The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here, pulling up the local scoop on Terra Mar. Let’s have a look at what the next couple of weeks are serving up.
Right off the bat, this is going to be a bit of a frustrating stretch. The whole run is plagued by onshore and cross-onshore winds, which is gonna keep things lumpy and uninviting. The water is running about 72° currently, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – feels like a bit of a tropical bath out there, but the surf just isn't matching the vibe.
The first real push of swell that’s worth paddling out for won't show until the 25th of July, Saturday morning. Even then, it’s marginal. We’re looking at a 3ft SW groundswell with a long 21-second period. The combined swell energy is moderate to strong (1104). The winds are light and onshore from the WSW, so it’s not going to be pretty. It’s a beach/point setup, so that long period is going to make it lully and probably straighten out on the banks. Honestly, this is more of a "sit and wait" kind of day than a standout.
Things start to get a bit more interesting heading into the end of July and the start of August. On the 27th of July (Monday), we see a similar story – 4ft SW swell (1165 energy), but still those pesky cross-onshore winds. The real build happens on the 28th of July (Tuesday) afternoon, where the swell bumps up to 5ft from the SSW with a period of 18 seconds and energy hitting 1437. Still, the wind is light and onshore, keeping it marginal.
The best chance for a decent wave looks like it’ll land on Friday, the 31st of July. The swell is pushing 5ft to 6ft from the S, with a solid 15-second period. The combined swell energy on Friday afternoon is the strongest in the entire forecast at 1510 – that’s strong wave energy. The morning has light WSW onshore winds, but the afternoon could see it clean up slightly with light cross-onshore. This is still a tricky forecast because of the wind direction, but it's the closest we get to having some size and juice. Be warned, at 6ft this is pushing into intermediate territory and will feel solid out there. This spot is a point break, and with a SSW-S swell direction, it might actually wrap in okay.
After that, the first couple of days of August drop off quickly. By Sunday the 2nd, we’re back to small, weak, and messy with poor surf conditions. The winds stay onshore and the energy crashes back down to nothing.
Honestly, there's no true standout window here. The closest we have is that Friday the 31st, but it’s a marginal call due to the wind. For now, keep your expectations low and check back closer to the date. Forecasts can change, but right now it’s a waiting game.
