The Lowdown
Right then, let’s have a look at the 16-day window for Trevone Bay. To be straight with you, it’s going to be a tough watch for a while. The pattern is a long stretch of messy, onshore junk with barely any rideable energy. We’re talking about a proper gap of poor conditions that runs from now all the way through until the 28th of July. There’s just no quality on offer, mostly cross-on winds and choppy slop, with swell heights barely brushing 4 ft and combined energy sitting in the weak to moderate range (below 100). The swell periods are short, often 5 or 6 seconds, so you’re getting windswell, not proper groundswell.
The standout window, and really the only time to even think about a paddle, is the morning of Monday the 28th of July. The water temperature is a touch warmer than normal at 64°F, so that’s a nice bonus. For that morning, Trevone Bay picks up a 3 ft W swell with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 120. The real key here is the wind: it’s a glassy, 3 mph Westerly. That’s about as clean as it gets. The setup is a beach break, so don’t expect long walls, but with those conditions, it’ll be surfable and the crowd factor is "sometimes", so you might have a few out, but a window like this is rare. The swell is small enough for beginners, but the lack of power means it’ll be a grovel session.
After that, the wind picks back up on the 29th with a 5 ft W swell and 19 mph winds, which is too big and messy for a decent go. The 30th and 31st stay in the same boat with cross-onshore winds and lumpy conditions. So, take that glassy morning on the 28th, and don’t blink.
Rusty.
