Table - best surf conditions forecast for Terra Mar over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s going on with Terra Mar.
Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with you – the next week and a half is pretty grim. We’ve got a stretch of poor to marginal conditions that just won’t quit. The first solid recommendation doesn’t really pop up until late in the 16-day window, so don’t get your hopes up for the next week or so. There’s a real gap here.
We start off on Wednesday, July 8th with a bit of a tease. The swell is a modest 4 ft from the SSW with a very long 16-second period, carrying a moderate combined energy (898). The water is a touch warmer than normal at 69°. But the wind is on it, and the report calls it marginal, so it’s not really worth paddling out for. That kind of long-period swell from the SSW is better suited for a point break like Terra Mar, but it’s just not clean enough.
The rest of that first week and into the second week is a write-off. Thursday the 9th through to the 16th is a mix of poor and marginal surf, with swell heights dropping from 3 ft down to 1 ft. The wind is mostly cross-on or on, and the comments are all “poor surf conditions” or “marginal.” The energy drops right off into the low hundreds (200-300 range). Not worth a second look.
We finally get a little flicker of life on Saturday, July 18th. The swell bumps up to 3 ft from the SW with a very long 18-second period, and the energy jumps to 468 (moderate). The wind is light and cross-on, but it’s still only marginal. A glimmer, but not a standout.
Now, the real standout – and the only one I’d call a true standout in this whole 16-day run – is on Sunday, July 19th. The morning sees a solid 5 ft swell from the S, with a 16-second period and a huge combined energy of 1696. That’s a proper pulse of energy, moderate to strong. The wind is light and cross-on. It’s still listed as “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions,” but compared to everything else, this is the day to circle. For a point break like Terra Mar, that longer-period S swell could set up some nice lines. The crowd factor is “sometimes,” so you might have company, but for that quality of energy, it’s worth it. Keep in mind, at 5 ft, it’s getting a bit much for total beginners.
The afternoon of the 19th holds pretty similar, with 5 ft from the S and energy at 1823, but the wind stays cross-on. It’s still a solid day.
After that, we slide back into a mix of poor and marginal conditions through the 23rd, with a final blip on Thursday, July 23rd afternoon showing 5 ft from the S with a 16-second period and energy of 1440, paired with light onshore wind. Another marginal option, but not as clean as the 19th.
So, to sum it up: the next week and a half is a whole lot of nothing. Don’t rush. The best bet is Sunday, July 19th at Terra Mar. That’s your window. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s the only one with real potential energy in the water.
Rusty.
