Table - best surf conditions forecast for St Mikes over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk about St Mikes.
Right now, there’s a real flat spell. The first week or so of July is looking pretty grim. We got a few days coming up with some swell moving in, but the wind and conditions just aren’t playing ball. It’s a bit of a slow start.
The one session that’s got my heart beating a bit faster is Friday the 10th, first thing in the morning. The stars almost line up here. We’ve got a solid 7.9ft swell from the south, and it’s a long-period groundswell of 16 seconds. That’s a lot of energy coming through, and the combined energy reading is up there at 2943 – that’s some serious power. Now, this is a reef break, so that long-period groundswell is going to wrap in beautifully and really juice up the shape. More importantly, the wind is glassy. Absolutely glassy. East at only 5 km/h. That means clean, smooth conditions. The downside is this swell is big, over 8ft, so you need to be an expert to handle it. Beginners, stay on the beach. Also, this spot sees crowds often, so expect company if it’s as good as it looks. The water temperature is sitting at 72.7°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year, so you might not need the thickest rubber.
Friday afternoon drops off a bit. The swell backs down to 7.2ft and the wind swings south, making it a bit bumpy. Saturday the 11th is a big step down. By Sunday the 12th it’s pretty much done, and we slide back into a long, flat, and messy pattern that lasts right through until the end of the 16-day window. There are patches of weak, short-period swell after that, but nothing worth paddling out for. It’s just day after day of poor conditions.
So honestly, for the whole period, the only window that really stands out is Friday morning, July 10th. Get it while you can.
