The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get real about what’s happening with the surf.
Right off the bat, I gotta tell you it’s a tough stretch. The 16-day window is basically a flat spell for Delray Public Beach. We’re looking at a long gap of poor surf, day after day. The first solid recommendation doesn’t pop up until way down the line, so don’t hold your breath for this week.
The whole first week is a write-off. From Monday the 13th right through to the weekend, it’s all tiny, weak energy. We’re talking about swell heights barely pushing 1 ft, and the periods are mostly short, around 4 to 8 seconds. The combined energy is laughable, hitting just 13 (weak energy) on Monday afternoon, and barely touching 20 (weak energy) at best. Winds are mostly onshore or cross-onshore, chopping up what little bump there is. Even Thursday morning the 16th goes glassy, but with only 1.0 ft of swell and a combined energy of 14 (weak energy), it’s just a flat, pretty lake.
The second week doesn’t get much better. The same story repeats: tiny, weak swell with poor, choppy wind. The biggest combined energy we see is 36 (weak energy) on Thursday morning the 23rd, but that’s still a pitiful 3 ft of swell with a period of just 5 seconds. It’s all cross-onshore wind, making it a messy, frustrating paddle. Honestly, for a beach break like this, that wind and size combo looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The only real glimmer in the whole 16 days comes on Sunday morning the 26th. The wind goes glassy, and the swell bumps up to 1 ft from the NE with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is 30 (weak energy). It’s still tiny, but with glassy conditions, it’s the cleanest you’ll see. For a beginner-friendly break, this is your one shot at a fun little log session. But don’t expect much.
The water temp is sitting at 86°F with a 2°F anomaly, which is a good degree warmer than usual for this time of year. It’s bathwater, but no waves to enjoy it.
So, the honest truth? There’s basically nothing worth paddling out for in the next 16 days. The forecast is dead quiet. It’s a blank run, and for this area, that’s not unusual. Forecasts can change, but for now, leave the board in the car.
Rusty.
