Table - best surf conditions forecast for Terra Mar over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what we’ve got for Terra Mar.
Honestly, it’s a tough stretch ahead. The first week is a real write-off with nothing worth paddling out for. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the wave heights are tiny, so you’re looking at a lot of flat, choppy water. The combined swell energy is weak, mostly in the 200 to 500 range, and the swell direction is locked in from the SSW or SW, which isn’t ideal for this spot. There’s a gap of about a week from the start with no real surf to speak of.
The first sign of life comes around Saturday, July 18th. Out of nowhere, the energy picks up to 701 on Saturday morning, and then 918 on Saturday afternoon, with the swell swinging around to the SSE. The height is still only 3 ft to 3 ft, but the period is a solid 17 to 18 seconds, so that’s proper groundswell energy. Winds are light and straight onshore from the WSW, which isn’t perfect, but it’s not choppy. The water temperature is about average for this time of year.
Then Sunday, July 19th, brings the best chance we’ll see. The morning has swell hitting 4 ft from the south, with a period of 13 seconds and energy at 865. The wind is on from the WSW at 9 mph, which is a bit of a bummer, but the size is there for some fun waves. It’s a point break that’s fairly consistent, and with an optimum swell direction from the WSW, this south swell is a bit off-angle, but the energy is enough to push through. The afternoon on the 19th drops to 3 ft but the period stretches back to 17 seconds and energy is still high at 791. This is the standout period.
After that, it fades back into the marginal zone. Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st have small, weak surf with light winds, but nothing that grabs you. Wednesday the 22nd through to Friday the 24th is back on the tiny side, with swell energy dropping below 300 most of the time.
There is a late pulse on Saturday, July 25th. The morning shows 5 ft from the south at 13 seconds with energy of 841. Wind is on from the SW at 9 mph. The afternoon is similar, 5 ft with energy of 822, but the wind swings to a light cross-on from the WSW. That’s still not clean, but it’s the biggest wave height of the whole forecast, so if you’re an experienced surfer and you don’t mind a bit of bump, it could be a go. For beginners, that 5 ft is getting into the too-big zone, and with the onshore wind, it’ll be a handful.
Sunday the 26th drops back to 4 ft and energy at 747, with similar cross-on conditions.
So, the best on offer is the weekend of July 19th and 20th, with some decent groundswell energy, and then another shot on July 25th for size. It’s nothing to write home about overall, but there are a few windows if you’re keen to get wet.
Rusty.
