The Lowdown
Right then, Rusty here again. Let’s break it down in feet and miles per hour for those who think that way.
The water is warm – 66°F, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year. Nice for a long sit.
The first real chance to get out is on Monday, 20th July. Inch Strand will see some tiny 2ft swell from the west with a period of 11 seconds. The wind is light from the northeast, making for clean conditions. The energy is weak (66), so it’s more about the glide than the power. The afternoon holds similar 2ft waves with a 10-second period and still cross-offshore breeze.
Tuesday 21st, the morning has 2ft waves with a 10-second period, light wind, but the energy drops to 59. Afternoon shrinks to 1ft. Not worth the wax.
Wednesday 22nd through Saturday 26th July stay small and weak. Wave heights are between 1.0ft and 2ft, periods are short (8 to 10 seconds). Winds are mostly light and cross-offshore, keeping it clean, but the energy is bottomed out. On Saturday 25th, the wind turns onshore from the southwest, making it even less interesting.
Sunday 26th July sees rain showers and cross-onshore winds up to 18 mph. Waves are still only 1ft. The next few days are choppy with onshore winds.
Tuesday 28th July shows a bump: 3ft swell from the west in the morning, period 8 seconds, and energy hits 157 (moderate). But the wind is onshore from the west at 15 mph, so it’s messy. The afternoon pushes to 3ft with 21 mph onshore winds – blown out and lumpy.
Wednesday 29th July has the strongest wind of the run – morning gusts up to 28 mph cross-onshore. The swell is 3ft with a 10-second period and energy of 125, but it’ll be a white-capped mess. With this wind and a beach setup, it’s more of a kite-surfing day than a paddle-surfing one.
Thursday 30th July morning has a short window of light cross-offshore wind from the southeast with 2ft waves, but it’s weak (37). After that, it’s back to onshore breezes and tiny leftover swell through to Saturday, 1st August.
So, the best call? Monday, 20th July morning, and maybe Friday 24th July afternoon when the wind is light and the waves are 2ft with a 10-second period. But really, there’s no heater here. Just small, clean, and very ordinary.
Rusty.
