The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break down the 16-day for Trevone Bay.
Honestly, it’s a tough start. We’re looking at a long stretch of nothing much to surf. The first real opportunity doesn't show up until the tail end of the forecast. The water is a warm 66°F, which is a very unusual 6°F warmer than normal for this time of year.
The first week is a total write-off. From Tuesday the 14th right through to the 24th of July, we’re dealing with tiny, weak swells and mostly bad winds. The combined energy is constantly in the low numbers, like 32 or 42, which is weak. There’s a clean moment on the 21st with a 1ft WNW swell, but it’s just too small to ride.
We’ve got a dry spell, but it finally changes. The best window is the 24th and 25th of July. On Friday afternoon the 24th, we get a moderate offshore breeze from the SE cleaning up a 2ft swell from the WNW. The combined energy is moderate (145), and that offshore wind is a massive plus for clean waves. Then Saturday morning the 25th is looking glassy with a light NE wind, and a 3ft west swell with a 7-second period. It’s not big, but with glassy conditions, it’ll be a fun, clean session for beginners.
Looking further ahead, the 27th and 28th of July bring a bigger pulse. Monday morning the 27th has a 7ft west swell with an 8-second period. The combined energy jumps to 581 (strong). The wind is cross-off, so it’s clean, but at 7ft, this is strictly for experts. The 28th is similar, with a 6ft west swell and fresh cross-off winds, though the afternoon gets messy with a cross-shore wind. The 29th still has a solid 4ft, but the wind goes cross-shore, making it choppy.
So, for the best bet, aim for that Friday afternoon the 24th or Saturday morning the 25th for the most fun, clean conditions. For the bigger, more powerful stuff, the 27th is the call, but you’ll need to be a solid surfer for that. Trevone Bay is fairly exposed, so it can handle a swell, but be aware it can get crowded sometimes.
Rusty.
