Table - best surf conditions forecast for Laguna Beach - South Crescent Bay over the next 16 days.

Hey folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks at South Crescent Bay are a real mixed bag, with very little to get excited about until we get deep into the second week. The water's sitting at about 66°, which is pretty much average for this time of year, so no major surprises there. The energy is weak for the most part, and the wind just won't play ball.

Looking at Tuesday the 7th, we've got a tiny 3 ft SSW swell rolling in with a nice long 18-second period, but the wind is onshore from the west at 9 mph, messing it up. The combined energy is moderate at 709, but don't let that fool you – it's a marginal day at best.

Wednesday the 8th through the whole next week is basically a write-off. The swell hangs around 3 ft to 3 ft from the SSW, but the period drops, and we're looking at cross-onshore or cross winds from the south and west, 6 to 9 mph. The wave comments keep saying "poor surf conditions" or "marginal." Combined energy drops from 666 down to 121 by Thursday the 16th – just weak, messy dribble. The wave heights are barely breaking, and the wind is never clean. There's a serious gap with no worthwhile surf from Wednesday the 8th all the way through to Friday the 18th.

Now, Saturday the 18th morning finally shows a glimmer of hope. The swell is still tiny at 2 ft from the south, but the period is a solid 16 seconds. The key here is the wind: glassy conditions, a slight air. That’s the first time we see clean conditions. The combined energy jumps back up to 548 (moderate), and the comment is "expect good surf conditions." This is your best bet in the whole outlook – a rare, clean window on a long-period south groundswell. It won't be big but it'll be rideable and clean.

Saturday afternoon the 18th gets a bit bigger (3 ft, SSE), with a light cross-offshore breeze, so it stays clean. Crowds are "often" here, so expect company.

Sunday the 19th morning sees a bump in size to 4 ft from the south, with combined energy hitting a strong 1067. The period is 14 seconds, so it has some punch. But the wind is cross-onshore from the south at 6 mph, which will put a bit of texture on it. It's marginal, but for a bigger-wave option, it’s the next best thing. After that, Monday and Tuesday drop back into poor, onshore wind slop.

So there you have it. A long, frustrating stretch of no surf, then a shot at some clean, small waves on the 18th morning, and possibly a bit more size on the 19th if you can live with a little breeze.

Rusty.
