Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right then, mate. Rusty here. Let’s have a proper look at what Trevone Bay’s got cookin’ over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be honest with ya, the start’s a bit of a slow burn, so don’t go rushin’ to grab your board just yet.
For the first week and a half, we’re lookin’ at a proper flat spell. From Monday the 6th right through to Thursday the 16th, the surf’s pretty much a write-off. The swell’s barely ticklin’ the shore, mostly under 3 feet, and the wind’s all over the shop, kickin’ up chop or blowin’ straight onshore. There’s a tiny window on the afternoon of Saturday the 11th where it goes glassy with a 4 ft swell from the NNW, but the period’s a short 7 seconds, so it’ll be weak and a bit crumbly. Honestly, not worth paddlin’ out for. The combined wave energy’s barely hittin’ three digits most days – you’re lookin’ at numbers like 64 and 79, which is just weak sauce. You’d be better off stayin’ home.
Now, the outlook starts to change a bit as we roll into the second week. Things get a bit more interesting from Thursday the 16th onwards, but it’s still not a slam dunk. Friday the 17th of July morning sees a jump in swell to 5 ft from the west, period’s a solid 9 seconds and combined energy is a chunky 386. But the wind is a light cross-onshore, so it’ll be a bit bumpy. The real standouts are shapin’ up for Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st, but this is for experienced heads only.
Monday the 20th of July mornin’ brings a hefty 8 ft swell from the west, and Tuesday the 21st of July mornin’ matches it at 8 ft as well, with the wind swingin’ offshore from the ESE. That’s the jewel in the crown for the whole forecast. That offshore wind (ESE, 16 mph) on an 8 ft west swell with a 9-second period and a massive combined energy of 1056 is proper heavy. That’s a powerful, clean, punchy wave. But, I’m tellin’ ya, this is strictly for experts. At that size, it’s gonna be dumpin’ and powerful, not the place for a learner. The crowds at Trevone Bay are listed as “sometimes,” so it might be a bit busy for a wave that big.
The water temp is sittin’ at 62°, which is about 3° warmer than normal for this time of year. So it’s a touch warmer than you’d expect, nothin’ crazy, but a bit of a treat for the skin.
So, to wrap it up: the first ten days are mostly a bust. The one true standout is the morning of Tuesday the 21st – that offshore wind and big west swell is the best on offer, but keep it for the big wave crew. Monday the 20th morning is also a big swell, but the wind’s more side-on, so it won’t be as clean. Everything else is a case of “maybe next time.” The spot takes a west swell best, and that’s what we’ve got for the best days.
Rusty.
