Table - best surf conditions forecast for Anglet - Les Sables d'Or over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what the coming weeks are serving up for us at Anglet - Les Sables d'Or.
Right off the bat, I’ve got to be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch ahead. We’re looking at a long, flat spell. The first decent hint of any surfable waves doesn’t show up until Friday morning the 10th of July, and even then it’s pretty ordinary. The ocean is just not cooperating for a while there.
For the first week, from Wednesday the 8th right through to Friday the 17th of July, the swell is tiny and the conditions are mostly messy. The water temperature is sitting at a very unusual 75°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only upside.
There is a little window on Friday the 10th of July in the afternoon, and again on Saturday the 11th of July in the morning, where things clean up a bit. The wind goes glassy on Friday afternoon, and then we get a light cross-offshore breeze from the east on Saturday morning. The swell is small – around 2 ft to 3 ft from the northwest – and the combined wave energy is weak (128 on Friday, 112 on Saturday). It’s surfable, but very ordinary. You’d be scraping for little waves.
The real story here kicks off on the weekend of the 18th and 19th of July. The swell finally shows up. Saturday the 18th morning sees 4 ft from the west-northwest with an 8-second period, and the combined energy climbs to 187 (moderate energy). By Saturday afternoon, it’s pushing 5 ft, with energy at 307. But here’s the kicker – the wind is cross-onshore from the north-northwest, and the wave comment is “poor surf conditions”. For a spot like this that’s exposed to a west-southwest optimum, the northwest swell isn’t ideal, and the onshore wind will chop it up. At this size (over 5 ft), it’s getting too big for beginners, and the messy conditions mean it’s not really a standout for anyone.
Sunday the 19th of July actually brings the biggest, most consistent swell of the whole period. We’re looking at 6 ft from the northwest (8-second period) in the morning, with a very strong combined energy of 440. That carries through the day. But the wind is onshore from the northwest, making it a messy, rainy day. At 6 ft, this is expert territory, and with the wind and rain, it’s a tough paddle. The spot is a beach break, and with that short-period swell and onshore wind, it’s going to be a mess. Honestly, with the significant swell and poor quality, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The energy peaks on Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st of July, with swell heights reaching 8 ft and combined energy values hitting 872 (very strong wave energy). But it’s all onshore wind – 15 to 18 mph from the west and west-northwest – with rain and thunderstorms. This is big, chunky, blown-out stuff. Only for the very experienced, and even then, it’s not going to be pretty.
After that, the swell drops back down. Wednesday the 22nd of July has a 4 ft morning swell from the northwest with light winds, but it’s still cross-onshore, so it’s marginal at best.
Honestly, looking at the whole 16 days, there’s no true standout. The only time you might get a clean, small wave is on Saturday the 11th of July in the morning with that offshore breeze – but it’s tiny. The bigger swells are all blown out. If you’re desperate, keep an eye on that Saturday morning the 11th. Otherwise, this is a long, blank run for quality surf.
Stay safe, and don’t force it.
Rusty.
