Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right, let’s have a look at what’s in store for Trevone Bay (Trevone-Bay) over the next couple of weeks.
First thing to say – and it’s a bit of a bummer – is that there’s nothing really worth paddling out for at the start. The forecast kicks off with just small, weak swell and a lot of cross-onshore wind. Sunday the 5th has a touch of WNW swell at 3ft but it’s messy, and that pretty much sets the tone for the next few days.
Monday and Tuesday the 6th and 7th stay small with poor surf conditions – just not happening. Wednesday the 8th brings a brief moment of hope with a glassy morning and the water feeling a touch warmer than normal at 63°, about 4° above average for this time of year. But the swell is tiny, only 2ft from the west, and while it’s glassy, the overall energy is weak (88). It’s surfable but very ordinary – a 1/10 day at best. After that, the wind swings back onshore and chops things up again through Thursday and Friday.
The weekend of the 11th and 12th sees a bit more size – up to 5ft from the NNW on Saturday afternoon – but the period is short at 7 seconds, the wind is a fresh cross-onshore, and the combined energy (283) is moderate. It’s lumpy and poor. Sunday the 12th cleans up a bit with cross-offshore wind, but the swell drops right off.
Then we hit a proper dry spell. From the 13th through to the 18th, the swell is tiny – mostly under 2ft – with weak energy. Winds stay clean at times, but there’s just no power to work with.
Now, here’s the standout. Saturday the 18th morning and afternoon finally shows something worth getting up for. Swell picks up to 5ft from the west, and while the period is a short 6 seconds, the combined energy jumps to 143 in the morning and 153 in the afternoon. The real beauty is the wind: Saturday morning is clean with a light cross-off, and by afternoon it goes glassy – that’s a gem. The break is fairly consistent here, and with a WNW optimum direction, that west swell is right in the slot. The water is still a touch warmer than normal for the date. It’s not huge, so fine for most surfers, and crowds are sometimes here, so you might have company but it won’t be a circus.
Sunday the 19th morning holds similar size at 5ft, again clean with light east winds, but the period is still short at 7 seconds. Energy is solid (218). It’s surfable but ordinary – a 1/10 again. That afternoon the wind swings onshore and spoils it.
Monday the 20th brings a big jump in swell – 7ft to 8ft from the WNW, with strong combined energy (519 and 595). But the wind is cross-onshore, and it’s just too messy. That size with short period (8 seconds) and onshore wind is a no-go for a clean surf – honestly, that setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing at Trevone.
So bottom line: if you want a wave, aim for Saturday the 18th. It’s the one bright spot in a pretty lean run. The gap of poor or no surf from the 5th through to the 17th is a long stretch, but it can happen here. Don’t write off the whole window – forecasts can change.
