Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anglet - Marinella over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s chew the fat on what’s comin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta level with you – it’s gonna be a long, quiet stretch. We’re lookin’ at nearly two weeks of barely a ripple out there. The first real surf doesn’t show up until Saturday, July 11th, and even then it’s nothin’ to write home about. For the first few days, the water is warm, sittin’ at 75°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only bright spot.
So, here’s the story. The first time we see anythin’ even close to a wave is Saturday morning, July 11th, at Anglet - Marinella. We’re talkin’ a tiny 2 ft swell from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is weak, at 102. The good news is the wind is glassy – dead calm – so the surface will be smooth as a mirror. For a beginner spot, this is about as good as it gets for learnin’ to pop up on a knee-high wave. It’s exposed to the west, so that swell direction is okay. Don’t expect any power, but it’s clean. The afternoon cleans up with a cross-offshore breeze, but the swell drops to a pathetic 2 ft.
After that, it’s back to the flat spell. The swell basically disappears again until Saturday, July 18th. On that Saturday morning, we get another tiny pulse: 1 ft from the WNW. The period is a long 12 seconds, so it’s a groundswell, but there’s just no height to it. The combined energy is a weak 74. Again, the wind goes glassy, so it’s clean. But honestly, you’d be strugglin’ to find a rideable wave. It’s surfable but very ordinary.
The only time the energy jumps up is on Friday, July 24th. The morning shows a 3 ft swell from the NW with an 11-second period, and the combined energy kicks up to 308 – that’s moderate energy. The problem? The wind is onshore from the west, and there’s light rain. It’s a marginal forecast, and the onshore wind will chop it up. It’s not a standout by any stretch.
So, to sum it up: the best we’ve got in this 16-day window is the glassy, clean but tiny surf on Saturday morning, July 11th. If you’re a beginner, that’s your window. Other than that, it’s a lot of waitin’. The setup is so small and weak for so long, it’s more of a flat spell than a surf forecast. Don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
