The Lowdown

Alright, time to switch to feet and degrees. This is Rusty.

For South Crescent Bay, things are looking slim for the next couple of weeks. The first few days are a bust – tiny, weak swell with onshore and cross-onshore winds ruining the shape. Swell heights are 2ft to 2ft, with short-period energy that’s just not gonna form up. Water temperature is 73°, which is a huge 5° above normal for this time of year – very unusual.

Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th see a little bump, with Saturday afternoon hitting 3ft at 16 seconds from the SSW, but still cross-onshore, and the notes say "marginal." Not worth planning around. The whole week of the 18th to the 24th is a rough stretch of 1ft to 3ft, mostly from the SSW and SW.

The only real standout is way out on Tuesday the 25th afternoon: a solid 4ft S swell at 15 seconds, with moderate-strong energy (869). Light cross-onshore wind, but that’s the cleanest we’re gonna get. The swell direction (S) is a close match to the preferred SSW. Wednesday morning the 26th still has 4ft but fades fast.

Crowds at South Crescent Bay can get thick when the surf shows up. For the long gap of nearly flat conditions, that Tuesday afternoon is the one to hold out for.

Rusty out.
