The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happening at 204.

Right off the bat, it’s quiet. Real quiet. The water’s sitting at a very warm 75°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, so at least it’s comfortable for a float, but there’s not much to ride.

From Sunday the 2nd of August through Saturday the 8th, it’s mostly flat. Swell heights are around 1ft to 2ft, with moderate energy in the water (between 121 and 428). Periods are all over the place, but nothing that’s going to get you excited. Winds are light and onshore, keeping the surface clean but with no power.

Come Sunday the 9th of August morning, we see a 3ft SSW swell with a 15 second period and combined energy at 366. Still moderate, but it’s a step up. Winds are light onshore, so it’s clean but tiny. This is a marginal call.

The real highlight shows up on Friday the 14th of August afternoon. That’s when we get a 4ft SW swell with a 17 second period, and combined energy jumps to 755 – that’s strong. Winds are light onshore. This is the first time it feels like real surf. The break is 204, an advanced spot that’s fairly consistent and exposed to SSW swell, and the optimum direction is SSW, so this swell is hitting the right angle. It’s still marginal, but this is your best shot.

Saturday the 15th of August morning keeps that going with another 4ft SW swell, 16 second period, and strong energy at 687. Winds are light cross-onshore, so it’ll have a little ripple on it. Worth a look.

After that, it fades back to 3ft to 3ft through Monday the 17th of August. Nothing special.

If you’re picking one moment, it’s that window from Friday the 14th afternoon to Saturday the 15th morning. That’s where the size and energy are best. With a period over 15 seconds, it’s a proper groundswell, so expect longer waits between sets, but the waves that come will have some push. Crowds are listed as “sometimes,” so you might see a few others out, but it won’t be packed.

The rest of the 16 days is mostly small and slow. Hang tight.

Rusty.
