Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what’s cookin' for Towradgi over the next couple of weeks. This is a solid little stretch of reef, always ready for a swell, and it looks like we've got a real mixed bag comin' our way.
Overall, we’re looking at a week and a half of marginal conditions with plenty of size but tricky winds, followed by a few clearer, cleaner windows, but the size drops right off. Then right at the tail end, the ocean wakes up proper. It’s a bit of a patience game.
We start off on Monday the 6th with some lumpy, cross-shore slop from a couple of solid SSE/SE swells pushing 8 ft. wind is howlin' from the south at 16 mph, so it's messy. The combined swell energy is strong at 1321 (moderate energy), but it's just not clean. Tuesday the 7th looks a touch better: the swell builds to 10 ft (strong-moderate energy at 3723) and the wind swings SSW, blowing cross-offshore, giving us clean lines. That’s the first real glimmer, but at 10 ft this is expert territory.
Now, the best day of the first week, and I mean the standout, is Wednesday the 8th morning. We've got a 8 ft SE swell rolling in with a clean cross-off breeze from the SSW. The water temp is about average for this time of year – nothing weird going on there. It’s still a solid 8 ft, so not for beginners, but for the experienced crew the wave quality will be there. The combined energy is still strong at 1468. This is the one to circle. The afternoon goes a bit cross-shore again, so get it early.
From Thursday the 9th the trend is down. Swell drops to 6 ft, then 5 ft through Friday the 10th. Friday afternoon is actually the most interesting of this lull: a glassy 5 ft SE swell (moderate energy at 439) with glassy wind conditions. That’s a sneaky little session for the longboard or a twin-fin, but the size is small and the energy is weak. Then we drop right off into the weekend: tiny 2 ft to 1 ft on Saturday and Sunday (12th-13th) and into Monday the 14th. Offshore winds keep it clean, but there’s no power – combined energy in the double-digits (140 down to 11). That's just a paddle, not a surf.
It stays in the doldrums for a few days, but then Wednesday the 15th morning is the absolute highlight of the entire 16-day run. Tuesday the 14th afternoon shows a little pulse of 3 ft from the S (moderate energy at 108), but Wednesday roars back: a 7 ft S swell (strong moderate-high energy at 1010), with a gentle cross-off breeze from the SW, clean conditions, and a nice 11-second period. This is genuine groundswell. It ain't for beginners, but the quality will be there. It’s the call of the fortnight. The afternoon gets howling cross-shore again at 19 mph, so it's a one-session wonder.
Thursday the 16th stays chunky with 10 ft S swells and cross-off winds but the energy drops a little to 1734. It’s still solid, but by then the wind will be picking up again. The end of the run has another clean but smaller window around Saturday the 18th morning (6 ft SE, combined energy 866) with glassy conditions.
Then, right at the very end, on Tuesday the 21st, we get a proper pulse: a 15 ft S swell, combined energy at 3629, with fresh offshore winds. This is big, powerful, and clean. It's a bomb for the experts only. At that size, the reef at Towradgi will be heavy and relentless.
So, to sum it up: the best windows are Wednesday 8th morning for a solid clean session, and Wednesday 15th morning for the real standout. The rest is either too small, too messy, or too big for most. Keep an eye on the long-range – that 21st pulse is promising but it's a long way off.
Rusty.
