Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Hey everyone, Rusty here. We've got a bit of a split forecast ahead. The water is sitting at 73.4°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
The first few days are a total bust. The swell on the 4th and 5th has some energy but the winds are all cross or cross-onshore, making it choppy and messy. After that, it goes near flat for most of the first week. Don't bother waxing up.
Things finally turn around in the second week. The only real standout is St Mikes. It's a reef break that's fairly consistent, but it's for advanced surfers only and it does get busy. The best call is Sunday July 19th, in the afternoon. There's a 3.9ft swell from the S, but the real beauty is the glassy conditions – flat calm, no wind. That's clean as a whistle. The wave energy is moderate at 329, and the 11-second period gives it some decent power. It'll be worth the wait, but expect a few other guys out there with the same idea.
Friday July 10th is a decent fallback. Both morning and afternoon have 5.6ft to 5.9ft of S swell with strong energy (1416 and 1527), but the cross-shore winds will make it bumpy. It'll be lumpy but there's size out there. The next morning, Saturday July 11th, has 6.6ft of S swell but with an onshore wind, so it'll be choppy and messy. That's big, raw power (1377 energy) for experienced paddlers only. The long-period swell (14-15 seconds) makes it a proper groundswell, which St Mikes handles well as a reef.
After that, the surf drops off again. That Sunday the 19th is your golden window. Stay patient, the wait will be worth it for that glassy session.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Warm (max 22°C on Tue morning, min 15°C on Sat night). Wind will be generally light. | Days 5-7 Weather SummaryLight rain (total 9mm), mostly falling on Thu morning. Warm (max 23°C on Tue afternoon, min 17°C on Wed night). Winds decreasing (fresh winds from the SSW on Wed afternoon, calm by Thu night). | ||||||||||||||||||||
