Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about 204. This break needs a specific swell direction, so we’re looking at a solid stretch of nothing before things pick up down the line.
The water temp’s about 68°F, a touch warmer than normal for early July. Not much else to get excited about at first. The first surf worth mentioning is Sunday, July 5th: a 3ft SSW groundswell with a very long 18-second period and decent energy (450). Light offshore wind, but the surf is poor overall – small and hard to grab. Monday and Tuesday bring bits of 2ft to 4ft, mostly cross-onshore winds, and only marginal. The energy gets up Monday afternoon (681) and Tuesday morning (873), but the wind spoils the shape.
Then we get that one clean window. Saturday, July 11th: a 3ft SSW groundswell, 15-second period, and total glass in the morning – zero wind. The energy is solid (380), and the report says “expect good surf conditions.” That’s the moment. It’s still small, but for an inconsistent spot like this, a clean spell counts for everything.
After that, it goes flat. From July 13th to the 17th, we’re looking at 1ft to 2ft swells with weak energy (down to 156), cross-onshore or poor winds. Not worth it.
But hang tight for the last weekend of the forecast. Saturday, July 18th, shows a 3ft SSW swell with a 17-second period and strong energy (694), with glassy offshore wind – that’s a proper standout. And Sunday and Monday, July 19th and 20th, the energy goes up: 4ft to 5ft from the S and SSW, periods 13 to 15 seconds, with light offshore winds. The energy numbers hit 761, 823, and 999 on Monday afternoon. That’s moderate-to-strong stuff. Anything over 5ft starts pushing into expert territory, but for the experienced surfer, that’s the real deal.
So the standout call: Saturday, July 11th – clean and glassy, go get it. But the true best bet is that weekend of July 19th and 20th, with building swell and decent conditions. Circle that date, though it’s a long way off so keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
