Table - best surf conditions forecast for Torquay Front Beach over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: Torquay Front Beach is a protected, beginner-friendly spot that’s been on a flat spell. The water’s a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, sitting at 14°, but that’s the only thing out of the ordinary.
Right through the start, from Wednesday the 8th of July through to Tuesday the 21st, there’s basically nothing doing. Tiny scraps of swell – maybe 1ft at best – and mostly the kind of combo that leaves your board on the sand. Lots of clean looking water, sure, but not worth paddling out for. Winds bounce around a fair bit; some mornings you’ll see light offshore breezes from the NW or WNW, but without any real swell, it’s a glassy lagoon rather than a surf session. The energy in the water stays low the whole time, often zero.
Now, the standout – if you can call it that – comes on Wednesday the 15th of July. A big pulse of SSW swell hits, pushing 13ft with a 15-second period. Combined energy rockets up high, so the ocean’s got serious grunt. But here’s the thing: that’s a lot of power for a sheltered beginner beach. The wind’s cross-off in the morning, so it’ll be clean, but this is expert-only territory. The swell’s well overhead, the period is long, and this break is a beach. It’s got a habit of racing straight with that kind of energy. Crowds are possible here on a day like that. Grab it early if you’ve got the chops.
If you’re a beginner, this whole forecast is a write-off. By Saturday the 18th, the energy drops back to ordinary – 3ft, gentle offshore, but nothing exciting. After that, it’s flat again all the way through to the end.
No surf to get excited about for a couple of weeks. That’s the reality here.
Rusty.
