G’day, Rusty here, checkin’ in on the waves for Towradgi. The first few days are gonna be a bit of a bust, so don’t get too keen, but there’s some real gems later on if you can wait. We’ve got a full 16-day window ahead, and after a rough start, things clean up proper.
Right now on Sunday the 5th, it’s messy. There’s a chunky 10-foot swell out of the SSE with a 12-second period, but the wind is a fresh cross-shore out of the S at 19 mph, making it lumpy and hard to surf. The combined energy is pumping strong at 2799. Water temp’s about 66°, which is a bit warmer than usual for the season by about 2°. Not crazy, but a little warmer than normal. Monday the 6th is the same story—8-foot SSE swell, cross-winds, energy dropping. Skip it.
Tuesday the 7th turns a corner. The swell holds at 10-foot from the SSE, but the wind swings to a moderate cross-offshore from the SSW at 12 mph, cleaning it up nicely. The energy cranks to 3464 in the morning and then 4557 in the afternoon when it goes SE with an 11-second period. This is big, powerful groundswell—clean faces, but at 10-foot it’s only for experts. The longer period gives it real punch, and on a reef break like Towradgi, the waves should line up well, though the 11-second period might make it a touch straight. Crowds are sometimes a factor here, so you might have some locals out.
Wednesday the 8th is smaller at 8-foot SE swell, still clean in the morning with a cross-off breeze, energy moderate at 1460, but the afternoon gets a bit gusty cross-shore. Morning is your bet. Thursday the 9th drops to 6-foot, with a light cross-off and clean surf, energy at 827. This is the first day that’s doable for intermediate surfers.
Friday the 10th, 6-foot with a light breeze and clean faces in the AM—energy at 542. Saturday the 11th is tiny at 4-foot with glassy conditions and a 9-second period, but the energy is weak at 248. Not much to write home about.
From Sunday the 12th through Tuesday the 14th, it goes flat. Swells drop to 1-foot and below, energy in the double digits. That’s a 3-day gap of pretty much nothing. Wednesday the 15th has a weird spike to 6-foot but with a strong 25 mph cross-off and rain—stay home.
Now for the good stuff. Thursday the 16th kicks off with a 10-foot S swell, fresh cross-off wind at 19 mph, and strong energy at 3417. Clean, but big—experts only. Friday the 17th is a standout. Morning has an 8-foot SSE swell with a light cross-off breeze and energy at 1876. The afternoon pumps up to 10-foot SE swell with a very long period of 15 seconds and huge energy of 4024. That’s classic groundswell—long lines, heaps of power. With the wind light but cross-onshore in the afternoon, it’ll have a bit of texture, but the wave quality will be excellent for experienced surfers. The very long period means long waits between sets, but when they come, they’ll be well-shaped and really pushy—perfect for the reef.
Saturday the 18th is another cracker: 10-foot SE swell, 12-second period, clean cross-off in the morning, then a gentle offshore in the afternoon at 9 mph with energy at 1760. That afternoon session will be glassy and lined up real nice. Sunday the 19th, 6-foot SW swell with a light cross-off, energy at 772—good for intermediates. The afternoon jumps back to 7-foot with a moderate offshore from the W at 16 mph, energy at 2007, and excellent conditions for the crew that know what they’re doing. Monday the 20th rounds it out with 8-foot SSE swell, clean with gentle cross-off and offshore winds, energy at 1171 and 969—a solid finish.
For the best on offer, I’d say Friday the 17th afternoon and Saturday the 18th afternoon are the real standouts. Big, long-period SE groundswell, clean winds, and a reef break that loves that direction. If you’re experienced and after some power, that’s your window.
Rusty.
