Alright, Rusty here, let's have a look at what's on offer for the next couple of weeks at Inch Strand.
Alright, so it’s a bit of a slow start, but hold on because there’s a proper slab of energy coming our way in the second week. The first real window to get wet is Thursday afternoon, July 2nd. We’ve got a clean 7ft west swell rolling in with a period of 10 seconds, moderate energy levels (788), and the wind is a light north cross-off. Water temp is sitting at 63°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the thick suit at home. The offshore wind will make for some clean faces at this beginner-friendly beach break.
But here’s the thing – after that promising start, the next stretch is grim. From Friday the 3rd right through to Monday the 13th, the wind and swell just can’t get it together. It’s mostly onshore, cross-on, or just too small and weak. There are a few glassy moments on Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th mornings, but with only 3ft to 4ft of weak, short-period swell, it’s barely worth a paddle. You’re looking at over a week of poor to ordinary conditions.
Now, for the real standout – circle Monday the 13th of July. This is the one. Light north-northwest cross-off winds, a solid 7ft west swell with a long period of 12 seconds. This is proper groundswell and the wave energy is way up at 1248 – that’s strong stuff. It’s going to be clean, powerful, and from the looks of it, a morning session looks magic. That said, at over 5ft, it’s getting a bit much for beginners, and with that long period it might jack up pretty fast on the beach, so it’ll suit experienced surfers more. There’s also a chance of a few others in the water early.
The swell hangs in there through Tuesday the 14th with a clean 4ft swell, still cross-off, but it’s a step down in size and energy. Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th fade out into tiny slop, but then there’s a pulse on Friday the 17th – a 6ft westerly, but with a short period of just 6 seconds. It could be a bit walled and bumpy if the wind switches, but if it stays glassy in the morning, it might be worth a look for the desperate. The afternoon tries to push 7ft, but that looks like it might be too big for the break.
So, to wrap it up: Thursday the 2nd is a nice little opener, but the true stand-out is Monday the 13th, if you can wait that long. It’s the best combination of size, clean wind, and solid energy we’ve got in the whole window. Keep an eye on that one.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
