Salt Creek Point Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. We’ve got a 16-day window for Salt Creek Point, and I’ll be honest with you – it’s a slow start. The first few days are flat and pretty much a write-off. We’re looking at a long gap with no real surf to speak of until we get towards the end of the first week, and even then, it’s touch and go. The real standout is a long way out, so keep that in mind.

The first hint of anything rideable doesn’t show up until Friday, August 7th. Even then, it’s marginal. The water temp is a balmy 75° which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – about 8° warmer, actually. That’s a proper anomaly. The swell is a tiny 2 ft from the SSW with a period of 19 seconds. That’s a long-period groundswell, so there’s some energy in the water (combined energy of 411), but it’s tiny. The wind is a cross-on 9 mph breeze, which is not ideal. It’s not really worth paddling out for.

The weekend of August 9th and 10th stays small. Swell bumps up to 3 ft to 3 ft from the SSW, period dropping to 15 seconds. The wind is still cross to cross-on, keeping things a bit messy. The combined energy is moderate (365 on the 9th), but the surf quality is still marginal. It’s a classic case of a little bit of swell but not enough to push through the wind chop.

The best bet in this whole outlook, and the only one I’d call a true standout, is shaping up for Saturday, August 15th. The swell finally pushes to 3 ft from the SSW, with a period of 16 seconds. The combined energy is strong – 616 – and the wind is offshore, light from the WSW at 6 to 9 mph. That’s clean. Salt Creek Point is a very consistent point break, exposed to the SW, and this swell direction is right in its wheelhouse. The breaks will be clean, with shape in the water. The downside is that this spot is always crowded, so you’ll have company, but for a point break with a 3 ft, long-period SSW swell and light offshore wind, it’s the best the next two weeks have to offer. It’s a solid intermediate option.

After that, it fades. Sunday, August 16th and Monday, August 17th drop back to 3 ft to 3 ft, and the wind goes cross-on again, turning it into a bit of a mess. The last few days of the forecast are back to tiny, marginal surf.

So, bottom line: the first week is a bust. The only real window is that Saturday, August 15th at Salt Creek Point. It’s a long-range call, so don’t lock it in, but it’s got the best combo of size, wind, and direction we’ve seen. Get on it if you can.
