Table - best surf conditions forecast for Takapuna-North Reef over the next 16 days.
Right, mate, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a flat spell for Takapuna-North Reef. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a dud for paddle surfing. We’re looking at a long stretch of nothing until the very end of the period, and even then it’s not much to write home about. The water’s sitting at 57°, which is a bit colder than usual for this time of year, so you’ll want the thick rubber.
The first real sign of any life shows up on Saturday, July 26th, with a weak little pulse of swell. The energy is still low, only about 89 (moderate wave energy), coming from the NE with a 13-second period. That’s a long period groundswell, but it’s tiny, around 2ft. The wind is a light cross-shore from the S, which is alright, but the surf conditions are still rated as poor. It’s just not enough to get excited about.
Sunday the 27th is more of the same, with that 2ft NE swell hanging around, energy around 90 (moderate wave energy), and a light cross-onshore breeze messing it up a bit. Still no good.
After that, it fades right back out. The forecast is pretty grim. For a spot that’s already inconsistent, this blank run is more normal than a surprise. It’s not the kind of place that fires up often, so don’t hold your breath.
If you’re desperate for a paddle, Monday, July 28th morning might look glassy, but with a tiny 0.7ft swell and a 12-second period, it’s barely a ripple. The wind is glassy from the SSE, but there’s nothing to ride. This whole setup, with the onshore winds and tiny weak swell, honestly looks more interesting for a kite than a surfboard.
Hang in there, but this one’s a write-off. Rusty.
