Table - best surf conditions forecast for Rivermouth over the next 16 days.
Alright surfers, Rusty here, and I’ve been digging into the charts for Rivermouth. It’s a bit of a wild ride ahead, with some serious size showing up, but also some real windows of opportunity if you play it smart.
Let’s be honest, the start of the week is a bit of a write-off. Wednesday the 8th is flat and messy with a weak 3ft SSW swell and a cross breeze. The combined energy is a paltry 268 – not worth paddling out for. Thursday the 9th gets a whole lot bigger, but it’s too big for this spot. We’re looking at an 12ft SW swell on Thursday morning, and the data says it’s predicted to be too big for the break. That’s a pass for me.
The first real standout comes on Friday morning, July 10th. We’ve got a solid 8ft swell rolling in from the S, and the wind is light and cross-offshore, keeping things clean. The combined energy is pumping at 2602, which is some serious juice. This is excellent surf for experienced surfers only, though, because 8ft is pushing into expert territory. The period is a long 14 seconds, so this is proper groundswell bringing good shape.
Then, hold onto your board shorts, because Saturday morning, July 11th, looks like the absolute gem of this stretch. The wind is dead calm – glassy as a mirror! The swell drops a touch to a still-chunky 6ft from the S, with a 12-second period. The energy is still a healthy 1096. This is the morning to be out there, as long as you can handle the size. The crowds at Rivermouth can be an issue sometimes, but for conditions like this, it’s a price you might be willing to pay.
Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th see the swell taper off, but the wind gets a bit funky again. There’s a small window on Monday morning with a 6ft E swell and clean conditions, but the period is a short 8 seconds, so the waves will be a bit weak and fat.
Tuesday morning, July 14th, is another sneaky good call. The swell is only 5ft from the SW, but the wind is glassy and the energy is 848. It’s a much more manageable size for all abilities. The next few days are smaller again, with clean conditions but not much push.
Now, looking out to the second week, we’ve got another big pulse. Thursday afternoon, July 16th, into Friday the 17th, it gets massive again. We’re talking 10ft to 12ft swells from the SW with combined energy readings over 6800 and 7400! Once again, the data says this is predicted to be too big for Rivermouth, so unless you’re an absolute charger looking for a tow-in session, sit this one out.
After that peak, the swell drops back down through the 18th and 19th to more manageable 6ft to 6ft S swells. The wind is a bit of a mixed bag, but the Sunday morning, July 19th, looks clean with a 6ft S swell and a 12-second period. The last few days of the period fizzle out into tiny, poor surf.
Bottom line: If you’ve got the chops, be on the water at first light on Saturday, July 11th, for the most perfect conditions of the whole outlook. Friday the 10th is the other big, clean session for the experts. For everyone else, Tuesday morning the 14th and possibly the 19th offer smaller, cleaner waves.
Stay safe out there.
