Ballyheigue Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, folks. Rusty here, looking at the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you – it’s a pretty grim outlook. We’ve got a long dry spell with nothing really happening. The water temp is about 64°F, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so that’s something.

The first few days are a washout. Starting Thursday, the 30th of July, through the weekend, the wind is cross-on from the NW and WNW, and the swell is all short-period windswell around 3 to 4 feet. The energy is between 81 and 188 (weak to moderate), but the quality is poor and choppy.

The only tiny window is Sunday, the 2nd of August. The morning is flat at 1 foot, but the wind goes light offshore from the east. By the afternoon, the swell comes up to about 2 feet from the WSW, with a period of 10 seconds, and the wind is still light offshore. It’s clean, but it’s tiny. The wave comment says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions,” and the energy is a weak 81. It’s the only thing that scores a 1 out of 10, so if you’ve got a longboard, you might get a few.

From Monday, the 3rd of August, through the 11th, it’s mostly flat. Swell drops to 0.3 to 1 feet, energy readings are in the single digits. Offshore winds pop up a few times, but there’s no swell to work with. That’s a gap of nearly ten days with no real recommendations.

Then on Wednesday, the 12th of August, we get a pulse. Swell hits 4 feet from the NW, but with a short period of 6 seconds, and the energy hits 149 (moderate). The wind is cross-on from the NW, so it’s gonna be choppy. This is a beach and reef setup, so with that wind, I’d say it’s more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.

The rest of the fortnight into the 14th is more of the same: small, onshore, poor. This is a normal quiet spell for Ballyheigue. Forecasts can change, but for now, I’d keep the board in the car and wait for a better day.
