The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for our local stretch.
We’re looking at a pretty flat start to the period. The first few days are a write-off with tiny, weak waves and poor conditions. Monday the 31st of August has a 3ft SSW swell but it’s chopped up by onshore winds, so not worth a paddle. Tuesday and Wednesday are even smaller, barely 2ft. Honestly, it’s a grim start.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Sunday morning, September 6th. That’s our stand-out window. Overnight, a solid 6ft S swell rolls in, carrying good energy (1931 combined energy) and a 15-second period – that’s serious groundswell. The morning has a light offshore wind from the NE, which will make it glassy and clean. The direction from the S is a good match for the spot’s optimum SSW. This is solid, powerful surf, probably too much for beginners, but for experienced surfers, it’s going to be excellent. The break is a beach and reef mix, so with that long period, the sets will be fat and well-spaced, making it easier to get out back. Expect crowds here as it’s often busy.
The afternoon on the 6th gets a bit tricky with a strong NNE cross-offshore breeze and moderate rain, so the morning is the time to be out. The rest of the week after that drops off again. Monday the 7th gets blown out by a near-gale SSE wind, making it messy and dangerous. The rest of the second week just fades back into small, weak, and onshore rubbish. Nothing else comes close to that Sunday.
So to sum it up: wait it out until Sunday morning, September 6th at Laguna Beach - South Crescent Bay. That’s the one.
Rusty.
