Right, let’s have a proper look at what’s on offer for Anglet - Marinella over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you – this stretch is going through a quiet patch. We’ve got a mix of small, weak swell and tricky wind directions for most of the period.
The water here is sitting at a notable 75° – that’s much warmer than usual for the time of year, a real anomaly.
First up, Saturday the 4th of July morning brings a small 4ft NW swell with a period of 10 seconds, but the wind is a cross-onshore from the NW at 3 mph, so it’s not going to be pretty. The combined energy is moderate (225). The morning session is described as marginal, and the afternoon gets even messier. Not one to get excited about.
Sunday the 5th of July morning is where we see the best conditions of this outlook. The wind goes glassy from the NE at 3 mph. There’s a small 2ft NW groundswell (11-second period, 133 energy). It’s tiny, but you’ll get clean little waves. The waves are surfable but ordinary – you’d be stretching for a ride. This is about as good as it gets for the first week.
After that, it’s a real struggle. From Monday the 6th through to Saturday the 12th of July, the swell stays under 2ft for most sessions, with only a few brief moments of light offshore winds (like Monday morning with a clean 2ft NW swell at 65 energy) or another glassy patch on Tuesday the 7th morning (2ft NW, 44 energy). The crowd situation at Marinella can be a thing, but with this size, most people will be sitting it out.
There is a slight bump on Sunday the 12th of July morning, with a 4ft NW swell (10-second period, 216 energy). The wind is cross-onshore, though, and the conditions are described as marginal due to tide or quality. It’s still a small wave and you’ll be dealing with light cross-onshore bumps.
The second week really doesn’t improve. Swell heights hover around 2ft to 3ft, mostly from the NW and WNW. Wind is almost always cross-onshore or onshore. There are a couple of cleaner slots – like Wednesday the 15th of July morning (3ft NW, 137 energy, cross-offshore breeze from the NE) – but the swell just doesn’t have any power. The last glimmer is Sunday the 19th of July morning, with another tiny glassy session (1ft WNW, 44 energy).
Honestly, there are no true standout days here. The best on offer is Sunday the 5th of July morning, when the glassy conditions give you the cleanest possible surface for those ankle-to-knee high waves. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that’s your window. For the rest, expect a long run of small, bumpy, uninspiring surf.
