The Lowdown

Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for 204. It’s a slow start, but there’s a little something to keep an eye on later.

Right now, there’s nothing happening. The first days of the forecast are a write-off – poor conditions, messy winds, and just not worth paddling out for. You’re looking at a solid gap of nearly a week before things even start to look interesting.

The standout window is Sunday the 6th of September. That’s the one to circle. We’ve got a clean 6ft to 6ft southerly swell rolling in, with a period of 14 seconds – proper groundswell with some punch. The wind turns glassy in the morning and stays glassy into the afternoon with a light NNE breeze. That means clean, lined-up waves. The combined energy is pretty solid too (1207 to 1344), so there’ll be enough push. This is excellent for experienced surfers – the size is pushing into that 5ft+ zone, so beginners will want to sit this one out. The swell is coming from the south, which is the optimum direction for this spot (SSW). The break is fairly consistent, and though crowds can show up sometimes, with conditions this good you can expect a few others in the water. Water temp is a warm 77°, which is far warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a nice bonus.

Monday the 7th of September still has some size – around 6ft to 7ft from the south – but the wind shifts around, so the morning is a bit cross, while the afternoon cleans up with a cross-off breeze. Still good for experienced surfers, but Sunday is the pick.

After that, things drop off fast. The rest of the second week is mostly small, choppy, and onshore. A few tiny pulses of long-period southwest swell show up around the 14th and 15th, but they’re barely 1ft and the wind is messy. Not worth getting excited about.

So, in short: the first week is a dud, Sunday the 6th is your golden window, and after that it fades into small, blown-out leftovers. Make the most of that one good day.

Rusty.
