The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Trevone Bay’s got cooking over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, it’s a pretty lean run for Trevone Bay. The whole first week is basically a write-off. We’ve got a long gap with no real surf to speak of from the 15th right through to the 29th of July. The swell is tiny, wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the scores are all at rock bottom. You’d be wasting your time paddling out for those waist-high, choppy leftovers.
The first proper sign of life shows up on the morning of Wednesday, 30 July. The swell finally bumps up to a solid 7 ft from the west, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy is strong at 613, so there’s proper power in the water. Wind is a light cross-onshore from the north at 6 mph, keeping things fairly clean. This is the standout of the whole outlook. It’s a big wave, over 5 ft, so it’s not one for the beginners, but for experienced surfers, this is your window. The water temp is a touch warmer than normal at 64°F, so it’s comfortable enough.
The afternoon of the 30th holds similar size at 6 ft from the west, but the wind swings more onshore from the NNW at 12 mph, making it a bit lumpier. Still, for this break, that’s as good as it gets.
The next morning, Thursday, 31 July, is described as marginal, with 5 ft west swell and light cross-onshore winds. The energy is still strong at 363, but the quality is questionable. After that, it drops off again quickly.
So, to sum it up: the first 15 days are a flat, choppy mess. The only real chance to get a wave is the morning of the 30th, and even then, it’s sizey and best left to the crew with big-wave boards. Otherwise, it’s a long wait.
Rusty.
