The Lowdown
Righto, let’s get into it. The next couple of weeks for 204 are gonna be a bit of a mixed bag, to be honest. We’ve got a very long period, 19-second groundswell rolling in Sunday morning, but it’s only 1 ft and coming from the SW. Not much to get excited about. The water temp is sitting at 73° – that’s a massive 5° warmer than average for this time of year, so you’ll be in for a warm one.
The first real window we see is Wednesday the 26th and Thursday the 27th. S swell starts to push in, building to about 4-5 ft with a period of 11-12 seconds. The combined energy is moderate to strong (710-748). It’s mostly cross-on with a light breeze, so conditions will be so-so, but at least it’s not howling. This is still a marginal call, but it’s the best we’ve got in the first week.
Then we hit a bit of a gap. From Friday 28th right through to Wednesday 2nd September, things drop right off again – small swell, poor conditions, and cross-on winds. That’s about a 5-day lull where you honestly wouldn’t bother paddling out. The combined energy dips below 500 for a few sessions.
Now, the real standout of the whole 16-day window looks to be around Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th September. We’ve got a long period SSW groundswell building: 20 seconds on Thursday morning, 3 ft, then pushing 4 ft on Friday morning. The combined energy ramps up hard – 794 on Thursday, jumping to 1201 on Friday morning, then hitting 1441 Friday afternoon. That’s strong energy. With light onshore or cross-on winds, and very light breeze, it’s gonna be a bit lumpy early, but the potential for a decent wave is real. The period is over 15 seconds, so those sets will have shape and power – best suited for a point or reef setup rather than a beach break that might get too walled.
The last few days (Sept 5-7) hold some usable 3-4 ft SSW swell, but winds stay cross-on or onshore, and the energy drops back down to moderate. Nothing that’ll blow your mind.
Overall, 204 has got a long warm spell of water, but the surf quality is mostly marginal. The closest you’ll get to a proper session is Friday 4th. Don’t bank on much else.
