The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with ya – this is shaping up as a pretty quiet stretch for Towradgi. We’ve got a bit of a slow start with hardly anything worth paddling out for until the back half of the weekend. If you’re keen, hold out for Sunday morning.
Saturday 19 July morning brings a jump to 6ft of ENE swell at 11 seconds – that’s moderate energy (886). The water’s sitting at 65°, about average for this time of year. The wind is a gentle cross-shore from the south, keeping it slight cross-chop but workable. This is a reef setup that handles an exposed SE swell, so the ENE direction is okay but not optimum. It’s surfable, though the tide and conditions are a bit questionable – more for the experienced crew. It’s very consistent here, and crowds are only sometimes an issue, so you might grab a few without too much company.
Sunday 19 July afternoon drops a touch to 6ft, still ENE at 11 seconds, with moderate energy (756). Light cross-onshore from the SE brings small ripples but still rideable.
Monday 20 July morning is the real standout. Clear skies, light cross-offshore NNW breeze at 6 mph, and 5ft of ENE swell at 10 seconds with 613 (moderate energy). That’s clean surf. This is the pick of the week – good shape, decent size, and glassy conditions early. Grab it before the NE wind picks up in the arvo and chops it out.
Tuesday 21 July morning is dead flat calm – glassy as, with 4ft of ENE at 10 seconds (330, moderate energy). If you’re desperate for a quiet paddle, it’ll be pretty but ordinary.
From Wednesday 22 July through Thursday 31 July, it’s mostly small, messy, or clean but weak. There’s a brief window Friday 31 July morning with a 7ft S swell at 8 seconds – 472 (moderate energy) – but the period is short and the wind’s cross-offshore from the SW. That size is getting up there, and the short period will make it lumpy and challenging, really only for the experienced. Not one for beginners.
After that, it tails off into tiny, weak surf through to the end of the outlook. A few days in late July and early August offer clean conditions but barely a ripple – 0.7ft to 2ft, mostly with moderate offshore winds. Long-period stuff from the ESE and SE around 13-16 seconds shows up on 28-30 July, but it’s tiny (0.7-1.0ft) and more of a whisper than a wave.
Overall, there’s nothing massive or epic on the cards. The best bet is Monday 20 July morning – clean, head-high sets with a consistent reef and light offshore breeze. Get in early.
Rusty.
