The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s talk about what’s coming in feet and miles per hour.
It’s a slow start. Don’t bother checking the surf for the first several days – nothing worth paddling out for until Sunday the 19th. The early stuff is all windblown and weak.
Sunday morning the 19th at Towradgi (reef) is the first real chance. Swell is about 5ft out of the ENE with a 10-second period, and the energy is solid (combined energy of all swells directed here: 467). The wind is glassy, out of the south at 3 mph. That means smooth, clean surf. Water temp is 65°, which is about normal for this time of year.
Monday the 20th is another clean morning. A light cross-offshore wind from the NNW at 6 mph, with 5ft ENE swell, 10-second period (combined energy: 577). This is the top pick of the early week. You might see a few others out, but it’s worth it.
Tuesday the 21st holds clean with glassy conditions and 4ft ENE swell (combined energy: 373). Good, just a little smaller.
Experienced surfers, keep Friday the 24th in mind. That morning brings a strong 8ft south swell, 10-second period (combined energy: 1556). The wind is cross-offshore from the WSW at 9 mph, keeping it clean. This one’s for experts only – too big for beginners.
Monday the 27th is another standout: glassy conditions with a 6ft south swell, 10-second period (combined energy: 643). Very clean, with a light NNW breeze at 3 mph.
Later on, Wednesday the 29th offers 5ft south swell with a moderate offshore wind from the WSW at 16 mph (combined energy: 609). It’s clean but windy, still solid for those who can handle it.
Best bets: Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th for the cleaner, smaller days, and Friday the 24th for the big stuff.
Rusty.
