The Lowdown

G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's look at what 204 has in store for us over the next couple weeks. It's a pretty quiet picture overall. The water here is a warm 72°, which is about 5° warmer than it usually is at this time of year – that's a seriously notable warm patch.

The first surfable moment I can call out is on Sunday the 13th of September, but it's a marginal one. Wave heights are a tiny 2 ft from the SW, with a long period of 13 seconds. There's only moderate energy in the water (202). The wind is a light cross-onshore from the WSW at 6 mph, keeping the surface a bit bumpy. Not the best way to kick things off.

Monday the 14th through Friday the 18th are all poor, with onshore winds and choppy conditions. Every day shows "poor surf conditions". A couple of mornings on the 17th and 18th are noted as marginal, with swell around 2 ft from the SSW or SW, but the wind is still cross-onshore, ruining the shape.

Then we get to Saturday the 19th of September and Sunday the 20th of September. These mornings show the best wind of the whole forecast: light offshore breezes (on from the SSW and SW). The swell on the 20th is about 3 ft from the SW with a long 18-second period, and the combined energy jumps to a strong level (649). The morning of the 20th is the clear standout. It'll be clean with that offshore wind, and the long period will give those lines some push. Crowds are possible here, so you might have to share.

After that, we settle back into a long stretch of marginal to poor conditions. The wind stays cross-onshore or onshore, and the swell hangs around 3 ft to 3 ft. There's a late flicker on Sunday the 27th of September afternoon, with a 2 ft SW swell at a very long 16 seconds and a very light cross-onshore breeze. Monday the 28th morning also has a 2 ft SW swell with a 20-second period, but it's still listed as marginal. Nothing is jumping out as a must-surf session.

So, if you're looking to paddle out, make the call for the morning of Sunday the 20th of September. It's the cleanest, most energetic moment in this whole outlook. The rest is mostly a flat, choppy story.

Rusty.
