Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a patchy run at Towradgi over the next couple of weeks. This stretch is a reef setup, super consistent, exposed to swell. Water temp is sittin’ around 66°, which is about 2° warmer than usual for this time of year – nothin’ wild, just a touch of extra warmth in the water.
Right now, Monday the 6th, it’s a write-off. 8 ft of SSE swell but it’s cross-shore junk with 16 mph winds on it. Moderate wave energy (1232) but the conditions are messy. Tuesday the 7th is the first proper look – 10 ft on the face from the SSE, cross-off breeze 12 mph, clean surf. The combined energy jumps to 3636, solid moderate power. Swell period is 10 seconds, so it’s got a bit of shape. This is the standout early in the run: Tuesday morning. By the afternoon, it pushes 12 ft from the SE with an 11-second period, cross-off at 16 mph, energy 4837 – strong. That’s a lot of juice for a reef, and it’s clean. A bit hefty for the average punter at that size, but for the crew who know their line, that Tuesday arvo session is the pick of the first week.
Wednesday the 8th drops a little to 8 ft, still clean in the morning but the wind goes cross-shore in the arvo. Thursday the 9th eases to 6 ft, clean morning again. Friday the 10th morning has light winds and 6 ft clean surf – a nice little window. Saturday the 11th morning is glassy off the NW wind, only 4 ft but clean as a whistle.
Then there’s a long dry spell. From Saturday afternoon the 11th right through to Wednesday the 15th evening, it’s small, weak, or blown out. A few days of barely surfable 0.7 ft to 3 ft waves, mostly offshore but tiny. That’s nearly a week of not much.
Thursday the 16th morning sees a sudden spike to 10 ft from the south, cross-off 16 mph, energy 2758 – moderate to strong – but the scores aren’t high. It’s raw but not clean enough to get excited.
Now, the real standout is Friday the 17th. This is the one to circle on the calendar. Friday morning – 15 ft from the south, 13-second period, cross-off 9 mph, and the combined energy hits 9636. That’s exceptional wave energy. The period is long, over 11 seconds, so it’s a proper groundswell. On a reef like Towradgi, that’s gonna line up. This is big, expert-only territory – over 8 ft – but for those with the skills, it’s the best wave of the whole 16-day outlook. The afternoon drops to 12 ft with an 11-second period, still solid.
Saturday the 18th morning goes glassy, dead calm, with 6 ft from the SSE. That’s a gem of a session too, clean and workable for more folks. After that, the run fades into small offshore junk through to the end, with a weird blip on Tuesday the 21st where a 20-second period swell shows up, but it’s tiny – 1 ft to 2 ft – so all that long-period energy barely breaks. That’s more of a curiosity than a surf.
So, to sum it up: Tuesday the 7th for the first proper big clean swell, and Friday the 17th morning is the absolute standout – huge, clean, and powerful. Saturday the 18th morning is the cleanest smaller option.
