cross-onshore. Thursday the 16th offers similar size, around 4 ft to 4 ft from the SE, with energy in the 94 to 108 range. But again, the wind is onshore and the period is short. It'll be a bumpy, messy affair. The standout, if you can call it that, would be the morning of Wednesday the 15th where the swell is 3 ft from the NNE with a 9-second period, which is the best period of the whole run. The combined energy hits 110. But the wind is still a moderate cross-onshore from the SE. It's the only time in the whole outlook where the raw power is there, but the conditions won't let you enjoy it. This entire period is poor surf. For a beginner, this spot is fine when it's small, but anything over 5 ft like on the 15th and 16th is getting too big for you. The crowds at Delray are only sometimes a problem, so that's not the issue here.
After the 20th, the swell drops right back off again into the 0.7 ft to 2 ft range with very low energy, so the poor run continues right to the end of the forecast window. There's nothing to get excited about.
Rusty.
