Table - best surf conditions forecast for Takapuna-North Reef over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Takapuna-North Reef over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it's looking pretty bleak for a while.
The whole 16-day window is a tough one for us. There's a massive gap at the start with absolutely nothing worth paddling out for. From now until the 23rd of July, the swell is tiny and the comments are all "poor surf conditions." You're looking at days and days of flat, weak energy, with readings barely getting into double digits for combined energy. It’s a real dry spell, and the only company you'll have is the seagulls.
The first real glimmer of hope doesn't show up until Friday, the 24th of July. We finally see some life with a 4 ft swell from the NE, and with a period of 13 seconds, that's got some proper groundswell energy behind it (combined energy of 406). The winds are looking tidy, with a dead calm in the morning turning into a clean cross-offshore breeze in the afternoon. That's the standout session of the whole outlook – the only day that's marked as "expect good surf conditions" at all. It's not massive, but for this spot and this stretch, it's the one to point the car towards. The water temp is sitting around 57°, which is about what you'd expect for this time of year.
Saturday the 25th holds a similar size at 4 ft to 4 ft, but it loses that long period and the winds get a bit stronger. It’s still surfable, but not as clean or as powerful as Friday. After that, we drop back into small, weak surf to close out the window.
So to sum it up: you're waiting over a week and a half for the one day that's worth it, and that's Friday the 24th. Get it while you can, because the rest of the run is a write-off.
Rusty.
