Table - best surf conditions forecast for Towradgi over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, ol’ Rusty here, lookin’ at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks around Towradgi. This spot’s a reef, a very consistent one that starts to work with a SE swell. Right now, it’s pretty quiet, but there’s some late hope if you’ve got patience.
First thing to note: we are in a bit of a flat spell. From midday today, Sunday the 12th, right through to Tuesday the 14th, it’s tiny. We’re talking ankle-slappers with energy barely registering (93 down to 5 in the combined energy reading). Not worth paddling out for. The winds are offshore and clean, but with only 0.6 ft to 2 ft of swell at a short period, it’s just not happening. Don’t kid yourself.
Now, Wednesday the 15th is where things start to stir, but it’s not for the faint-hearted. The swell jumps to a solid 8 ft from the south with a moderate period of 9 seconds. That combined energy rating hits a whopping 1807 – that’s a lot of water moving. But the wind is a sketchy cross-offshore from the SSW, and with that size, it’s going to be a beast. This is for experienced surfers only, and even then, the quality is marginal. It’s big, it’s raw, and it’s pushing the limits. Thursday the 16th stays messy with strong sideshore winds, so give that a miss.
We get an interesting window on Friday the 17th. The swell drops back to a manageable 5 ft from the east, and with a clean SW wind in the morning, it’s looking like a good option. The energy is still decent (353), and the reef should start to shape up some fun lines. Saturday the 18th morning holds similar clean conditions with 4 ft east swell.
But the true standout, the one you circle on the calendar, is Sunday the 19th. This is the star of the show. We wake up to a solid 7 ft of groundswell from the east-northeast, with a very long period of 11 seconds. The kicker? The wind is glassy. That means Towradgi is going to look like a picture. The combined energy is massive at 1240. Now, this is still a big swell, over 7 ft, so it’s for the experienced crew. That long period will mean powerful, well-shaped waves that hold up on the reef. The morning session is where you want to be, because the afternoon turns cross-onshore and chops it up. This is the day to be out there.
After that, we see the swell ease, but there are still tidy morning sessions. Monday the 20th morning has 6 ft from the ENE with a light NW cross-offshore and good energy (776) – another very good option. Tuesday the 21st morning has clean 4 ft waves, and Wednesday the 22nd morning has clean 4 ft waves, but they get a bit mixed up later.
Towards the end of the month, from Thursday the 24th into the weekend, there’s a bit of a windswell pulse from the south with moderate energy, but it’s often cross-shore or onshore, so the quality is a bit lower. You’ll find some clean windows on the 25th morning, but nothing tops that epic Sunday the 19th.
So to sum it up: put your energy into the 19th of July. That Sunday morning with glassy conditions and a solid, long-period east swell is your best bet. Get it while it’s good.
Rusty.
