Table - best surf conditions forecast for Terra Mar over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way for Terra Mar over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it’s a bit of a slow start. We’ve got a few days of marginal, small surf before things get interesting. The water’s sittin’ at about 69°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so the wettie might feel a little more comfortable than usual.
The first real chance to get wet comes Thursday morning, July 9th. We’re looking at a 3ft SSW groundswell with a very long period of 16 seconds. That’s some serious energy coming through (641 combined energy). The problem? The wind is onshore from the SSW at 9 mph. It’s going to be a bit messy. The afternoon clears up with a lighter breeze, but the swell’s still the same size. It’s surfable, but you’ll have to work for it, and the scores are low.
Friday through to the middle of next week looks pretty poor. The swell drops right off, down to 3ft and smaller, with periods shortening. The wind stays onshore or cross-onshore most of the time, making it choppy. There’s a brief moment on Wednesday afternoon, July 15th, where the wind goes glassy with a tiny 1ft swell, but it’s really just a tease. That’s not worth the trip.
Now, hold onto your boards, because the real standout window arrives Sunday, July 19th. We get a solid pulse of southerly swell. Sunday morning brings 4ft at 19 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 1658 – that’s moderate to strong energy. Sunday afternoon it builds to 6ft with a 17-second period, energy hitting 2412! The wind is cross-onshore but light, so it’ll be a bit bumpy but still very much on.
The peak of this run is Monday, July 20th. Monday morning we’re looking at 7ft of S swell with a 15-second period. The wind is onshore but light, and the energy is huge at 2177. Monday afternoon the wind drops to near glassy from the WSW at 3 mph, and the swell holds at 7ft. This is overhead and powerful. It’s not a beginner’s wave at this size; this is for experienced surfers only. The long period is a classic groundswell, and at a point break like Terra Mar, that setup usually means proper, lined-up waves.
The crowd factor is worth a mention here. Terra Mar can get crowded sometimes, so with a swell of this quality, expect some company in the water.
After that peak, Tuesday the 21st sees the swell drop back to 6ft, still surfable but less energy, and by Wednesday we’re back into the small stuff again. The second week is mostly more of the same – small, weak swells with onshore winds. Nothing to get excited about.
For the pick of the fortnight, it’s gotta be Monday, July 20th. That 7ft S swell with glassy or light wind is the best we’ve got – powerful, clean, and holding good form. If you’re an experienced surfer, that’s your day.
Stay stoked, and keep an eye on the sky.
Rusty.
