Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for our local patch.
Well, to be straight with you, it’s a pretty bleak picture across the whole 16-day window. There’s just no real surf to get excited about at all. The records show nothing but poor surf conditions from start to finish, so we’re looking at a long, flat spell. The first chance for anything, and I use that word loosely, is the morning of Monday, July 7th, but it’s a big fat zero in terms of quality.
The only break in the game is Troia. It’s rated for beginners, but it’s inconsistent, so that’s a bit of a warning. The water temperature is sitting at 77°, which is a massive 9° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s very unusual, like swimming in a bath.
Looking at the days, the first real mention of any height is on Monday afternoon, July 7th, with a tiny 1 ft from the WNW on a pathetic 3-second period. The wind is cross-on at 9 mph, so it’s choppy and messy. Energy is barely there at (6). Not worth paddling out for.
The biggest swell we see all period doesn’t come until Wednesday afternoon, July 16th, with 4 ft from the WNW, and period still only 5 seconds. The combined energy is (83), which is still weak. But the wind is howling cross-on at 16 mph, making it a choppy, blown-out mess. At over 5 ft, it’s not for beginners, but with that wind and short period, it’s honestly more of a kite surfing setup than a paddle surfing one. Not a standout by any stretch.
There is a brief moment on the morning of Saturday, July 12th where the wind goes glassy, but the swell is a pathetic 0.3 ft from the south on a long 16-second period. That long period means it might wrap in, but there’s simply no height to work with. A few other mornings show clean conditions with light offshore or cross-off winds (July 9th, July 14th, July 17th, July 18th, July 19th), but again, the swell is either flat or just a whisper.
So the bottom line? Don’t bother waxing up for the next two weeks. There are no standouts. It’s a long run of flat and poor conditions. For a spot that is inconsistent, a blank run like this is pretty normal. Keep an eye on the forecasts, though, as they can change.
Rusty.
