The Lowdown
G’day, this is Rusty. Let’s have a look at the surf outlook for Towradgi. It’s a bit of a mixed bag over the next couple of weeks, with some decent windows but also plenty of quiet spells. The water temp is sitting at 64°F which is pretty much where you’d expect it to be for this time of year, nothing unusual.
The week kicks off with some small, messy surf. Sunday morning the 23rd has a weak 4ft swell from the south, but the wind is sloppy with a cross breeze and the energy is only moderate (215). It’s not great. Sunday afternoon and Monday both look pretty ordinary with tiny waves and onshore winds. Tuesday the 25th morning shows a bit of promise with a 4ft swell from the northeast, but the period is a short 6 seconds, so it’s a bit wonky. The wind is light and cross-off, so it’ll be clean, but the waves won’t have much punch. The combined energy is moderate (202). It’s nothing to write home about.
Now, the standout for the first week is Thursday morning the 27th. The swell bumps up to 4ft from the south with an 8-second period, but the real winner is the glassy conditions – zero wind. The combined energy is moderate (284), and it’ll be clean as a whistle. That’s your best chance for a proper session. Friday morning the 28th is also a gem – 3ft swell from the south with a 9-second period, and again, glassy. Energy is moderate (208). These two mornings are the pick of the bunch.
Crowds at Towradgi can be a factor sometimes, so keep that in mind.
We then hit a dry patch. Saturday the 29th through to Tuesday the 1st of September has some small, clean windows but the swell is tiny – mostly under 2ft. The morning of Monday the 31st of August has a very long-period 19-second groundswell from the south-southeast, but it’s only 2ft. That long period means it’ll be super clean but the sets will be few and far between. The energy is moderate (300) but the height is just too small for a proper ride. Wednesday the 2nd of September is a real low point with combined energy dropping to 78 (weak) and waves around 1–2ft. It’s a bit of a write-off.
The second week picks up slightly. Thursday the 3rd of September morning has a 4ft swell from the south-southeast with a short 6-second period and light cross-off wind. Energy is moderate (141). It’s surfable but not special. The afternoon gets a light offshore wind from the west-northwest and a 4ft swell, but the period is still short (7 seconds). Friday the 4th of September morning has a small 3ft swell with a light offshore wind, but it’s small. The combined energy is weak (135).
After that, we trail off into tiny, weak surf with poor winds through to the end of the forecast. The last few days from the 5th to the 7th of September have swells under 3ft and mostly onshore cross-winds. The energy drops to under 100 (weak). It’s a quiet end to the run.
If you’re heading out, aim for Thursday morning the 27th or Friday morning the 28th of August – those are the cleanest, most fun waves on offer. The rest is mostly a waiting game.
Rusty.
