Right, gather 'round, grab a coffee. Rusty here, looking at the surf for the next couple of weeks. I'll be blunt, it's a tough stretch for Terra Mar. The swell is hanging around, but the wind is a real problem most of the time. It's going to be a waiting game, and you'll need to pick your moments carefully.
The pattern starts with a little bit of energy from the SSW, but it's battling a persistent cross-onshore wind. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 69°, so that's one small win.
The first few days, Friday through to Sunday, the waves are small, around 3 ft to 3 ft. The swell period is a decent 14 to 19 seconds, so there's some groundswell in there, but that cross-onshore wind is just ruining it. The water is choppy and bumpy, and the combined energy is moderate, around 400-470 (420 to 470 range). The forecast calls it poor, and I'm not going to argue. It's a frustrating start.
Monday the 6th of July through to Thursday the 10th of July, the swell drops a little but the wind, while still mostly cross-onshore, gets lighter. The wave heights are around 3 ft to 4 ft, and the period stays solid at 16 to 18 seconds. The combined energy picks up a bit, hitting 812 (812) on Tuesday morning, which is a moderate energy reading. The forecast nudges up to "marginal" on a couple of those days, but it's still not clean. The Wednesday morning, the 8th, is the best of a bad bunch with an onshore wind from the SW and the swell from the SSW at 4 ft, period 16 seconds. It's still not great, but it's the only window that might be worth a look if you're desperate.
From Friday the 10th of July onwards, it's a proper flat spell. The wind is still a problem, the swell drops to 1 ft to 2 ft, and the combined energy falls to between 159 and 245 (159 to 245 range). The bouts of light wind on the 14th and 16th are a tease, but the swell is just too small. The forecast is all "poor surf conditions" with a score of 0. There's a glimmer of hope on the 18th of July, with a little more size (3 ft) and a long period (18 seconds), but the wind is onshore again. Honestly, it's a blank run.
For the entire 16-day window, there's nothing I'd recommend getting wet for. The unfavorable winds and small, inconsistent swell mean the best wave quality is just not there. The setup is a point break, so it has potential, but it just needs everything to line up. For now, it's more of a kite surfer's window than a paddler's, especially with the strong cross-onshore winds and moderate swell energy. Keep the board in the car, and keep an eye on the forecast. Sometimes these long runs of poor conditions break, but this one looks like a solid skip.
Rusty.
